It sounds like Gemma suffered traumatic brain injury or a potential internal near-decapitation. What an awful way to die. The fact that the medical examiner called it death by misadventure instead of holding the park and the ride responsible is even worse. Gemma didn’t go and do something stupid like climb over a safety fence on a cliff for a better picture, she was on a ride that was supposed to be regulated. Her family has every right to be angry.

most likely a severe concussion due to whiplash . the worst grade of a concussion has blood vessels rupture after severe force shears then as the brain bounces around inside the skull. idk what the autopsy report says . she could have died from a skull fracture ( basal or maybe another type) if her head hit something hard. this is all speculation on my part.

The very fact that the coroner ruled Gemma’s death as a “misadventure” doesn’t come even close to which how she died. A misadventure creates a narrative that an accident taking place leads you to infer that the victim was somehow involved due to an error whilst climbing, surfing, or some other outdoor adventure or activity. Gemma died due to negligence, not a GD “misadventure” as she was simply riding on a theme park structure. The other resulting fines and punishments are a clear indication that Gemma’s life, and safety, wasn’t THE top priority of the park owners. Gemma’s death was caused by blatant negligence, ignorance and pure greed!!! RIP Gemma Savage 💔

You said there was a block error detecting a car in front of them but there wasn’t one. It was simply an error. But then you said after the operator manually released the block it caused her car to forcibly smash into the one in front of them. Then it happened again. And then collided with a third car at high velocity. So, I guess I’m confused at how it collided with a car in front of here when you said there wasn’t one, and also how it could collide with a THIRD car, which is physically impossible. I’ve watched this video 3 times and still can’t figure out how this happened. I’ve operated a few large coasters at parks so I know how these things work.

This must be a popular ride design, as I’ve seen this ride many times. I’ve even been one two like this in theme parks in the UK. I have to admit, I’ve seen so many of these amusement park ride death videos, I don’t like going on rides now, unless they are ones going around a track on the ground. The number of times I’ve seen really young employees operating these rides, start the ride and then stand chatting to another member of staff, not watching to see if there are any problems. If I was a staff member, I would be watching all the time, as I wouldn’t want anyone to get hurt. At that time these people are really under your care, and it’s up to that staff member to keep them safe at all times. These tragedies should and could be avoided. Unfortunately it all comes down to greed by the companies who own them.

It is unbelievable that ride operators, theme park owners and ride manufacturers, even when found guilty of negligence or improper operation of their rides, are not made to pay compensation to victims for injuries or wrongful death. The laws regarding such accidents need to be changed to protect riders.
@Deadsea_199311 ай бұрын
I've found that when these accidents happen outside of United States that the victim's loved ones are screwed pretty much. Ridiculous laws are in places like Europe where the park's owners and managers get away with a slap on the wrist. There was another story about an Icelandic child that died on a Rollercoaster in Spain. The people there got away with a slap on the wrist too. This ruling was a sham. How was it misadventure if she was seated properly and following the rules ? She wasn't standing up or buckling/unbuckiling her restraints constantly for extra thrills. She wasn't trespassing in an off limits zone of the park, etc.

I have operated roller coasters. Gemma would still be alive if operators were trained correctly. The sound of the first crash should’ve told the operator to E stop, and the mode switch by maintenance should’ve alerted the operators to stop. It’s worth mentioning that the “wild mouse” coaster design actually has a grim track record for safety. This type of ride is notorious for whiplash, ejections, and head + neck injuries. Since the cars rotate 360° it’s impossible to test the ride under every possible loading condition. Do you think they tested the coaster for every combination of passenger weights in different seats, every dip from different positions, and the effect of rotation through the dips ALL TOGETHER?? No they didn’t, they took an average but this ride swings outside of its expectations regularly. One of its main selling points is that it is a fairly inexpensive coaster to buy so…. Condolences to the family, this is still so upsetting because it was completely preventable. 💐

The man involved quit after a short while because he felt too guilty and responsible even after the verdict came back that it wasn't fully his fault. From what I heard he never forgave himself for that young girls death and the role he played in it. Sorry if I'm a bit thick... BUT it's just a tiny bit confusing... If it was a fault, and there was NO car in front of hers, then... um... how did she died when her car hit the one "ahead" of hers??? Look, it all comes down to basics... THE FIRST STEP in dealing with a fault on a roller coaster (or any such ride) SHOULD BE the E-stop... period. Something goes wrong, and you STOP the friggin' ride. Most of them last a minute or two... three TOPS... so just stop and circulate (P.A. system/speakers/whatever) apologies for the inconvenience... beg a little understanding and then be ALL about clearing the "fault"... whatever it is, FIX IT... THEN you can go forward with returning carriages and trains to the platform, and iron out how to re-start... EVEN let the riders who were "denied" get a free pass to the next round. It's ONLY going to take a revolution more for those "stuck in line" to get their turns... JUST try to be fair and impartial, the best you can... AND if the ride has to close down "indefinitely" or for the day... some kind of bric-a-brac treats or novelties will usually smooth things with the riders... They'd all MUCH RATHER survive to return or ride later than get mangled hopeless or killed on the ride anyways. This ain't that damnably difficult. SH*T HAPPENS... everywhere... AND most of us in the adult world can handle the concept... forgive and there'll be a next time. ....AND in case there are rides where the E-stop shouldn't be the FIRST thing to do, maybe they shouldn't be considered "safe" to begin with. If you can't stop at will, then YOU ARE NOT IN CONTROL!!! PERIOD... I've ridden my motorcycle with that understanding SOLIDLY in my head for more than 30 years, and through more than a dozen countries and more than a million miles. I'm still in damn good shape for my age. The bike is still in good shape, and it's still FUN AS HELL TO RIDE! Maybe I'm a bit "old school", and I'm glad the theme parks are making progress in tangible fashions... BUT I think I'll stand by my principle on this one... ;o)

To me one hour of training on an amusement ride and not knowing how to hit an emergency stop button is criminal negligent homicidehomicide in and of itself I think equal to murder. No way would I ever have an amusement park with rides where people have been trained for only one hour… I would see this as an incredibly dangerous responsibility and would take all necessary safety precautions that I could possibly do… One hour training is outrageous and that’s an understatement…

I feel so awful & heartbroken 💔 for this family. I am not..I repeat NOT a "rides" preson..and, know this is different. But I have a disabilitie & wear leg braces..so, some rides I just can't go on. But they're not for me..I feel so sorry for this family 😢😢 💔 💧

On a happier note, I think The Sewer Rat is the best ride name I’ve ever heard. Poor Gemma should’ve ridden it instead.

One hour of training?! They all seem to only have that when these stories are being told. People who make sandwiches get more training 💔

I agree with Gemma’s mother - the fines levied were not nearly enough considering someone died

I come from a family that has worked in the fairground business for decades I've on the exact same type of ride as the Tree Top Twister or the Mouse as we refer to it as anyways I used to ride on the Mouse quite a lot as kid and never once did it feel dangerous primarily because the exact one I rid on was owned operated and maintained by professionals who knew what they doing as they had grown up in the fairground business like me so this story is unnerving for me

Low key, the Tree Top Twister looks like so much fun. This could be any of us, just wanting a nice, carefree day with friends and family until unforeseen tragedy strikes. It's such a shame.

Sometimes the people operating the rides are so young, almost school leavers. They don't have the capacity to think in emergencies.
