Hi, watching this in late November. We're a small marketing content studio and currently retooling our site for stock media. I want to basically have a curated agency like Stocksy; pay a minimum of 50% royalties, exclusivity for images only. I would keep the number of contributors small and deal with each of them on more of a personal basis. And actually promote the photographers themselves as a selling point, with things like behind-the scenes look at the photo session and interviews. And something that I haven't seen so far-fee-plus-royalties for selected projects. I believe artists should get paid for their work and should have some basic security in their lives.

Great breakdown. I would also say that a major barrier for many photographers using Adobe is because they don't accept editorial images (apart from illustrative editorial once you've sold enough images to qualify).

The last time I was really taking photography seriously, I had to load film into the camera, for stock photo's it was Kodachrome 25 or 64. I am finding the technical side a little challenging, but with digital it is so easy to do so much more.

Shutterstock always annoys me with similar reasons for rejection, even though the poses and gestures of the model are different, but it's still the same concept. I was forced to make a photo collage by combining several photos, for one collage I can fill five to ten photos, so photos can be accepted even though the portfolio looks not good.

A very informative and well explained video. I would be nice if you could put together another such video taking into account how the various stock agencies are responding to the Corona virus pandemic and the relative impact the latter has had on the agencies. Shutterstock has been ruthless in respect to the royalties paid to contributors. Finally, Shutterstock is, and here I totally agree with you, is inconsistent when it comes to it's reviewers assessment of submitted images. Confusing at the very least! Thank you very much.

Shutterstock is nearly impossible to deal with. I had a photo rejected for not having a model release, but it was an editorial photo. Shutterstock prohibits releases with editorial photos. Another was rejected for the subject being out of focus. The camera was on a tripod, manually focused under magnification, and the mirror was locked up. I was tack sharp. After a number of these issues I quit Shutterstock. Personally, I sell more with Alamy, but payout is really slow.

Hi Pevidex, as you can see from the title, Shutterstock never was my favorite agency, I much prefer Adobe Stock and that was the case before the change of royalties on June 1st! I'm waiting for the end of June before creating a follow up on my SS earnings and I'll post about it on the channel.

Obvious Shutterstock super hit and miss. Stuff Adobe accepted, but not Shutterstock. Shutter was saying I had a logo as reason for rejection... It was a picture of the Desert in Peru!

@@IndiaVisuals early 2000s is far, far different to now. Images prices fetched back then were higher, but websites costs were huge to establish, run and maintain. It's never easy either way. Masterfile hit the wall a while back. Corbis got bought out and shut down. That really hit me, and Chuck O'Rear, hard.

you have not used the word "editorial" even once in your video which is a mistake. I make more than 70% of my sales in editorial and ss and istock are the only two from your list that offer that option.
