His biggest problem? You showed it right at the beginning. All of those clips of him in an Auburn shirt yelling at the refs? Yeah, that was him...as a DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR!!!! You don't get to yell at the officials when you're an ASSISTANT COACH!!!! Head coaches get leeway from the refs. Assistant coaches do not! He's an egomaniac with a bad temper. He might be a heck of a recruiter and may HAVE BEEN a heck of a DC, but he lacks leadership skills. He's most likely to be one of those coaches that is an excellent DC (most of the time) but just doesn't cut it as an HC. And if he doesn't start to figure out how to control his emotions during the game, he's not going to last very long in any position.

This is the peter principle at work. Hey, no shame in being good at what your good at even if it's not what you think you should be good at. This guy is a good DC, but not a HC. He needs to know that being DC is his strength and that he's not gifted to be a HC. No shame at all in that. Most D-1 football coaches are not head coaching material in D-1 college football. You see the peter principle play itself out in the business world all the time. The point is that all of us should try to excel at what we are good at and not try to be good at something we were not meant to be good at.

Will Muschamp never knew how to run an offense. There's been countless OCs under him saying he'd get his hands on the offense and it just didn't work. That's apparent this year. From 2016 to 2020, we had 3 OCs and we always ran run-run-pass-punt, pass-run-run-punt, run-pass-pass-punt, or pass-pass-run-punt. You cannot tell me that he didn't have a hand in calling offensive plays when we had 3 different OCs calling the same plays.

We loved him here at Texas. He's a heck of a DC. His fiery demeanor worked as a DC. I'm sure you Florida and SC people would know better but it didn't seem to work there. When he was DC at Texas, he brought an edge to the team that helped us go 25-2 between 2008-2009. Having Colt McCoy helped. But that fiery edge Muschamp brought was balanced out by a seasoned HC in Mack Brown. Mack was clearly in charge so Muschamp could go psycho to his hearts content. But when you're the head coach, you have to be more in control and that's just not Muschamp.

I did not like Will Muschamp from the first game I saw him coach with the Gators. And then the embarrassing loss to Georgia Southern was the last straw for me and that was early in his tenure. He tried to blame that loss on not preparing properly to defend the triple option. We all said ,"but I thought he's a defensive minded guy. How can that be?" I never liked him and I was glad he was gone. I might have not said that had I known who our next coach would be, the disastrous Jim Mcelwaine. I'm really excited to have an Urban Myer alum, Dan Mullen, now coaching us. But no, I never liked Will Mischamp. #GoGators
@gordongekko51594 жыл бұрын
After the 2014 season, Jeremy Fool-ey could have eased the pain of us Gators by hiring Dan Mullen as MusDumps replacement. But no, he goes all the way to Colorado to find a Butter teeth coach named McElwain. If Mullen was hired for the 2015 season, he would have inherited Will Grier(without the roids or whatever it was he bought "off the counter") and a bad ass defense. We all saw how Will Grier and Treon Harris were poorly coached by Butter McElwain and Doug Nussmeier. About the only thing Butters and Nuss did right was find a well ignored QB in Texas named Kyle Trask. I guess having Dan Mullen is better late than never. I also hear the Miami fans haven't forgiven Donna Shalalalalalalalala for whiffing out on hiring Dan Mullen back in 2014, if I remember correctly.

He's a decent recruiter, very nice guy, love him as a person, extraordinary defensive coordinator but cannot recruit or use offensive players for squat, and clearly cant lead and inspire teams to want to win, most likely bc he's horrible at offense. He needs to stick to defense. Hes pretty damn good at it. As a South Carolina fan, it's night and day difference in terms of the energy and morale of the Gamecocks from Muschamp to Beamer, although essentially being the exact same team. And you can see the aftermath of Muschamp in the 2021 season- Killer defense, absolutely no offense. When you have to start 4 different QBs all year to try and get something going, youve got a serious problem.
@the1magageneral323 Жыл бұрын
The Florida QBs under Mushchamp were average, the running backs near elite The OL could block, WR could not catch the deep ball and Defense was good just could not beat Bama. I think if they changed the offense from a pro style offense and had a more disciplined team and QB the results would been different. All I remember during the time was many QB changes and undisciplined offenses even after Mushchamp at Florida. I think that 2011 squad might have been better with the pistol or option offense since they like to run the ball more and the OL was another level.

I am a big fan of South Carolina and I have stuck by Muschamp since he has been at usc since the beginning when everyone else did not like him, but it was time to fire him. I saw that I was wrong and if a coach can’t a least be ranked top 25 every year with a top 15 recruiting class every year he is a bad coach.

Lots of great defensive coaches simply can't be good head coaches. Buddy ryan, Ray Rhoades, Kirby Smart, Dan Quinn, Tony Dungy, on and on...

Huge Gator Fan. It seemed Muschamp was hired at Florida to clean up the mess (thugs) Urban recruited. South Carolina hired him to recruit talent after Spurrier resigned. The Gators and the Gamecocks were playing as if Ray Goff was coaching them. Both teams had strong defenses and boring offenses. I knew when Kirby Smart hired him at UGA they would defeat Bama and become National Champs. Will can coach defense and recruit!

Is that Kirby Smart third from the bottom left at 1:36?

With any kind of investment portfolio I would guess he's sitting on a minimum of 20-30 million with SC on the hook to pay him an additional $12 million. He seems to fail upward.

Great DC. He’s like many of Saban’s defensive assistants. They all share the mindset that great defense wins Championships. They don’t want an aggressive, risk taking offense.to ruin their season.

USC's in-state rival is a perennial national championship contender and USC has average to below average facilities and tradition and fans just go to games to get drunk. Its a tough gig for anyone.

As a Gamecocks fan I wasn't thrilled with the hire but I was willing to see what he could do. Now I know. Very disappointing.

Great defensive coach. Lincoln Riley would be a fool not to go after him to be the DC at Oklahoma...

not sure the word tragic should be employed here. am sure Will is disappointed but he is grounded, honest and his life will continue positively.

I’m late to the party, but I honestly remember telling a friend that he would bring my beloved Gators to “several national titles.” Whoops. I’d like to retract that one, your honor.

He won at Georgia last season! and promptly went 4-8 while eSECpn continued to praise Georgia and continually consider them top 5 when they clearly arent............

Time will tell on Muschamp. When he was a Head Coach he was too defensive minded, he didn't put in enough care for his offense. When he had his one year stint with Auburn as a DC his defense was ranked very low in the conference. He may have been at the top of his field at one point, but it seems, to a degree, the game has passed him by, especially in the offense heavy SEC. Perhaps he should steer clear of the SEC and look elsewhere.

South Carolina definitely needs to up there recruiting game, I do see why it’s hard for them, they aren’t exactly talented enough as a state for in state recruiting to work like UNC is doing right now, but they aren’t good enough as a program to draw big names from other states, not to mention, they also run their recruits off, I have 2 friends and teammates that seemed like they were both definitely going to South Carolina together, but one of them told me a few months ago that South Carolina basically cut him off and stopped recruiting him even tho he was a 4 star

Just because someone is a great coordinator doesn't mean they'll be a great coach. Way too much pressure is put on great coordinators that try to be coaches. Going from leading the defense to leading the whole team is a very difficult.

i’m a gator fan, i think he’s a good defensive mind but i’m not sure if he knows what he’s doing on offense. i think we should hire him as defensive coordinator and see where that goes.

I'm a Florida fan. My homeboy is a Gamecock fan. I told him... it was a bad hire. I didnt like him when Florida hired him. He wasn't an offensive minded coach and thats what Florida is about. Muschamp can recruit talent except QB. Also HE CAN NOT COACH THOSE TALENT. He can not hire assistant coaches. He's not a great HC. If some lower tier school like Group 5 or FCS hire him..... good but Power 5. Nope./

Love this guy defensively if he could get someone like sark as a offensive coordinator he really could win a chip. I really do think that’s why coach o won with LSU he had joe Brady and he is a great defensive coach.

Granted he did bring in some of the best talent the university of South Carolina has seen (i.e Javon Kinlaw, Jaycee Horn, Deebo Samuel, Skai Moore, Bryan Edwards) he has to be the worst at the actual coaching part. Constantly lets the defense get shredded apart without making changes, has a qb battle just to turn around and rename the starting qb who is doing less than a true freshman was last year, brought in a oc that is deciding to have half of the playbook be I-form or other 21/22 personnel sets in 2020. And he took our best corner and just stuck him in the slot vs ole miss when they don’t have an amazing big body receiver that he match well against. He shouldn’t have been in the slot guarding Elijah Moore, and the worst part was when ever Elijah beat them deep, it wasn’t even Jaycee Horns fault because they were running a weird ass cover 3 that looked more like cover 1 zone.

I’m a lifelong Gamecock fan and I really love Muschamp as a man. He’s an awesome recruiter, he’s a very strong mentor to his players and he’s a hell of a nice guy. I would love to keep him as a defensive coordinator and recruiter. I wish him all the best. He deserves it.

Some guys are just not meant to be head coaches. He will once again be a defensive coordinator for somebody.

I hated to see Will Muschamp get fired from both Florida and South Carolina. He had his ups and downs at Florida and South Carolina but he was an okay head coach but couldn't have success at Florida and South Carolina!!!
@jamescrabb87663 жыл бұрын
It's really very simple. He's good at coaching a defense but not a good head coach. There is a difference in being the CEO and being a division manager, and Muschamp is the perfect example of someone rising above their skill level.
