one thing i noticed about Canadian musicians & radio hosts is that the hosts do their homework , they know the work and history of the artist they will be talking with and most important of all , there is a respect between the host and artist , an appreciation of each others work and the ability to perform their art in such a great country and Gord Downey always spoke from the heart and never tried to be a star , he only wanted to share his talents and his love of music together with his appreciation for life itself . Thanks for the great interview , it takes two to make a great interview and both of you were great .

I love how Gord explains the process behind the recording of "Plan A". Listening to the album the first few times, I was struck by the emotion in Downie's performance. The songs seem stronger than their last 2 albums because the spontaneity and improvisation is there in the final cuts and has not been edited out or rewritten over. As a result, my favorite tracks, "About this Map", "Goodnight Attawapiskat", and the title track have helped me fall in love with them all over again.

Jian is one of the best interviewers in the world. He always is educated on the guest's past and present, and doesn't ask the same generic questions that every other interviewer does. And i think you can see that the guests appreciate this and then put more in to their answers.

I've wondered how long before he was diagnosed that he had symptoms. His marriage broke up and father died in 2015. There could have been symptoms that he assumed were stress-related.

I notice he's wearing his wedding ring on a chain, not on his finger. I noticed he didn't wear the ring in another interview from the same time. He said here "we've become temporarily estranged from our families." It seems from this that the guys were becoming even closer around this time.

Nice interview. It is tough watching Gord talk about mortality completely unaware what was around the corner years down the road. Big shock that Jian was a big fan of super creep Louie CK. Birds of a feather.

Despite Ghomeshi's fall from grace, it would be such a fascinating interview to hear Jian speak with Gord, 'One Last Time'. He had an incredible ability to connect with his guests and was always a fascinating listen when Gord was in the studio.

Seems his partners were consenting after all, if that's true he should be forgiven and I agree, great skills as an interviewer and always very prepared!

I think these women were so stunned, they didn't know how to react in the moment, and felt too ashamed and exposed to report it afterwards. Kind of like activating sexual paralysis (a shortcut to feeling turned on ready to mate) but he's using it in a twisted way he knows will work, and gets off on the power and control he's almost sure he will get away with. I kind of wonder if there's something wrong with Jian such that he has no real empathy, he doesn't care about any of these women and he makes a good mimicry of emotion. He's obviously clever with people and a great chameleon, so just a theory. Maybe an abuse victim too?

This was a pretty funny interview at times compared to the interview with Strombo. One similarity was Gord's multi-coloured pen, which may be his trademark/security blanket?

Say what you want about Ghomeshi but he's a very good interviewer. I haven't watched Q much since his firing since in my opinion CBC has not yet found an adequate replacement. As for the charges he faced, yes he's very likely a creep. But he was cleared by the justice system after all. I initially sided with the accusers during the trial until i discovered that their stories often didn't make any sense. When the verdict came in i wasn't surprised at all that he was found not guilty. But guilty or not he's still a very good interviewer.

thanks goodness Jian has still remained canceled for the most part. I wasn't surprised he was found not guilty, not because he didn't do it, but because men always have their attorneys do the "he said she said" thing for a reason. Because sadly it works.

He skirts around his wife's cancer in this interview. I wonder made him change his mind about talking about where the themes of death actually came from. His National interview and Strombo interview are quite different.

Whoa dude I think you're jumping to conclusions here! Totally not dissing him was just curious. I'm the biggest Hip and Gord fan out there. When you watch all 3 interviews it's like he decided to make a change and talk about his wife's cancer. Was just wondering what made him change his mind...

I think you're observations were spot on. I suspect GD isn't one who doesn't enjoy giving interviews. Maybe, by the time he did this interview, I wonder if he was tired of answering questions about his wife.

Well I think it's fair to assume there was something on in this interview. He looks tired as fuck. Jian wasn't fully completely there in this interview. He may be 38 years old, but he sure as hell has kissed a girl after having her locked in the trunk of a car. Rumour has it that he held three pistols to his female staff's heads, Cordelia and Grace too. Either that or he is pounding the shit out of a highway girl. He's looking for a place to happen, like the Fidler's Green, he's about to achieve his fifty mission cap.
