I was born and raised on Boulton Avenue at the end of Allen Ave. from 1937 until I moved to Scarborough, went to Queen Alexandra School in the 40s and was married in the 50s, always loved the area, we had a old house joined to three other houses, no closets no real kitchen but I remember what was built in, sure miss my house...

Keep the Old Harbour Commission Building on the waterfront. And of course the very old Bank of Montreal building at the corner of Yonge and Front Sts. This building is also pictured on the back of some very old banknotes from the 1930's. Many other MANY other VERY historical buildings to choose from worthy of mention, but these 2 ... I particularly had to mention. LOVE Toronto historical information, photos and videos. I am also Toronto born 72 years ago, so I have also seen many changes from my growing up years to now. Lots of good memories in TO ... AND REMEMBERING ... some of those very old streetcars I used to ride on too ... AND I'm glad the streetcars overall did NOT make way to be replaced by buses .... less air pollution and is indeed a unique feature in the largest City in Canada, making it quite different then all other Cities, and historical too ... WITH streetcars as an integral part of public transit . ciao

Favourite old Toronto building .... Old City Hall .... it is magnificent, the details just go on and on and on as you walk around the building, you always discover new things. And they ALMOST pulled it down when planning Eaton Centre .... yikes thank heavens the citizens at the time protested and saved it. Also University College at U of T, in a class by itself.

Years ago when at university I worked as a part-time guide at the Grange when it was a museum. Still have fond memories of it thought its surroundings today are so different.

One of the oldest in North York, Dempsey Brothers hardware store, was on that corner, still standing a few blocks away. Also Gibson house and Sheppard house nearby.

Great video! As a group, many old buildings in the east end from Church to the Don River are excellent. Old shops on King Street, mansions on Jarvis, and houses on Bright St. come to mind.

Please explain how we went from primitive log cabins to Osgoode Hall in less than 20 years in 1832. What leap in innovation, skilled labour, logistics, quarries, bricks... and a population in Toronto under 10,000 people in 1834. Why would they need such a grand building?
@bobbbxxx
@bobbbxxx 2 жыл бұрын
Actually, 1793 to 1832 was more like 40 years, not less than 20. Osgoode represented the Upper Canada Law Society, so was quite prestigious. I believe one of the wings is the original, and the rest was added.

had a few picks/drops at the Toronto Port building while a courier in the 90s (before everything started going up around it). It had a good view of the lake from up there. Also, 8 King E - had one of the last elevators with an Operator in it (nice elderly lady as I seem to recall)

Love your videos. I am from Belleville Ontario and at the age 10 my father brought me to Toronto and we both witnessed the moving of the Campbell house. I was quite young, but remember crews turning street lamp/lights out of the way for the oversized home to be transported. At 10 years old, my memory was limited but kind of remember an accident associated with it's moving, when as I remember it, a cable snapped and either killed or seriously maimed one of the moving workers. Maybe you can help me with my memory of this...Did this happen as I remember?

I would like to see the CN tower replaced and heres why. No one should mind this post hopefully; however some would agree the philosophy within this post is in relation to this video as well. It would be nice to see the CN tower replaced. With something that makes more sense to suit the current real estate prices. When if ever they build a super structure that can fit more spaces inside to replace the old one. Who knows. Toronto would become the 3rd largest city! The types of things they do know in places like China and Dubai with modern archecture would happily shock most people if we where to see something similar here. Because basically the CN tower is a dinosaur. That still looks nice in ways. But just not practical enough to take the city of Toronto to the next level with ultra modernization. When we fail to keep infrastructure modern. For whatever reasons. We unintentionally create a stagnant economy.

What has been allowed to happen at forgotten 'Black Creek Pioneer Village' in the last 15 years is a crime. The destruction of Old-Stock heritage through deliberate neglect the act of vandalism. All the buildings there were friendly old ghosts in a rare enviroment.

Save every single historic old building that is left. Stop building these ugly sardine cans they call condos. Our skyline has made for an UGLY, CONGESTED, CLAUSTROPHOBIC Toronto with lost character, loss of sunshine and angry people. I miss "Toronto the good" that I loved so much.

With so much of old Toronto being destroyed by rampant capitalism (in real estate), it's difficult to single out any particular building. I have grave concerns about whole neighbourhoods being demolished, scraped bare of the original beautiful old houses, the huge trees, the gardens, and any unique character that once was, only to be replaced by out-of-scale glass skyscrapers. Without our consent we will have our quiet, tree-lined streets replaced by barren, windswept asphalt and concrete thoroughfares, creating winds so powerful they will knock you down. The latest sacrifice to the god Capitalism is the beautiful, quiet neighbourhood bound by Sherbourne and Jarvis, Isabella and Bloor. In that small niche there are at least FIVE skyscrapers planned that will completely erase everything that was once a quiet tree-lined enclave. Nobody cares. I heard that one of the front doors would be saved and tacked on the front of one of those behemoths. Nice. ..
