I've just recently started to get into hypmic and this is a really enjoyable way of knowing what happened during its peak popularity. Having merch of almost anything sjkfgk reminds me of the bathtub merch my friend showed me this week.

I had vague knowledge of the walking battles when they were happening and always thought it was a really cute idea for a collab but w/my limited jp skills + not being super active on twt I never knew what'd happened to them so imagine my surprise learning about this chaos years later lmao Thanks for the fun hpmi history lesson! It's made me really nostalgic- I miss how crazy and active hpmi fandom was back in 2018-19 😭

Well this is interesting! Never heard of it especially if it happened during peak. When you mentioned if anyone talks about this incident, more like no one talks about it if it was talked about I'm sure it wasn't English friendly, even during such time it was really hard to get ahold of any info or translations anything really for inter fans except for what was posted on yt official channel (tho i get it this dynamic isn't seen in the west purchasing cds, voting, ect) 🥲 luckily i found hypmic through cosplayers, cosplay of the characters where everywhere best time ever ✨ but the lack of is what made me drift away from it. I do enjoy every track they drop. Right now i wanna get into it again because of the anime but i swear the lack of hypnosis mic content on Twitter and fb is criminally low 😮‍💨 so much worse than before Excuse my long rant but i want to ask, you also said if anyone who knew about this, would they still be in the fandom, what does that mean? I knew it was extremely popular in japan but is that not the case anymore? Yt views have certainly decreased but don't know if that immediately translates to low popularity and sales, again I'm inter fan so don't know what's going on inside the fandom.

Hello! This happened in 2018-19 when HypMic was at it's biggest in Japan, and the fandom I'm referring to is the Japanese fandom - I don't know how many people outside of Japan knew or cared about this event since it wasn't something they could participate in (like you said, it wasn't English friendly at all). I did try to do a few Twitter threads about it but they didn't get a lot of interaction ... When I talk about "anyone who knows about this still being in the fandom," it means that a lot of people who were into HypMic in 2018-19 have moved on and are now in different fandoms (Twisted Wonderland, Genshin, JJK, etc.). HypMic is still popular in Japan but it's not EXTREMELY popular anymore, not like it was 5 years ago. It's still stable and has a solid fan base and income, but the number of highly active HypMic fans has decreased. So the number of people who did the walking battle and are also still active HypMic fans is probably pretty low. Does that make sense?
