Really cool idea to take it as overhead luggage. It's always a risk when travelling with a wheelchair, that it will be damaged or go missing - then you're stuck!

flying with a disability is such a nightmare. i always check my wheelchair at the gate, not the front desk [so it goes on the plane with me] and the ONE TIME i didnt do that it was tagged wrong and sent to a different state. it was a nightmare to figure out because even the name was wrong, so they couldnt find it. the airline tried to replace the custom fit wheelchair [which cost about $5000] with a generic rollator i couldnt even use

When I ended up in a wheelchair I was lucky. I mentioned to another wheelchair user that I was going away on a plane. This person said to me Never Check Your Wheelchair. Always take it to the gate with you as they put it straight into the plane. With my manual wheelchair I actually take it to the door of the plane. They then put it straight underneath the plane. I can't sit in those aisle chairs for very long & I don't feel secure. When we get to our destination, they bring my wheelchair to the door of the plane. It would be nice to have a chair you can take in the cabin with you. It's not good enough in this day & age for wheelchairs to be left behind, sent to the wrong place, or damaged.
