Digimon is actually doing much better outside of JP. To the point that they’ve expanded into making a dedicated Chinese version and a dedicated Korean version. They’ve been giving exclusive artwork outside of Japan that they haven’t released in Japan at all. They’re also catching up the non-JP format to a worldwide release format. Tomorrow is the start of their new web novel about the card game (that they’re releasing translated worldwide). There’s a lot to be excited about if you’re a player outside of Japan. The Digimon issues in JP were that Bandai keeps giving them some horrible formats with tier 0 decks that made a lot of people stop playing (and then moving to other Bandai games). Everywhere else gets the ban list that fixes the competitive side. Couple that with Bandai getting very popular IPs for their other games at the same time and players just transition away there. It feels like it’s headed the way Dragon Ball did with Super continuing only outside of Japan and Bandai trying different reboots and formats in Japan.

Union Arena is seeing a big swing up because Bandai listened to community feedback and figured out how to make the boxes worth something with the serial cards and adding signatures (which we are getting from Day 1 in NA). UA is by far one of the biggest comeback stories, if not the biggest, in the last 10 years of the TCG industry. Game is pretty fun once you get past the learning curve of the rules, so curious to see how it will do here. I'm buying a case of every set 😅

The only thing I see Digimon having over One Piece is potential longevity. Digimon offers it self to have more potential content to be adapted into the TCG than One Piece does. Since one day One Piece's story will end one day and the TCG will start running dry on what they can adapt into TCG sets. Digimon is set up to where it can keep getting spinnoffs as long as Bandai keeps supporting the franchise.

@@jdx478 I do trust in Oda, and Oda has said that he has started the last story ark. So we only have a couple years before One Piece ends.
@thechangelingdm6 ай бұрын
@@ShadowEclipex Read somewhere that it's slated to end roughly around 2028 (can't confirm if Oda himself said this) but it does make sense. It may be the last arc but we still have so much to cover: Egghead (ongoing) Elbaf Marineford 2: Brother Boogaloo Return to Skypeia Mary Geoise God Valley Laughtale And that's just a guesstimate on what places we go to next, we might even have a return to WCI to put down Big Mom or recruit Katakuri. Each of these locations can stretch to half a year if needed. So don't worry about longevity, this is the biggest shonen anime ever made. Even when it ends, spin-offs will be milked until Oda's nipples turn purple.
@ShadowEclipex6 ай бұрын
@@thechangelingdm Dunno about the crew going to New Marineford, WCI, or Skypia agian since Oda doesn't like to repeat locations/plot lines also both of those locations would require the Straw Hats to go backwards to go any of those places. Would be massive and unnessecary detours. And I doubt Katakuri will join the Strawhats sadly (would be cool) but if he did he could pull a Jinbei and just show up to join the crew instead of having to get picked up. What ever the case we probably do have a couple years left of One Piece and lots of content for the TCG to pull from, but the TCG is already kinda catching up.
@thechangelingdm6 ай бұрын
@@ShadowEclipex Doesn't matter if the TCG is catching up, if the Big 3 TCGs can rehash the same planes (MTG), regions (Pokémon) and solitaire mechanics (YGO), then OPTCG can do the same. It doesn't have to strictly follow the timeline. Furthermore, out of all the TCG's Bandai has out right now, the one getting the most support , the best treatment, and the widest event coverage is One Piece. They fumbled DBS so bad they had to turn it into a Final Fantasy XIV situation and rebirth it. And no offense to Digimon (which I prefer over Pokémon) but there have been no locals in any nearby cities where I live here in the Philippines, and most game stores don't even carry the product. They could have an eon's worth of content waiting to be converted into a TCG, but if Bandai mishandles the game or maintains priority with OPTCG, then it'll unfortunately just be a pipe dream. Objectively speaking, I don't see how Digimon can outlast One Piece when both nostalgia and hype combined couldn't even bring it to even half of Pokémon's height in any form of media.

I'm not surprised at the One Piece jump in revenue. The previous year you had OP-01, 02, 03 and ST-01 through to ST-09. In the last financial year that was up to 5 booster sets (04-07 plus EB-01) which had a more than 20% price increase and whilst only 4 starter decks, 2 of them were premium at 3 times the price of a normal set, a budget deck and a normal deck which had a more than 30% price increase. Not to mention the increase in side products like boxes, playmats, sleeves and premium sets. Then you factor in an increase in unit sales. With Union Arena it was out for about a week for the previous year with only three sets, with both of these it'll be the first and second full years that really set the tone.

@@monkey39128 true it might take a little bit but the card game for one piece is way easier to play and understand/ art works are extremely better than Pokémon no comparison. One piece has a better story that ties into the card game to give it more meaning. I feel like Pokémon just on top cause of the younger group that follows on top of it just being known as “Pokémon”. I’m not a big player tho so just opinion. But the numbers could show they only reason one piece is capped at those numbers is because there isn’t any product to sell more off. Hence why I say if they printed like Pokémon they could reach it. Possibly

@@monkey39128 He said Top 2. Pokemon is just way too big in the collector market. And Pokemon has been for the long time, so I don't see One Piece will compete with Pokemon anytime soon. I’m a collector first and player second and I say print them to oblivion. You should play the game more. It really is not as linear as you think, due to all of the resource management you need to do regarding Don and counters you need to be aware of in your hand. It's a good game -- not my favorite, but there's a reason why it is selling extremely well. If IP alone was the reason a game would sell well, then Union Arena and Dragonball would be right next to OP. But they are not.

Union Arena not just "back from the death". It increase it's marketing budget and get more people aware of it existence and their world championship earlier this year solidify that Bandai takes this game seriously, especially it already have it ban and restrict list. The hard part is it's not as profitable as One Piece as Flagship card can be sell around while Union Arena Struggle Battle Card only priced 1/10 of the Flagship top 5. Lack of care of the community also burn people up, especially community in my country, Indonesia. We had to support ourselves to make sure the community not dead as more "enticing" titles comes to the game. Don't forget the Booster Pack price for One Piece and Union Arena basically the same in my country due to currency. Why play non profitable game then ? But personally speaking, ya i also love Union Arena and i wish Madoka Magica comes ASAP. But, they need to take special care for this title if they want to keep the sales high / people keep coming to play which actually they already plan one event to revitalize it
