As suggested elsewhere you would do well to watch a video of rugby Union laws (laws not rules,) you would get many answers to your questions. But the thing is, and answers your point about tossing the ball when tackled, is that unlike NFL (which derived from rugby) it’s a game of continuous play, until an infringement occurs, where the sides can compete to get the ball and score. Although every players has a set position every player is an attacker and a defender. Looking forward to more videos.

There are a lot of videos of Rugby's Brutal Hits but fair warning a lot of them don't distinguish between really bad foul play (stuff that gets you kicked out of the game without someone replacing you) and legal but hard hits. Like if a defender hits above the shoulders or picks up a ball carrier past horizontal and brings him down on his head or neck that's usually a red card and your team plays a man down for the remainder of the game.

Not a helmet, but a soft scrum cap, which is to help protect the ears when ther player is trapped at the bottom of a ruck. "Cauliflower Ear" used to be an issue for Rugby forwards. No helmets in Rugby, the only aid to prveent concussion is a mouthguard and the recently improved rules to cut down on head clashes.

A rubgy pitch is 100 meters long which is 109 yards. There are 15 players on each side and you play for 80 minutes two 40 minute halves. In the game you can make 8 substitions. Everyone plays offense and defense. The number on your back is earned each week. Unlike alot of American sports and soccer you don't pick a number to play in. Starting line up gets 1-15 depending on the position you play. Subs get 16-23.

South Africa 🇿🇦 are the current World Champs. They won back to back World Cups in 2019 and 2023. They've won more World Cups than any other country.

The formation you asked about is a scrum. 8 players from each side form in 3 rows, 3 in the front , 4 in the middle and 1 at the back. The ball is put into the scrum between the front rows and the teams try to push each other off the ball, while moving the ball to the back of the scrum using only their feet.

After you are tackled or 1 knee touches the ground you have like 1 second to pass the ball, ore you have to put it down, that's why after they are tackled they turn to their team side so that they can protect him ore take the ball. And on most of the hits the adrenaline kicks in and you don't feelit as much in the game.

They guy wasn't wearing a helmet, it's call a scrum cap, and its just thin foam coverted in cloth. It's to protect the ears in scrums.

American football actually evolved from Rugby. Originally there were several versions of football in England. There was an attempt to standardize the rules but there was disagreement about carrying the ball Hence the split which led to Association football (soccer) and the rules governed by the rugby football union. American football, Rugby League football and Australian rules football further evolved from rugby.

For context to help understand. The wingers are comparable to wide receivers and corners (usually the fastest on the team). Centres are a mix of running backs and linebackers. 1st5, a mix of a kicker and a quaterback (controls the game, makes most of the kicks but also runs and tackles). The loose forwards are a mix of linebackers and fullback (heavy hitters and power runners). Locks are a mix of tightends and linemen. Front row are our version of linemen.

The thing you kept asking about is a "line out". Its sort of like a tip off in basketball except there are multiple people jumping for it and its a player on the sideline throwing it.

All passes in Rugby are behind, not forward, there are 15 players on each team, the game is much older than American football, South Africa is number one in the world followed by the New Zealand All Blacks, France, Canada, England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Fiji, Japan, and Australia has a dismal team I believe, and yes you are correct, there is a world cup for rugby every 4 years

Watch a couple of full games or extended highlight packages of different international games. The skill set of even the biggest boys is unbelievable. Enjoy the game, much love from New Zealand 👌👌🤘🤘🙏🙏
