Simple answer as to why it’s dead: They failed because they didn’t try and they showed they did not care about the players. They cared more about getting money without trying. The amount of opportunities that this online part of the game had is insane to me that it didn’t reach a modicum of its potential. The story version was the best part easily and one of if not the best game of all time. It’s really sad to me because I had imagination full of things you could do in a red dead online version of this game and when it came out everyone was disappointed

Free roam in the story mode was an infinitely better experience than online and that's just sad. Largely due to there being no reason to really play with other people. So people would just resort to the low hanging fruit of just shooting everyone and everything they could.

I remember first playing RDR Online when it first came out and left it for ages - I think remembering it being a total grindfest, remembering shooting herons out of the sky around Saint Denis to sell for a few cents each. I returned to it today and honestly there isn’t anything really new I found. It had so much potential, but I feel like the game didn’t have the particular magic that GTAO had. Even coming off something that isn’t that important - story. In GTAO, you’re arriving into a Los Santos, full of opportunities, in “magical” California/LA, to become a kingpin, working contracts, illicit businesses, takeovers etc. In RDRO, you are broken out of prison or something?? Sadly, yeah, RDRO definitely was neglected by R* and well, lead to many other people neglecting it - especially a broader fan base. From a business perspective, definitely the slow pace, detailed world could not and would not nearly receive as much attention from the younger audience that lines R*’s pockets. When given the choice between A horse that still takes a god awful amount of time to get somewhere compared to playing around with a flying bike that zips you around the map in less than several minutes - the latter appeals more. It is entertainment, that we pay for, after all. On top of that, I mean GTA is much more prevalent in popular culture - Purple/Green Alien wars, Lamar Roasting Franklin - still market out this decade old game. They literally have Dre. I must have close to 100 days or so in the story - honestly probably the best game of all time for me and a generation defining title for gaming. Honestly, quite a sad waste that RDRO and RDR2 was - I’m pretty sure there would of been some plans or ideas/ work done by developers for single player DLC and well made multiplayer expansions that likely ultimately were axed.

I stuck with RDO from day 1 up until the beginning of 2022 and I can say the reason you get killed so much is because killing others is the most engaging thing to do which is so sad to say. I don’t even like killing people in game and I did to stay entertained, even changed my name to A Griefer lol.

I'm not a gamer as such, my gaming experiences stretching to the total of RDR2, GTA V and the Tomb Raider Survivor trilogy, and I've literally only just completed RDR2 a few days ago (OMG what a game!!!) and ventured into the online world, I've done ok, I've been sniped a couple of times, but that was mostly my fault, I hear gunshots and I get curious and try to spectate, the cat usually gets killed, my fault. Most people seem to be friendly at best and cautious at worst, I've only done a few missions and won my first group challenge thingy today (first try at one as well), anyhoo, just wanted to say so far I've enjoyed it, it does seem quiet, but I like that, it'll be a shame if they kill it, and from what you say it's not gonna be long in coming.

love that you guys do these RDR2/RDO clips and boy I have a lot to say as usual: 1st = the irony of you guys saying how RDO people just want to shoot everyone all while playing clips of you shooting everyone in sight in campaign (ha ha I am honestly chuckling here, this is all light-hearted). 09:36 you are shooting non enemy NPCs, dudes going about their business. This does zilch for Johns growth or the story. At this point you dont need their $ nor horses etc. Just belligerence. If you are ok to play this way then why would you expect a % on online players to not treat that environment the same way? The problem starts w GTA. Ive never played it as it started off with things i am NOT into: present-day crimes, murder, raping killing police...never been my thing. Take those people that come from that environment and place them in the old west and theyre like a milk bucket under a bull or pork chops at a kosher wedding. Coming from spaces where you drive 200mph (Im guessing) and placing them with 30 mph horses with vast expanse of nature and they dont know what to do. You have people like me, from out west (Sonoran Desert, the model for the Cholla Springs area) and I play to explore the world! Starting in Oct 2018 I found myself loving exploring the world vs motoring through yellow missions. When I play RDO I can simply go to regions to enjoy their beauty and not be in the 2022 world. I love that Just FYI I am level 400+ w 1500 GB and $100k. Every role is maxed and I own every weapon and blah blah blah..I think I may have dumped $5-10 back in the Beta days but stayed consist and built things up. The daily challenges are by far the easiest way to get GB. Do the collector and BH roles and you cant build it up quickly. Before tehy nerfed daily challenges at start of 2020 Id gring 9 GB every day just doing dailies bc there was an unlimited streak. As far as meeting people: its easier than you are letting on here. I have a boat load of connections on my XboxLive account from posses Ive joined or people that have jumped into mine. and yeah when I sign on now I get several posse invites as people see a "high level" character and I hope Im something amazing ha ha ha What ive noticed: when I meet players that are 30+ they are down to spend time hunting and fishing, exploring the area and map out plans. under 30 its VERY common for my posse to only do infighting at all times. I will find level 20-40 people that ask me how to level up and when I set up trader deliveries, moonshine jobs or lead them to collectibles they revert back to shooting each other-which ONLY wastes bullets. No XP, no achievements; no $. And its what they choose to do. RDO is set up to be slower paced, take your time and earn your wares. Younger generations want it all right now and view the old west as only a place of shoot-shoot. This, my friends, is the largest reason for RDO's decline.
