I still feel like the Military presence kept that air of moral grey. From an outside observer, they defimitely seem more violent and uncommunicative, but from the perspective of someone who's observed what the virus does, its almost depressingly sane why they're so drastic. Someone lashing out because "muh gubmint!" looks nearly identical to someone suffering the effects of the virus. The one comment I'd make on it is that it is a lot more subtle. It gives the more raw look at how a quarantine would have to work, which looks almost intentionally malicious at times.

@Ethan Seal No, you really dont. The hell do ya'll think happens in basic? There's literal precedents for not having to follow an immoral or unlawful order.
@Suisfonia5 жыл бұрын
@@zacharybutterfras1697 Don't bother, you are dealing with people who don't understand context and look purely on the surface and not underneath. Before I start, bare in mind that I was in the military, 19D and have two family members likewise serving. I talked with them both about this subject, and at no point were they ever taught to kill their own people, but rather instead, to protect them. So I generally feel that those making those statements are anti-military and just looking for something to tarnish the bravery of those who wish to kill their lives in the service of their country. There are standards in place that allows a soldier to disobey what he believes is an unlawful order, of course, you gotta becareful when doing that as what you perceive as unlawful may be lawful in the eyes of the constitution. An example being this very movie. What these soldiers are doing is not unlawful in the least, nor is it unconstitutional. You *have* to contain an outbreak in order to prevent it from spreading to other population centers, otherwise you'll have a major pandemic on your hands. I'll give an example: soldiers being ordered to kill a group of civilians due to being infected with a *not curable illness* that can spread like wildfire and kill others, is not unlawful because there is no known cure. In order to prevent it from spreading, you gotta take out the carriers. Ya, I know, it's harsh and it would be wonderful if people could live - but you gotta remember: The lives of the many outweigh the lives of the few. Again, harsh. But it's better to contain and kill off a population of infected rather than let them mill about and infect the entire country. And yes, if I were one of those infected, I'd be willing to trade my life to ensure that someone else isn't infected. (then again, that might be because I understand that there more lives at stake than my own) However, it is true that the military is trained to kill people (duh, how else are you going to protect your country and its citizens from external *and sometimes internal* threats?) However, it is a myth - an actual lie - that the military trains our soldiers exclusively to kill their own people. I'll be blunt, I'd have liked it if the military was called out to deal with some of the terroristic threats we have in our country (Antifa, for example) but the constitution forbids their deployment within the country unless a national emergency is declared. Admittedly, there have been times that the guard has been called out and yes they have fired on citizens before, for justifiable reasons: Katrina - initially the guard was not permitted use of deadly force, but after *they* were fired upon many times by gangs, those orders were changed. They fired upon gangs that fired upon themselves. They eventually took the role of policing the streets temporarily because the police were overwhelmed and yes they did fire upon looters, but again, justifiable since it was to protect someones private property. There have been a few cases where the guard has been rolled out for various riots that have occurred in our country, but people forget, that the only times the guard has been authorized to shot is when *they* have been fired upon first. For some reason, people think that the guard shouldn't be allowed to defend themselves from an attacking foe. For example, if I were to fire upon a guard member, I'd fully expect for them to return fire. Why? Because I'm a threat to their life and the lives of those around them.

Why must the military be seen as oppressive? From their point of view, they are trying to stop a deadly virus from spreading to other parts of the country. It's probably because we have a strong distrust of government in our culture. Making government the cold and calculated antagonist of a story is an easy way to win audiences because it uses their internal fear to confirm their biases. Afterall, the military is really just a highly weaponized branch of our government. If totalitarianism took hold and martial law was declared tomorrow, it's not gonna be the politicians rounding people up and sticking a gun in their faces. God bless the troops.

The 2010 remake scared me and also made me think: "Maybe a virus like this would be a possibility?" I mean think about this: a lot of human beings around the world have emotions or even other personality disorders that can actualy make them do something so horrific, that a virus like in the movie The Crazies can be strong enough, that it can destroy all the good parts of the human brain and turn them into phsycotic killing machines. A lot of people can have violent tendecies and if they wanted, they could unleash them if they choose to do so, only our strong part or the good side of our brain can hold these kind of actions back and also our good emotional states. Everyone has a darkside and to some people, it can be sacrier then any monster.

Timothy Olyphant was my favorite actor for like 5 years lol it seems like he had a "peak" and then slowly started to fade since he was in the Hawaiian Vacation thriller back in the 2010's (ish) with Steve Zahn and Milla Jovovich called "A Perfect Getaway." (That everyone should see.)
@JadeCordova4 жыл бұрын
He focused his time on his TV shows, Justified (2010-2015), Santa Clarita Diet (2017-2019) and had other small TV and movie roles during that decade. A Perfect Getaway was released in 2009 and is indeed a brilliant film. Tim Olyphant is still my favorite actor. Pitifully underrated

The 2010 "The Crazies" movie was great, but I personally thought the title of the film was what killed it. Cause back in 2010 when I saw the commercials for the movie I said "The Crazies?!?! That sounds like they ran out of names for movies, ehh I'm not seeing that sounds desperate and boring." Years later when I saw it on spike tv I was totally wrong that movie was crazy scary or very unsettling.

I love the remake, it's one of my favorite horror movies. I wished they had made a sequel to it with the next town looking like it was going to get quarantined.

I remember when this movie came out it wasn't that popular, just another passing movie of that year. It was an amusing movie.

I got a strange ad today. It was trying to sell beds. I almost came out my skin when it went from the narrator’s calm and soft demeanor to an ad at least 3 times louder. I was certainly not interested in sleeping any time soon after that. 🙃

What I love best in Romero remakes is the drop of focus on the human condition and shift to straight horror. Romero is an icon, for sure. I just don't care for thinly veiled messages about how we're all people and should treat each other better.

I prefer the original because of two factors one was the unknown factor when it came to guessing who infected. What I mean is there are scenes where people are panicking and is it the virus or just fear from the military? I also love David's decision to keep quiet he is immune as a F you to the military and government for what they did to his wife, friends, and town.

Original was great, but I love the 2010 version, it's definitely one of my favorite horror movies of all time.
