Historically Maurya suddenly and swiftly stopped expansion and conquest when her ruler was shocked at what horror he caused at the end of a rather brutal battle; Suddenly converted to buddhism then spent the rest of his life trying to make his empire a wonderful place to live for his subjects only for it to collapse half a century after his death.

@@bluemountain4181 Well in the devs clash they were able to bully pretty hard Maurya, even tho it was played by a play and not an AI. Although, they had to attack him 2 at a time. So yes it's quite possible to restrain Maurya if you play yourself in Inda, but I wouldn't count too much on the AI to do it for you, except maybe if the Selucid Empire survives and steps in.

Rather than converting the religion of pops, it's better to convert their culture, as this provides a greater boost to pop happiness. Though ideally you want to do both. Plus religeous power isn't hard to come by, and so you can manually convert pops once you have a surplus of it.

Just curious, how are the Parthians in-game? By far the nation I'm looking forward the most after Carthage.
@g0lanu
@g0lanu 5 жыл бұрын
I tend to disagree with the list. It really depends on the player's preferred playstyle. For example, starting as Egypt, Seleucid, Maurya, and even Phrygia or Carthage if you have slight OCD is not going to be a good recipe for fun. You're more likely to drop the game. For these people Rome/Macedon would rank on the top 2 positions, Rome has it particularly easier for early expansion. I found it difficult even to deal with Carthage's problems - it's not that it was a too difficult starting position, it was simply tedious. I much rather deal with a mess of my own making rather than to solve the gridlock puzzle of pops and scathered territories the devs devised for us. I would even consider cheats to ameliorate the situation, you either have the stomach for it or not. Maybe it's not a newb friendly start, but an OP start is also in the N-W corner of the map because you don't meat any superpowers for some time. You slowly begin your pre-viking tribal empire and trample every other nation on the map in mid to late game with ease, showing them better and more honest ways. You have to min-max a bit for a while, but despite starting with an apparently weaker nation, your position is so safe and allows you to expand on so much territoriy in relative safety that the other super powers won't be able to compete with you when you finally get closer to their borders.

@Sugarz not that much. France's expansion is challengend by Burgundy (which starts off as strong as France.) And Austria which may allies with your clay and will directly be a neighboring cockblock after the inheritance. Also, expanding in Europe is a headache as coalitions forms very quicky. As opposed to the middle east where the Ottomans can expand without caring for AE and with only rival being the Mamluks. France is strong but it is only one of the dominant European powers not the power of the region.
@sephikong8323
@sephikong8323 5 жыл бұрын
@@meandmetoo8436 It's moreso in the early game, and it has *many* ways to expand. Seriously, a semi competent player can conquer western Europe in less than 150 years as France. I know I did it a few times and I definitely am not that good at the game, you just have to time it right and have a little rng on your side (just keep switching between England, Italy, North Africa the lowlands and Iberia (unless like me you have Castille inherit the lowlands and you then get a PU on them. It just makes things easier but it can be done even without). The Protestant reformation is just your greatest ally by dividing your enemies thus allowing you to be more aggressive in Europe (I'd suggest to only go after the lowlands after the reformation has gained a strong foothold, and once it has started you can start pushing in Italy as well since it will no longer be part of the empire and the catholics will be more divided). So I'd say that it is quite the overpowered country yes if you know at least somewhat how to play them, and unlike the Ming, they aren't an idle giant that does jackshit. Sure it's start is a little more difficult but you can snowball very very fast

@@sephikong8323 you are right, but what you just described can also be done as England, Austria (just as easily) or Aragon/Castille and Burgundy (a bit harder for those two.) Heck I did it with Naples (with a lucky PU that is.) Which is what I mean by "france has competition" The only location that compare to Europe in term of competitivity is India with a lot of big states of comparable size and smaller ones. It also has multiple religions. India and Europe are the only regions without one or two regional superpower towering over everyone else. Maybe the Malian region share this to an extent. The middle-east is just dominated by the Ottomans. But at least they have the mamluks acting as a challenge, in East Asia, Ming is just god and you do whatever you want. Even better if you get rid of the mandate

I mean its just an oppinion. The power of Rome comes from it military and scientific advancement. I bet Romes mid to late game is OP. Its just how it is. The faction the game was made about is weak in the beggining to give players an interesting challenge, because of course everyone wants to play as Rome in a game about Rome. So it makes sense mid and late game will be OP compared to anyone else, so you actually can feel like Rome when you play. Like in any strategy game ever made :) The most epic country IRL is always challenging to start with, but becomes a GOD when you start getting into the mid game.

1:42 You can colonize neighboring regions as a non-migratory tribe too. The point with being migratory is that you can settle regions that's some distance away. 2:40 Actually, they're not Latin at all. Rome was formed by Latin tribes. But they weren't. Italy was quite ethnically diverse at this point in time.

Phrygia and Seleucid empire both have events to literally fall apart coupled with huge amounts of wrong religion/culture pops + old rulers, awkward expansion, and seleucids even go to war with the #1 power in the game at the start. Why are they 2nd and 3rd strongest over something like rome or carthage? Sure they start with more pops and armies but they have WAYYYY less potential to grow quickly and more importantly safely.

@@sneedwashere the game seem to be good at replicating what happened about 160-180 years after the games starting date, where the Selucids are hit with rome defending egypt (for theyr needed food imports), succession war, rebellions and phartia striking from the east all at once. to me they seem to be the hardest major power to start as, but if you are able to stabilize you have the 2. moast pops ingame and Seleucus is a pretty awesome opening ruler.

rome really should be ranked higher. the italian peninsula is prime real estate. valuable goods, lots of pops with same religion and within the same culture group. also nobody to really challenge your position in italy if you expand fast enough. its also an extremly easy to defend homeland using a few forts and a strong navy, making it possible for you to recover even when loosing major battles. carthage is even more defensible but their early expansion is slowed heavily by them being a ruling minority. the italian military traditions are also god tier. just stack up those heavy infantry bonuses. only thing strong against heavy infantry is horse archers and elephants, both of wich are out of reach of most enemies, except carthage. untill you face the persians wich can field both you can expand endlessly in iberia, gallia and greece.
