You are right the subway in 1979 had gumbled letters on a black background. That is a new subway view.

Yeah, the comic had a modern look to it on the subway sign.

Wonder Woman Black & Gold #1 by Warren Louw (minimal trade dress edition) was my favorite cover of the year. Gorgeous cover.

Before I even watch this I feel fairly certain that I have ZERO comics that were published in 2021. So while I may like some of these, they will all be new to me. I'm still trying to figure out my Top 100 covers of all-time (that I own). So far I have #1 and #2 only 98 more to go ;)
@pop-comics2 жыл бұрын
Its hard to pick 100 for a year let alone a century haha What is your #1 and #2?

Oh wait! It just came to me. I actually got 4 different versions of Batman 108 (May 2021). Two exclusive David Choe covers, Artgerm, and the Phil Jimenez cover. So I guess I have a clear Top 4 list for 2021 ;)

Or your bottom 4 lol nice covers though.

This was one of the best Top 100's I've seen in a while if not the best. I had to subscribe! I had Wonder Woman Black And Gold 1 variant as cover of the year. Keep up the awesome work! The Ying Yang!

Great video, thanks for putting so much effort into it. most people don't mention the framework and title and how it's composed or get into all the details of why some covers are so aesthetically pleasing, like when a virgin variant doesn't look as good as one with the title like #10 on the list. It's the same with the Harley Quinn #1 Szerdy cover, it looks better with the title.

Thank you happy you enjoyed it. For me the layout and design of a cover is just as important as how good the artist is. Sometimes lesser quality artwork can make a better cover if its designed and laid out better etc. I had a lot of fun trying to decided which cover was better then another, I am still not 100% sure I picked the right ranking but it was a ton of fun.

I llike a lot of these covers but admit I'm not too crazy about all of those NEON colors!

Awesome video. Loved it. Took me a couple of sittings to get through it all, but had to finish watching it! I don't really buy too many new comics sadly (not really digging the books the Big Two are putting out) so I don't have any of the covers you highlighted and hadn't even seen them at all. I feel like an old curmudgeon but I'm not a huge fan of variant covers, specially when they feel so separate from the story of the book. That's why my favorite covers tie in to what the story of the book is, even if not a scene from inside, then the cover would have elements that allude to the story or character arc. Overall I like the selection you picked even if I think there are a lot of "poster/posing" covers that I don't connect with, that much. Of the books that I bought this year and that come to mind, I would choose the Human Targets covers from Greg Smallwood (love the look of them, so pulpy and old school looking) and I admit I am biased because I love that era of Justice League. I also really liked the variants from Jim Rugg on Red Room (I admit my hypocrisy here, having just ranted against variant covers, but the tribute covers from Rugg of classic indie covers featuring the Red Room characters are brilliant). Also, any cover by JH Williams gets my attention and his work on Echolands has been fantastic, my favorite cover was # 3 (bonus points for you Sean, they're all sideways covers!). That's my small contribution. Keep on rocking my friend. Love your videos and your channel is a highlight.

Is there a way to buy just the covers? like prints?
@pop-comics2 жыл бұрын
I think sometimes they make prints of the art. Also they publish poster books that have 24 pages that are large size dedicated to one artist each time. They are really neat. If at artist sells at comic cons etc they tend to have all their cover art available as poster prints.

Wish it was more popular, it took a lot to make this video but really enjoyed doing it. I did a 2023 version. Was a little weird I tried to do it with animated ai images too. But I also did a short.
