To be honest though, the truth is Ling Yunche really does love the Empress. This in itself is a crime for coveting your master's legitimate wife. Everyone around the emperor lying to him and treating him like he's dumb doesn't really help. What should have happened (if Ling Yunche was actually smart) is for him to be nice and loving toward his wife (too many shows where the person in love with someone else can't even pretend to be loving toward the person they married so of course the jealous spouse seek justice somehow). Also, once all this is revealed and it's too late, Ling Yunche should ask the emperor to leave the capital to clear his name. The emperor by nature has ultimate power and conceited. I'm not too surprised how this all played out.

@@TheTCMfan she definitely wasn't a nice person, which should make him even more cautious on making sure he's hiding his sinful covetousness very very well...otherwise, this is what happened. Guess the truth eventually revealed itself (though I still think he could have played it smarter), and the conceited jealous man in power (in this case the emperor) put the lower-social-standing man in his place. In the modern world, your boss probably will try to fire you or sabotage your career.

Well, you’re sort of right - Ling Yunche did love the Emperor’s wife. It just wasn’t the Empress. His love for Ruyi is, by his own account, the love of a sibling. It’s a shame that the Emperor was so selfish and paranoid that he wasn’t able to see that.
