The Transformation of Thorin Oakenshield

A tribute to Thorin Oakenshield from The Hobbit trilogy, played by Richard Armitage. I wanted to make an edit to the Hobbit movies since I really like them and I feel like Thorin would be the best fit to my editing style.
Usually transformation videos are made chronologically, however I felt like that would be really awkward here, considering the way films are structured and there are three of them. So instead I went with a transformation in themes, I showcased the way Thorin's personality transformed over the course of the 3 movies, using scenes that showcased that best. It doesn't mean I will only use scenes from a certain time period, but rather ones that fit thematically.
I started off with Thorin being a loyal friend with honour and respect for those that show it to him, next I went into how everyone doubts his mission and how Thorin slowly becomes more arrogant, while remaining the respect he has for his friends. It slowly evolves into more and more arrogance until all he cares about is the gold inside the mountain. Dwalin then tells him that he can’t see what he has become (title of the song) which makes Thorin second guess himself. At the climax of the music Thorin regains his honour and decides he has to fight for his friends. Unfortunately he suffers from a fatal wound and his last words are him trying to redeem himself.

Thorin is a hero with flaws that's why he is great and you can identify with him. As a dwarf he is the most human character.

Great edit! Armitage did one hell of a performance on Thorin, he makes him so real. Thorin is my true hero and I feel for him. I also like Aragorn but in comparison to Aragorn I think Thorin is even tougher and had a harder and less lucky fate, that is the tragedy. People believed in Aragorn and his right to become king, but Thorin was advised not to become what he was meant to be, his birthright. He had to fight so hard against the majority of different people. He was thrown into the dungeon, the elves were against him and even his people doubted him. Yet he still came through. The moment I really liked in the movie where I commiserated with him was at the gate when he realized Bilbo had betrayed him and that everyone seemed to be against him and his opinion - when Dwalin said "we cannot win this fight" and you just see him crumble and about to give up all his claims and his fate. Wonderful wonderful character. In the book I liked him for his obstinacy, but he truly became real and more comprehensible for me through the movies and Armitage's powerful acting.

This, my friend, is what we call a character study. And a bloody fine one at that. The first Hobbit edit I’ve ever seen and a very impressive one at that. I used to love this films, despite what people say about them, especially the third one. This is a brilliant video that ignited some nostalgia within me. I've never watched the Hobbit movies but I just might after this, cause this guy was fucking awesome!! I love epic melee fights and the warriors that charge headfirst into battle and this guy does both of those in equal measure. Oh Boy! Watching Rings of Power last weekend triggered something. I am back into Middelearth. xD Awesome work! I was, am and will forever be blown away how one human brain (the one of Tolkien) could come up with all these storys and great characters. Thorin grew real not only thanks to Richard Armitage who did a phanomenal(!!) job but also of course through the thought Tolkien but in it and that is just amazing. Maybe I like him so much because he is not pure "good". He is dumb, arrogant and has other flaws. And exactly this reminds me of Prinz Zuko one of my all time favorite characters. Both of them are obviously not "evil". They have their goal/agenda but lose their path on the way and do some bullshit. Also both of them come clear to themselves and manage to be better because they saw what their actions caused. And I don't know why but I adore this kind of character because they are real.
