Roseann Quinn was a young, single school teacher working at St. Joseph’s School for the Deaf and pursuing a graduate degree that would help her advance her career. She was independent and had a bright future. Then on January 2, 1973, she was brutally murdered in her New York apartment by a man she met at a neighborhood bar. Her death would become a talking point for those against the Woman’s Liberation Movement-citing her "high-risk" lifestyle as the catalyst for her own demise. Of course, we know that the only one to blame here is the vicious killer himself, and Roseann Quinn was merely a symbol for his rage.

I recently discovered your channel. I can’t wait to listen to more of your podcasts. I grew up in the 70/80’s and when I was in high school, my mother made me watch Looking for Mr. Goodbar with her. I think she was trying to discourage me from picking up men in bars. I have since watched it a few times as well as read the book and also seen several documentaries about Roseanne Quinn. One thing that you left out was that John was bisexual, and the man that he was staying with in New York who turned him in, Geary Guest, was his lover and was “keeping” him.

This is the first time I've listened to a poscast...ik...crazy. It was very good. I read the book over 12 years ago then researched it, so I'm very familiar with it. Ty. Still an extremely interesting story.

I have never been one to blame the victim but bringing strangers home habitually is playing Russian Roulette. RIP Roseanne

Comments like this are exactly why men think it's okay to hurt and/or murder "promiscuous" women. I wonder if you'd feel the same way if this happened to someone you know and love. This was someone's daughter, someone's friend, and someone's mentor... shame on you.

Well, we know she didn't deserve this horrific tragedy that befell her, but I agree that she invited a very high risk situation into her life. Russian roulette is a good way to put it.

Quit worrying about what people think or say about you, they are going to regardless of what you do or don't do. And for those that judge, they will have to answer to that when their time comes. Besides, remember, if someone is talking about you behind your back, they are in the perfect position to kiss your ass!

The movie looking for Mr, good bar is based on this. Diane Keaton did a fantastic job. Very sad but picking up all those gross men was pretty stupid. Sorry for her, but there are diffrent ways to do what she wanted to do. They had swingers clubs everywhere in New York. Safe compared to her gig. I think getting men in bars was half the fun for her. Gotta see the movie. It was grimy as grimy can be. New York the 70s. KZbin has here.
