In many episodes of Thomas and Friends, they used a sound effect from "The Train" from 1964. Its a really good war movie if you want to see great shots of real trains. Let us know if we missed any!

Seasons 1 through 3 used old 1920's recordings used for The French Connection (1971), Chattanooga Choo Choo (1984) and the most famous, Emperor Of The North (1973). The one here used for The Train (1964) was recorded back in the 40s.

Did you know that in the books and by extension the show, the only reason why they get put back together when they crash is because they’re all famous? Rev. Audrey’s books canonically saved the entire cast from being outmoded with the rest of Great Britain’s steam engines, and subsequently dismantled. Gordon actually had an arc where he mourns the loss of his “brothers” on the mainland.
