I always interpret the last two lines as: “...Of all I failed to be: The Tree on the Hill.” As in Grover was meant to keep the other half bloods safe. HE was supposed to protect them, and now one of them is dead and also holds the same responsibility. All because Grover didn’t take action. The Tree on the Hill, that is all Grover failed to be.

The one thing in the PJO series that really disappointed me was the fact that we never really got to see Thalia’s reaction to being brought back. Like in Titan’s Curse she mentions it being weird, plus she, Annabeth, and Grover are all friends, but their reunion happened off screen. (off page?) Why wasn’t that shown? I would have loved to have seen that! Like Uncle Rick could do a short story from Thalia’s perspective about what went down after she was revived. Like she’s confused as to what’s going on and everyone has to explain to her everything that she missed. It could focus on her getting used to Annabeth being a teenager, since the last time they saw each other Annabeth was seven, how she reacted to the news that Luke had betrayed her, she could have a talk with Grover, there’s just so many possibilities!

I haven’t read the books yet but I will someday. But based on what you said, I agree. It’s annoying when stuff like this in books, movies, and TV shows where we don’t get to see certain things and they just happen off screen. Obviously they do this to help cut time so the audience doesn’t get bored and they can just get straight to the point, but it definitely leaves us wondering about the characters’ reactions. For example, with Stranger Things 4, I have been wondering what was Argyle’s reaction with learning about everything that had been going on in Hawkins with battling the stuff from the Upside Down in the first 3 seasons. Or see Max’s reaction to Lucas explaining everything in season 1. But yeah, based on what you were saying, I too wish Grover and Thalia had a talk together. Imagine if another Percy Jackson musical in which they both have a song together reflecting on what happened. But since Disney+ has that Percy Jackson TV series coming out soon, maybe someone will decide to write something similar to what you were hoping.

Grover has always been one of my all time favorite characters in the series. From listening to the soundtrack, he is still my favorite and i love how he is portrayed in this. And the emotion the actor put into this song is beautiful and exactly how i imagined grover being when he was talking about this. The emotion in the actual animation is just as powerful. It's absolutely heart wrenching that the Broadway actors can capture such raw depth & realness in their emotions & tap into the characters. My honest opinion of what makes an amazing actor is putting a bit of thier own personality into thw roles they play.

Very touching song. It really gets to the heart of why Grover is always doubting himself. Just because he brought 3 demigods to the camp but couldn't save one doesn't make him a bad satyr/protector at all....sometimes bad things happen that we just have no control over and for that I commend Grover because his failure to protect Thalia didn't make him quit...it made him work harder to be the very best version of himself he can be.
