It was actually unlikely Alexandra’s children were premature. People noted how large and healthy most of them were, and modern historians believe she lied to Victoria about their due dates so that she could escape Victoria’s invasiveness and so she could give birth in peace

I don't think her life was tragic, but she was, by all accounts a very kind, and sympathetic woman. She met and befriended John Merrick, the Elephant Man. They met in the hospital and she wasn't afraid to be near him, or put off by his looks. She spoke to him as a regular person and they were friends for the rest of his life. She visited Denmark almost every August to keep close with her parents and siblings. Later when her parents had passed, she and her sister Dagmar (Tsarina Maria of Russia) bought a villa together for their annual holiday in Denmark. Their father Christian IX is known as the father in law of Europe and through him she is related to every royal house in Europe.

One of the big contrasts of Alexandra’s life and that of her sister was that in Russia the royal family had very, very strict protocols which made it difficult for them to get out and meet their subjects and learn firsthand what they needed from their leaders. Centuries of serfdom had such negative consequences for both the royals and their people. Alexandra was out and about in England and the British Empire before her husband became king. I pity her because she was just supposed to shut up and put up with her husband’s serial philandering.

Maria Feodorovna was actually very well-liked by the Russian people. It really wasn't until her son Nicholas II took over when extreme hatred and resentment toward the Russian imperial family became prevalent. There were groups who never liked the imperial family but Maria herself was relatively popular.

Her sister was actually popular with the Russian people: beautiful, took the time to learn to speak and read Russian, and she focused on charity which means that she was not accused of being political. It also helped that Denmark and Russia had good relationships. Remember that one thing that also made her successor Alexandra unpopular was that she was German during WW1.

The high-collar necklaces were to cover a surgical scar. For that she was a fashion trendsetter. Her limp was imitated by the 'fashion-set/zeitgeist' of the day for some strange reason. I can't remember which writer/friend(?) who said she had this beauty routine of applying acres of 'powder' to her face in later life. Unfortunately towards the end of the day the powder would clump in the wrinkles she was trying to hide. The white 'mask' was cracking/flaking into macabre monster. That's his/hers words, not mine! Queen Mary also had a difficult path to marriage.

Most women married in the 1800's were in either an arranged marriage or a marriage where the pool of prospective husbands were limited to one's own socio-economic group. Or prospective husbands pre-screened with the daughter allowed to meet with a limited numer of pre-approved men.

Queen Alexandra, the most beautiful, loving, and dutiful Queen consort of Great Britain. She had high morals and didn't let her husband's infidelities shake her morals. She remained true to her character. While Alexandra knew about her husband's extra-marital relationships, she once told a friend, "He loved me the most." She gave permission for Alice Keppel ( One of her husband King Edward's mistress and the current Queen consort Camilla's great- grandmother to visit his deathbed, but quickly asked her to leave when she became somewhat dramatic.)

Be informed that at the September 1861 initial meeting between Edward and Alexandra, she lost her innocence and in December 1862, it was obvious that Alexandra was pregnant. Prince Albert was furious and went to confront Edward. Albert died shortly after. Queen Victoria never forgave Edward. Alexandra was sent to South Africa where she met the intended foster parents and in June 1862, a son was born, unannounced, baptized with an adopted name and sadly abandoned. Alexandra returned home and become engaged to Prince Edward and later, they were married, thus legitimising their eldest son. The descendants of this son have irrefutable DNA evidence of their zero distance to the Royal Family members. When contacted, the former Queen of Denmark abdicated. Although the late Queen Elizabeth 2nd sent a complimentary communication, none shown by the current monarch, who has also announced his intention of abdication as have other, related Royal Family members.

What was so "tragic" about her life? If you want to present a tragic life of a royal, then her sister would be a much better choice.

Good video, however there's some room for improvement. 1.10 You mispronounced her sister's name, Thyra. 3.40 Her brother Vilhelm became king of Greece as George I.

QV Regina was a bit of a controller. 😅 Without this all it wouldnt be like it turned out now. Thinking she all ment well to secure a prosperous future. Still the men in the family had a bon vivant life in compare with the strong regime the wimen had co-op with.🤔😒😅

She was hardly a suffering person. She was queen and empress. She loved jewels and parties and was the belle of British society. In a day when marriages were arranged and were made on dynastic grounds, it was common for husbands to have mistresses and also for wives to take lovers after they had popped out some heirs. She lived a much better life than 99.9% of the people around her

Alexandra started to lose her hearing in her 20s. That and the fact that her husband was philandering made her withdraw from the social circuit very early on. She had many stresses and tragedies in her life, including the death of two sons.

@@zzzbbbooo it was quite common in those days for children to die young or be still born. Her own sister the empress of Russia lost children young. It was also quite common for Husbands and wives in the ruling class to carry on affairs (discreetly) as marriages in those days were matters of dynastic importance and were about suitable partners from a social/religious/economically acceptable position. Love was not expected in most cases. They had their children and supported one another in public, but could lead their private lives as they pleased. As far as her deafness went, it hardly stopped her from socializing. She attended many social functions and state functions throughout her life and into old age. She enjoyed parties and balls and loved very fine jewels and clothes and being admired.

@blue Women who believe that mistresses are only for physical gratification, are beyond ignorance. A man needs hobbies and someone to enjoy them with. Horseracing, riding, hunting, fishing, cards, theater. Heterosexual men enjoy the company of women. Attractive, charming, women. Many of Edward VII's mistresses were married. If you honestly believe he was sleeping with all of them, you are naive. Diana surrounded herself (publicly) with gays and slept with the hired help and married men. Oh yes, let us not forget the foreigners. What does that say about her?

A current Danish royal got his children titles stripped because he's going to work in the Embassy here in the USA so as revenge the Queen has stripped them of everything, all because he's working in the Danish Embassy here in the USA

@Cyan Kirkpatrick I live in Danmark and the queen did not strip them of theyr title because joakim "her second son " moving to usa , he took that decision after wards ,he is takin his apanage with him a couple of millions danish krones , tax payers money btw he has not been doing royal work here in Danmark for years also we paid apanage for his 1 wife "millions a year for over 20 years & she got a free house in Denmark most exclusive addresses. Our Queen is doing what we the Danish people want & that is slimming down the monarchy to bear minimum _ Her -the crown prince & his eldest son all the other kids have gotten the best education & top line connection to get good jobs in the future .. No revenge but survival of the monarchy, we need to use our tax money for other things like health care system -education - also joakim was given a big estate with huge land but he got it into so much debt he had to sell it because of his spending habits , so the queen is quite good to him giving him millions with no work here in Dk , btw the queen had a hug back surgery 2 months ago she is over 80 so its a pretty big deal but he or his side of the family did not come to visit her .... he is spoiled & very ungrateful for what he has been handed throughout the years ,,
