The toughest climb in the world? The Taiwan KOM Challenge

Join us as we climb what some describe as the 'holy grail' of cycling in Asia - the Taiwan KOM. This 90km, 3300m ride is the highest pass in Taiwan that you can cycle and is a challenge to say the least. Put it on your bucket list folks.

Went to Taiwan this year, unfortunately I had strained my ankle a week before and couldn't ride at all, but took the chance to travel around the island and visit the east coast and Taroko Gorge. Amazing country, amazing cycling, amazing people. Would love to come back again and ride!!!

That was so inspiring. Sharon Kicked ass! Way to go! I have been to Taiwan many times. Lived there and hiked & biked all over...so beautiful. But i never did KOM. That looked absolutely brutal. But this video made me want to go back and give it a go. 👍🏼

I've ridden this twice and the video does not convey how difficult this climb is, as hard as a semi pro says it is, it's even harder ... btw I would do this again in a heart beat..incredible place.

Could have used a little more on-road footage but I understand resources were limited. Still it was an enjoyable watch: real people who love riding and are not fixated on being first to the top - but nevertheless are riding with style and power and class. Plus the views of mountainous Taiwan were spectacular. Who knew?

Unfortunately not. It looked like a great descent aside from the traffic. The KOM organisers shuttle the participants down the hill as I'm guessing they don't want to be liable.

For sure not the toughest. Just an example I personally know: Veleta in Sierra Nevada, with 2557 meters altitude change in just 44.3 km has a much higher average inclination.

Didn't mean to sound like a dick, but what I can say is that I just bought a 32 cassette and to be able to spin up the steep bits really works for me! Then again I probably ain't as strong as the dude who climbed this incredible climb so what do I know :)

But it is really stupid to climb with 25 anyway... I got a 2x10 34x36 in one bike, and 3x11 30x29 in the other. Planning to change the first for a triple and get 24t so I can run a close ratio cassette, as Athena triple doesn't allow smaller than 30...
