Actually, he loves being compared to Shane MacGowen. It's an honor. But most of you making comments were not alive to remember 'the difficult' times. They ended in '97. About the time most stopped watching the news, your parents stopped raising you to be good people, and history was an elective.

This is only a guess based on the lyrics, but I do believe it about why some (not all) young men joined the ranks of the IRA. I think that this song is suppose to be told from the view of an Irish rebel that is on trial for his crimes. This is specifically because of the lines about the cops & lawyers and being another Martyr that will sit in jail or be executed. The individual then goes into reflection of facing his doom and reasoning why he chose that path. With the lines "These are my reasons / It's not so / It's not indoctrination" the speaker is basically saying that he chose to fight not because of political training, as the word "indoctrination" is used normally for political activities, but instead for something else - the lost of other rebels and family members, which goes back to the lines "Death convinced my cousins to go / My mother still wears black and cries". This is also why there is the long list of list of Irish mothers names as that they wear black for mourning at the the end which are suppose to be his family, friends, neighbors, follow rebels, etc. Lyrics (I picked up from a Google search) Stand there alone As the cops and the lawyers debate And now they chop me to pieces Or shoot me Captain Merill did quite well I was a bastard, I'd say Another Martyr Another story To be seen I remember, I was a child now I know And I knew what was best for my time... here... Now, it's not how I'd envisioned When I made my decision Now, I pull all my strength from my fear Death convinced my cousins to go My mother still wears black and cries Our eyes broken all its ties And I'm waiting to hear the laugh that burns in their eyes No one will ever know, No one will ever see, No one could ever say That anyone ever knew me No one will ever know, No one will ever see, No one could ever say That anyone ever knew me These are my reasons It's not so It's not indoctrination No, these are my reasons These are my reasons No, it's not damnation Not indoctrinations, My mother wears black, Ms. Collin wears black Ms. Hunt wears black Ms. Shay wears black Ms. Bolley wears black Ms. McGuinness wears black Ms. McGuire wears black Ms. Kurt wears black Ms. Malone wears black Ms. McKenny wears black Ms. Brennan wears black Ms. Obrient wears black Ms. O'Shay wears black Ms. Prestler wears black Ms. Darby wears black Ms. Collins wears black Ms. Casey wears black Ms. Henderson wears black Ms. Balley wears black Ms. Manglin wears black..
