It's so surreal. Vilnius looks so different yet the same. Seeing everyday life. Hearing soviet Lithuania feels so weird today...

My parents and grandparents lived during the USSR, however they were born in another part of Lithuania. Still interesting though
@travelvideos4 ай бұрын
My grandma was too chicken to receive letters from abroad. So, we lost any contact with relatives. They also forgot the language (how that's even possible?) and started to write in English. So, after USSR collapsed I went to travel and met them by accident, when started to talk with a random person. The World is too small.

Did Lithuanian (and other nations) really return from living abroad to live in Lithuania SSR? Have to say, the Krushcheva apparments are a good design (don't know how robust or well built they were) but in terms of proportion and urban planning they're better than most of what goes up today, certainly in the UK.
@viliussmproductions6 ай бұрын
In terms of Urban planning, absolutely. I would criticize some of the roads, but that's entirely usual for the 60's. In terms of robustness and quality otherwise - absolutely not. Mass produced, built on the fast and on the cheap to leave room in the budget for the ridiculous military expenses and monuments for Lenin. I must compliment the amount of greenery. It may not show up as much in footage from 1968 as the districts were just being built, but the inner yards of these commieblocks grew to be lush places that can really be lovely. As for people returning to live from abroad to Lithuania in the SSR? I personally haven't heard of such cases. I've heard a few of people leaving, but that was difficult, too. There really was an Iron Curtain over Eastern Europe.
