Excellent list! I know that Hank Greenberg came up just short of playing 1,200 games at first base so he would not technically qualify. The reason he just came up short was because of 47 months of military service during WWII while in his prime. A special honorable mention of Hank would make a lot of sense. He is deservedly in the HOF for his baseball achievements. His service to his country makes him a true hero.

"Teddy Ballgame" may have had a credible run at Ruth's career HR total were it not for his service as a Marine aviator in both WWII AND the Korean conflict. They all served their country w/o complaint...ok, maybe Ted grumbled a bit, but maybe if he was "happy", he could never bring himself to departing from his usual surliness.

Consistent, durable, and clutch, something we had not had since Murray (DO NOT mention Glenn Davis, PLEASE). I was disappointed when he left after the 1998 season, but he wanted to be near his family. His return to the O's in 2004 was unexpected, but he expressed his desire to finish his career here, and wear the Orioles hat if he were inducted into the HOF. In 2005, it all fell apart. I was heartbroken, but we know that story. Sadly the steroid era will make everyone second guess players from that time. Thank you for the list.

Who knows, Keith might be greatest fielder of all time at the position. Grace, unfortunately, had everything but strong power. It was a crime to exclude Crime Dog for so long. Sorry, Banks's best years were at SS, and his power tailed off by the time he played 1st base. Still very good, but need to put one of the honorables in there. Gorgeous George and Terry, first drawer. My father told me that The Big Cat could really hit. Palmiero had every stat available, but oh that juicing problem. McGuire is a shame, not arrogant like Roger or Sosa, or Palmiero the liar. No Votto due to spending a lot of time DHing. Re Helton: the Coors Field has clearly dogged him. However, George Brett said the he was one of the greatest hitters of all time.McCovey = The Beast, and they didn't call him Stretch for nothing. Eddie Murray = The Package. 5 1B in MLB History Who Are Underrated and/or Forgotten: Jackie Robinson, Don Mattingly, JT Snow, Aubrey Huff, Brandon Belt

Hernandez spoiled his legacy with the way he went out with the Indians, basically chasing the last dollar when he knew he was cooked as a player.

Great list. I've seen too many 1b lists with Greenberg, Thomas, kilibtew Musial and Rose listed as first baseman, ruining the rankings. Even saw one list with Yaz as a first baseman

I think Mattingly should be in the Hall. Delgado is probably viewed as a juice guy. Mark Grace isn't in the hall because he had no power. First base is a power position. He had a nice average and a lot of hits, but he was essentially a slap hitter like the old style middle infielder.

Man...as someone who grew up in the 90s to hear all those AMAZING first basemen that were snubbed in the HOF makes me sick. Especially as a Jays fan, for Delgado to so quickly be dismissed is trash. The way the election process goes is an absolute joke. That'd be the only way Manfred could fix his legacy. By changing the requirements and eligibility for the Hall. Excellent vid as always!

I wish people would quit recognizing Rafael Palmeiro's third Gold Glove. He only won it (his third straight) because the people who vote have no clue what they are doing. In 1999, Palmeiro played just 28 games at first base. To give him the Gold Glove for that was a complete joke and every voter should have been replaced.

Can't believe you forgot Eddie Murray was in the 500 home run 3000 hit club before palmiero

Really surprised to not see Steve Garvey not even make an honorable mention. Giants bias?! 😂 just kidding, Erik. Great vid! I don't think anyone could really argue your top 15. Nothing but brilliance on that list. Thank you!

I am Bronx Yankee fan, so I say this without bias: I have never understood why Steve is not in the HOF. What did he not do? A Yankee nemesis for sure.Years ago they called a guy like this: smooth fielding hard hitting. Cheers.

Will Clark of the Giants and Rangers was better than many on this list. He was gold glove for multiple years in a row, and could hit for power and average. His performance in the 1989 post-season series against the Cubs was epic. His grand slam off Greg Maddox was the defining moment of the series. Notice how now when catchers and coaches go out to the mound the players cover their mouths with their gloves so that others can't read their lips? That all started with Will Clark reading Maddox's lips saying what pitch he was going to throw to Clark, who then parked the ball in the right field bleachers.

I was actually at Tropicana field and something told me to move to another seat, since these drunks were out of control. I didn't and that seat was where he put wood on the last ball he hit because the next day he tested our it was led out that the juice was in his system. A shame, as well as his congressional testimony. Hard to say how great he was without them. I certainly would put him very high up. That said, no HOF for him, IMO, even if he was the best. If Gehrig was a juicer than he would not get in either. Look at Bonds.

Gehrig’s stats were ridiculous year after year. Until ALS cut his career short.
