People love to say it's hard to climb as a support because you can't carry, but I've never agreed with that. Supports just carry in different ways. You find struggling players and bring them up to par, or find your best teammate and make them absolutely cracked. But you need to have the right mindset, and that is being the power behind the throne. You set them up for success.

Comfey might be an outlier since you're so reliant on your teammates, but I definitely agree with a pokémon like Eldegoss I've had some of my best games with it and it's definitely one of my go to when I've had some bad games.

The problem is that your lane partner or other teamates are new to the game they will not understand how to use u. I did a toon of stupid choices back then like engaging enemies before waiting for my blissey and things like that... Nowadays I understand how the game works so it don't happens anymore but when I play hoppa... Sometimes my teammates just ignore my portals .

What I tell inexperienced healers is often this: "You're used to looking at the enemy HP bars. Stop that, they no longer matter to you. You need to get your dopamine hit not by reducing the amount of orange on the enemy HP bar, but by increasing the amount of blue/white on your ally HP bars. You do not act alone. Winning that much as a supporter / defender would be a dream come true. It's all I want from the game. Unfortunately, what I get more often is a nightmare. Teams that won't engage, teams that won't ever fight together, ending up alone in path as a support, teams that push a tier 2 goal instead of taking bot regi, I reluctantly join to support, we all die, they get objective, they get our tier 2, team now wants to surrender... Then you get thrown in a pitty bot game and the only thing worse than trying to support players is trying to support bots... Or you get the opposite, your team is so cracked (or the enemy team is so bad) that you feel like you don't even need to be there supporting because your team just rolls the enemies like a soggy newspaper. Better than a depressing loss for sure, but I do like to feel like I did my job and wasn't just along for the ride. Communication would probably help a ton, but I'm too shy to get on mic and try to direct people and I find it difficult to pull up the ping menu (or even think to pull it up) in the middle of a game. I guess I should probably try to work on that.

Using your chat wheel is useful to help direct games, but as a supporter you may have to make decisions that won't benefit the game but will allow you to stay with your team because you're not going to be able to do much on your own. In my experience, there are some games that are literally unwinnable as a support - I had one yesterday where it seemed as if people were wandering around and not actually playing the game. That's an extreme example though, as long as you're trying to keep your teammates alive you increase their effectiveness and can set up some strong fights

3. Good communication. If you know Dr.K he talked one time about how he ran 2 accounts on dota (one where he was completely silent and one where he communicated a little with his team). He found that just a little communication made a massive difference in winrate.

I'm an Eldegoss main and love supporting my teammates. I just wish more players understood the meaning of an exp share, item choices especially in draft and some of our moves & passives. Sometimes, I read pokemon moves and passive descriptions especially pokemon licences that I don't own. Even remembering a pokemon's level cap is already helpful enough~ With Elde, she provides so much movement speed reduction that some players don't take advantage of. Also when there's an upcoming objective and I'm placing pollen puff or egg bomb as Blissey on the grass, PLEASE DON'T rush forward and check it yourself. I'm providing vision buddy 😂 Unless you're a defender and checking the grass as well then please don't get yourself get stun locked and caught by the enemy team. I've read in some comments on how they don't want to play support with 4 attackers and I totally understand. However, if you still want to rebel against these insane peeps that wants a full attacker team (lmao), then I recommend Blissey for her unite move. You just have to figure out who's playing well enough to carry the team OR someone with a unite OR (as last choice) an auto attacker

Another thing is understanding how different supports in particular play. Some play more of the frontline (like Wiggly and Mime) using disruption and damage respectively to help the team while the traditional healers need to kind of be in the mid-line. Ready to back up a defender’s engage while also in a position to help a carry if something dives them. And then there’s Sableye. Actually better than you think IF used properly. I find Feint Attack (with Curse Bangle) incredible vision utility. Particularly at a little before Ray, you can drop some Feint Attack orbs in the enemy side Ray bushes to give vision for your team as you go to score at 2 minutes. Even though you aren’t physically there, you’re providing vision and even a healing debuff if the enemy healer walks into it.

I will be a second witness to this. I did a season where I challenged myself to play Mr. Mime only because he was new to me, and I focused on being the best supporter I could. That is still my highest win rate season when I achieved masters with a 76% WR.

I actually love playing support. If you can play support well and, like Jake said, communicate with your team, you're often like the field general out there, since you're the catalyst and coordinator of big plays. But you have to be okay with knowing that things are going to seldom be in your hands, because the team needs to respond well to your callouts. This is a great guide, Jake. For last 6 seasons I had only played defenders and support for my 5 stacks and even trioq .if you communicate with randoms in a very wholesome way I think anyone will hear and follow your commands . because in my case it is working quite well my randoms are fortunately so much well they know how exp share works know how to rotate,when to push ,when to retreat etc in such case playing defenders and support is like best feeling to have . I started thinking that my randoms are quite good I think timi improved the matchmaking 😊

My slowbro is by far my highest win rate pokemon and it's peak with buddy barrier, focus band, and exp share. Surf/telekinesis is such a strong build as it just shuts down so much and allows your team to dominate unhindered. Recently I've been playing strong all rounders and it was so much tougher to get to masters. This video has convinced me to get back to my slowbro roots.

i have actually never felt underappreciated or not being able to carry as a support in my short pokemon unite journey so far, and i love whats said in the video. Mindset is key, and a lot of people who wanna tell support players, that their role is the weakest, least influential or its harder to carry on playing it, geniunly dont have the right mindset or insight i feel like. Read another comment about dopamine and how you gain it by making orange bars go poof as an attacker and i feel like its a concept a lot of people dont understand applies to supports but with the green bars on teammates go max. :D Supports also do not just rely on "one dude popping off" and you pocketing that mf... It's also making the damage of mistakes undone, shotcalling, boosting morale or even making some huge play in a teamfight. Ensuring the wincondition stays up all across the game, helping securing those early xp. After all, when their speedster dives you, you love the gravity field anyways ;D

I find myself drawn to the support role more and more with every season, but the reason is pretty silly. The more I play this game, the more I feel like I am not good enough for the carry role (as in, I know what a good carry is capable of and I can't stack up to those kinds of players, I don't think I'm straight up bad at it lol). It's pretty tough changing my mindset sometimes, but I genuinely love the support role. It feels really good seeing your carry that you stuck to all match getting the four KO streak at Ray and securing the win, and when they gives you a thumbs up at the end, you feel so acknowledged and appreciated.

I think what gets a lot of people confused or thinking in an inefficient way, including myself is each Pokémon is used in a different role depending on what other Pokémon on your team and the opponents team, not necessarily just your move set or what color background the Pokémon has. I really hope this video doesn’t fall out of the algorithm too quickly cause all of this is incredibly sound advice. Defenders and Supporters are like the offensive line in football, If they’re doing their job then you don’t really notice but if they aren’t it’s incredibly noticeable. I also recommend everyone at least learn to play Defender and Support so that you understand what your teammates need from you in order to do their job correctly. Cause nothing is more tilting than watching a speedster dive way too deep before your defender can engage, they get KO’d and then blame you for not doing your job when they made it impossible.

i agree with using support to get you wins. i cant for the life of me play what i want to play in the game because the four other teammates want to play whatever, and in many cases its Cinderace lane, Greninja lane. Dragapult lane, and on and on. for a while i couldnt climb up the rankings, but since i started using supports i got master rank like 5 times in a row. last season i wanted to play some attackers i dont play but when i do, my teammates never pick support or even a defender. this season i decided to focus back on just supporting my team. got a 70% win-rate with my boy Mr. Mime and i made master rank last night. In my case, because the matchmaking hates me, i have to sacrifice and play defenders and supports to get wins.

I play defender. My biggest issue with this game is if your middle isn't good your going to lose. So often I'm on top goal and the goal is getting swarmed and the middle is just not coming to help no matter how many times you ask. They stay in the middle until they are fully evolved. And then FINALLY when the goal has been destroyed and the opposing team gets Regieleki they decide to come. It's incredibly frustrating.

I will say, idk what happened, but I also hit Masters at 90% last season… normally 55% or so, and dropped back there this season. Maybe they tried something with matchmaking. Definitely had some lucky Ray secures but also fewer trolls. They’re all back this season until about 1400. Edit: BUT that said, these are all great tips.

At first, I thought the video was a bit click-baity. I often get annoyed when I see professional streamers tell people how to get high win rates like them, because they often forget that they're outliers - exceptionally skilled players who have the benefit of far more experience and play time than the average player. That being said, I was pleased to see that you pivoted into something instructive and helpful. You explained that supporting has its own skill and nuance. You can't just pick a supporter and expect good things. And communication is also helpful (when you aren't banned by salty teammates even when you're being respectful). I would like to see more streamers talk about the fine art of supporting. As a former defender/supporter main, I can say from experience that these roles are frustrating. For the most part, unless you have an exceptional level of understanding and skill level with your role (which I don't claim to have), you're only as good as your teammates. Let's all recognize the pain these guys take on when they pick these roles and give them a little understanding if they can't drag their team to victory. It's harder than it looks.

I run buddy barrier on my all-rounders and defenders precisely for 2 reasons: no one plays anymore, and it buys time against "unpeelable" dive like Mimikyu and Charizard or any supreme burst. But if I'm leftmost in blind pick or topmost in draft, or if I can tell the people ahead of me are a duo/trio, I feel contractually obligated to carry. Playing support is fun. It takes a little bit of pressure off, too. I find I get super stressed if I'm playing a "carry" Pokémon (which is not very often), or even just a mid-range Attacker, and things aren't going well. That said, there'll always be those who want to call you out even when you play a Supporter or Defender when they get KOed. Because apparently it's my fault they didn't last the full match without getting KOed. 🙄

I reached master rank from ultra 5 to master only playing support wiggly tuff, all two items and emblems on def, special defense, resonant guard and one special attack item, changes by what my lane ally use ( attack stacking item) or shell bell, curse insense. I really would like to play Attackers or All arounders but I can't stand having a team without a Defender. That's why I'm a Defender main. I like being the front line

I think either you’re stacking, the game favors you because of your rep, or you’re just lucky because I’m currently solo Queue masters 1512 and it’s a goddamn nightmare. I main Crustle/defenders, typically Crustle rn is like… abysmal unless your team is good because he has no sustain. Then on a good team he’s really useful. But 99% of these games is team members splitting up and feeding, overextending, falling into the Venus noob trap, busting unite moves before ray, and losing ray almost every time because they NEVER set up for Ray and constantly over extend and start pointless battles before Ray. I use a SOLID Crustle build with exp share/resonant guard, and focus band , yet you level your teammates with exp share just to feed the enemy team half the time. It’s all VERY NOTICEABLE when your team knows what they’re doing but like I said, most players have no idea what to do because they don’t watch these videos and just play carries into masters. Another thing is Crustle needs to be up front but with no sustain he can’t do much. His unite move is the only thing close to sustain in his kit. Rock tomb is amazing but with the stop to cast, it doesn’t block a runner and blocks your team half the time. We need defender reworks if we want more people to play them because as a defender main, I can see why people don’t play them. You can be great but you still aren’t carrying unless the enemy team is total trash.

Definitely streamer favoritism. Unite Devs are gonna make sure that the top Unite streamers get good matchups to help promote the game. What would be the point if the top streamers are constantly streaming losing, that doesn't help get new players to play the game.

@@pwn3dg4m3r I’m not a 100% but it just appears that way. Any other MOBA I can get on top of the ranks and carry easily. MLBB,, honour of kings, Vainglory before it got kind of trashed . Wild rift , I just didn’t like playing an extra 10-20 mins. But I think most of the problems is in Unite come from being too short of a match. Everything matters so much more and no amount of practice or understanding the game despite dedicating tons of hours to trying to learn and improve can make up for the general population or how bamboozled you get for team mishaps. It just sucks cause I love pokemon and the game has potential but the company doesn’t seem to want to really fix anything. A pokemon MOBA is what the fans want, but we want one that fits more of the MOBA format that already solves all these issues.

I got to master this season with a WR of around 78% by mainly playing supports and defenders lol. And I also won my first 5 draft games doing the same
