Wow. Thank You, Dave. That is a surprise... to see a spike in website visits - and just figured out where is it from:) I really feel honoured to be mentioned on the list:) And thank You all for kind comments about Vespera.

I don't know, Laco with a Miyota 8000 series movement for over $500? That seems like a blatant money grab to me.
@Sneka97Күн бұрын
Very much agree. At most it should be $400 and that's stretching it

That's my impression of Laco as well. They're not exactly bad watches, but I reckon that any random Asian brand would give you twice the specs for half the price.
@kovacdavidКүн бұрын
It's more expensive compared to Chinese or some micro brands, but the resell value is probably going to hold better.

The Nadir reminds me of small vintage dive watches of the 1960s, some of which were based on manual wind Swiss EB8800 series movements. Hard to find a dual crown internal bezel watch near that price.

I have the same AD8 in bronze and it is one of my favourite watches, incredible attention to detail and a joy to look at. Wise offer really great value for money in my opinion and they have a recognizable design on every watch. The only thing I am not a big fan of are some of the names like Hitman or Flyboy...

I think the reason the Nadir didn't get the enthusiasm you were hoping for, was exactly the reason you stated: it can't make up its mind what it is.
@NadirWatchesКүн бұрын
That's an interesting comment. I encourage You to read the story behind the brand and the model design. If it mixes a few genres... so be it :) It is a microbrand, that has the freedom to mix a little:) I strongly believe that the coming GMT model will improve things on the enthusiasm side;)

I own 2/5 of this list. I wholeheartedly agree about no date watches. The Henry Archer Nordsø is my pick for most underrated.

Something about the Nordso reminds me of an Orient Star, maybe the handset. Anyway, not a bad thing at all. Lacos are under-specced (sp?) for the price. The bronze AD8 is great looking, and the whole brand is still totally under-appreciated. The Nadir is interesting. Not my style, but definitely a unique piece, good specs, and a 12hr bezel is always a welcome thing.

We check out the first few seconds on the overview page and then decide to click. Maybe you can come up with an intro format that lets us know you think a watch is special because... whatever, without doing it all the time of course. BTW: The Nadir reminds me of my Seiko Prospex SRPA71 "Land".

Generally like under stated watches, but I have a bronze diver and a gold Alpinist which are stunning. Great deals too, not as much in demand, and they are a fantastic balance to the dozen other stainless steel watches I have. Bronze is under rated.

I'm very disappointed with my Laco 39mm. I don't see what if anything on this version reflects German quality. It has the base non hacking non automatic Miyota movement. I had to exchange mine after 3 weeks when the setting function broke.

Field watches and flygers might be on this list for a reason. Personally I have an aversion to them. Stemming from being issued crap versions while serving. The autos were never serviced, were tiny, lost time like crazy, and fogged up in spring shower, knocked about and transfered between thousands of hand. Needed to hack cos you had to reset them daily. The quartz barely better til they got wet. You'd never even consider wearing them anywhere but in the bush on operations or manouvres. We all used our own G-Shocks or generally Seiko or Citizen divers. Heaven forbid we lost the wee turds and had to pay the crown for the privilege Eventually we got issued G-Shocks that we would all wear and want to keep. Saying that the Nadir is an intriguing novelty. Though its not really of either ex military format

Also, the history of flieger watches. For how often we hear that "the history" and "the provenance" of a brand is so important, well I mean, the flieger watches don't have the cleanest history, lol. I am not going to avoid a watch because of its history or national origin usually, but then again, I'm also not going to overpay for a watch for those same reasons!
@mountman5386Күн бұрын
The Wise watch is beautiful but both a touch too large for me and sold out. The Laco seems to be a bargain for a German made pilots watch but for affordable collectors a standard Laco with some AR (as per Jodi's review) or an Ali Express version probably win out. US$500 is a lot of money or many of us, more so since their dollar is so strong. The others are unusual designs that perhaps as the views demonstrate, have a limited appeal, if much loved by those to whom they do appeal.

For me are 3 important aspects for a perfect watch, 1st: the display must show all time, day, date, hour, minute, secons, 2nd- materials quality, 3rd- the display to not be printed, but for symbols like numbers or the markers to be like 3d displayed, this will make the watch looks stunning, that's why I like the edifice watches alot also aside this ill mention another important aspect, is the autonomy like: solar charging, long life battery, or even automatic with more than 3 days of autonomy) So, all this being said, only watch that I like, somehow here is nadir watch, but still lack the day complication, and 3d numbers, they are just printed. I just subscribed to you're Chanel like 3 days ago, I thing, that you're doing a good job, be happy

I liked the Nordso dial, but the bezel is a bit of a head-scratcher. With only geometric markers, what purpose does it serve? I know tool watches have become dress watches, but they should still be functioning tool watches. Add to that no GMT, and no date and it is a time only tool watch that could be replaced by a smaller, thinner and more elegant dress watch. I really liked the Wise watch, but alas, again no date and no GMT. At least give us a date. The Laco? Too simplistic to be interesting, and watches need to be interesting. That silver stripe on the Nadir is an eyesore and interferes with reading the time. Other than that, I like it, but I wonder if the company understands that the word Nadir has negative connotations in English? The Vario is a good example of a no nonsense timepiece. I like it, but I really want a date, just because it is a hang-up with me. Maybe others strongly disagree.

Eh, I think the more tool watches can move away from the functionality the more it opens up cool designs. That's just me. Ultimately they are for wearing and how they look when they're worn. If you really need a tool, get a Proplof

Modern Fleiger or military dial watches are useless. They are boring. When I first started collecting I got a Fleiger (wore it once) and it was just boring. As for military watches, if your going vintage I think they are cool but a modern military watch is just silly.
