Some of the things Peart was putting in there get by most people. The choke cymbals in Xanadu, the traditional grip in La Villa Strangiato as well as that double snare roll fill at the end. Wow! Throwing sticks around...😅 Peace, thank you. ✌️

Alex Lifeson had one of the most extensive chord vocabularies of any rock guitarist. Rock, jazz, classical, reggae and all other genre of guitar voicing he was experienced in. While other hot doggers were practicing the same triplets over and over to get play them as fast as is possible, Alex was expanding his library of chords and arpeggios. He was the most creative user of arpeggios I have ever heard.

The best thing about this version(ESL 1981)is to see how much they evolved in just 8 years to 1988’s A Show of Hands video. Neil still had ALL the real acoustic percussion pieces to play live and reproduce the songs as they were originally recorded. Alex and Geddy still using guitar cables vs wireless transmitters. The Taurus bass pedals and Mini Moog keyboards and synthesizers were soon replaced with MIDI software and samples of the prerecorded music to be triggered or called up in real time during the live performance.🤯🥇🥁🎸🎹🎤🤘

Astonishing these two shows were 30 years apart (1981-2011). Amazing the skills of all three held up that well and their synch/chemistry did as well. As complex as this band’s music is, what stands out to me is its restraint. All three are in the running for best ever at their instruments. None of these guys ever seems to step on the others. I keep coming back to Alex here. Unlike many rock guitarists of his stature, he has no “diva.” Too nice, too much a team guy. Within the team concept, Alex did have some “statement” solos. One was at the end of Xanadu, just after Geddy’s last vocal verse. Another was in La Villa Strangiato. The third was in “The Garden” which was essentially the band’s swan song.

You two are fairly entertaining. I really like that you're covering Rush. To me, the greatest single album side ever is side 3 from exit stage left. I heard y'all the other night covering just Xanadu, and wanted to mention that The Trees flows right into that. And the little acoustic solo that bleeds into trees is called Broon's Bane. These three dudes do it all live. PLEASE respect, and at least know what you're talking about before getting out there....to talk about it! Also, by album sides I mean ONE SIDE OF VINYL only. Not many these days understand that. Other great "sides" would be side 1 of dark side of the moon, either side of Boston, side 1 of Asia , either side of back in black, and anything CSNY has ever done. You can also throw in the first side of all of Van Halen first 5 albums, and DEFINITELY side two of Journey Escape!

You know, people hear the music they play and while many 'get it' many really never do. There are so many key pieces of transitions that any slipped note or missed accent could trip the whole thing up and get them off track... Any little slip there'd be a completely different outcome... But there isn't. Each one of them has to be so relied upon to hit their cues, and not for a 2-3 minute reel mind you, the whole outcome of each 5 to +10 minute songs. A broken guitar string, a broken drum head, broken stick, electronic glitches, anything could occur to disrupt most any piece these guys play and through it all they play through it whether live or during recordings. The articulation is beyond remarkable for most any regular musician; and these guys put it together at such a high rate it's near mesmerizing. And believe me, their road crew is on top of everything so they deserve just as much credit. No catch net! From one player to the next the reliability factor is off the charts. Someone not 'feeling it' yet to know when to urge one another or lay off... It was really cool. They loved it. Creativity at its finest. Like passing the torch from one another and just strapping in and launching it out there. Sweet!

There are a few headphones that attempt to simulate surround sound. Also, if someone who was listening to this with the surround track selected, but who only had two speakers, or headphones, would not hear all of the elements of the music. Geddy's voice, mixed mainly for the center channel, would mostly be missing. So, I wondered what you might be hearing. But you've cleared that up. Thanks for the Rush reactions.
