For those out of the loop, Upchurch sampled Can I Get an Outlaw by Luke Combs for this early heavy hitter off Heartbeat of America. He even got Luke Combs to do a video with him. Upchurch's version went viral as expected and it was a hit. Shortly thereafter Combs and Upchurch were given and offer for a record deal with Sony under the condition they stop looking or acting like a Tennessee country boys. Combs took it, Upchurch declined it. I guess then they realized their newest star was in a viral video featuring more Confederate flags than Stone Mountain, and since country music is about making money without offending anyone these days, Sony threatened Upchurch with legal action for including the name Luke Combs in the videos. They probably thought they could sign Upchurch too and force him to remove the video and song from memory while milking both artists for their "sound".

The song Outlaw with Luke and Church was the start of the beef. After the song aired, Luke asked Church not to associate him with the song because being an "Outlaw" did not fit his image. Luke probably is an outlaw at heart, but has some record executive telling him it would be bad for his image. Church lost respect for him after that. The two guys in the video are not representing anyone to my knowledge, but are there to illustrate how the big music companies screw over the artist.

I come from a town in southern Missouri. We let out the entire week for deer season in our high school. And 3 days for turkey season. I came across up Church in Oklahoma at a Sonic. Hollered at him asking for a picture. He said hell yeah grab my phone took about four or five selfies with us talked for about 20 minutes and bought our meal. Good ole boy.
