WARNING! This video contains spoilers for The Troop, a 2014 novel by author Nick Cutter (Pen Name). This video is intended for those that have read the novel and are looking for a refresher, or haven't read it, but don't mind it being spoiled. You've been warned.
The Troop follows a small troop of Canadian boy scouts who are on a remote island off the coast, called Falstaff. They plan to step away from technology and participate in outdoor activities as part of the scout program, led by Tim, their scoutmaster. While the troop is settling in on the island, a mysterious stranger arrives ashore. The stranger is sick, with what, Tim doesn't know, but he is a doctor and feels obligated to help. That effort to assist the man quickly spins out of control, resulting in one horrifying tale that really gets under your skin. The Troop was far more unsettling than I initially expected, but worth the read. Additional warning though, there is some animal brutality in this story, so if tread lightly. I didn't like those sections, but maybe that is the point.

That little section towards the end where that girl messaged Newt's online persona... I think it was the girl that Newt earlier in the book said was beautiful and whatever else. That section really broke my heart

Genuinely one of the best disturbing horror novels I've read. It's well written, the pacing is fantastic, and most importantly IT'S ACTUALLY SCAREY. The horror genre has become so diluted with hacks over the years, it was refreshing to find a novel of this calibre. I give it 10/10

I hate to say it cuz it's a kid character, but I could not wait for Shelley to get killed off, the book tortured me with his presence😢 My favorite part of the book was when the scientist and navy guy got interrogated by the investigator.

Honestly I don’t get why the turtle scene was so upsetting to people. It was brutal but in a very sympathetic way both to the kids and the animal. It was only a little sad but you felt some relief after it was over. The chimp and the kitten segments on the other hand…. Straight up had to take breaks after those. Only felt full-body gross after those

Currently reading this book, stumbled on your vid, I love the premise. I subscribed, will come back to finish the vid and look for other reviews/recommendations Edit: Im late, but I finished the book and vid forever ago. Both are very good! The premise could make a good film, if they left the origins a mystery or only do a reveal at the end. As for the video, I am loving this format of a 8 bit style recap! The premise is unique, covering various media with a special caveat to it, such as Ending Explains or Cinema Sins do in their own ways. Keep up the good work!

Just finished reading this the other day! It was a good read, though rough that all the bad things happen to young pre-teen boys who didn’t really do anything wrong to deserve it. Still, great twists and turns

It's been a while since I read the book, but I don't remember Shelby attacking the kids back in the cave. I remember the kids arriving in the cave and finding his dead body. Then something inside of him starts to move. His body explodes and they run away. Furthermore, the ending is not let to speculation because the boy who survives undergoes lots of tests, all of which result in negative for parasites. What I loved about your video: It's an original way to do recaps and I loved your voice and personality. What I wanted to see more: Your opinions in the ending of the video, specially about the things you disliked. I like when people are honest and not cheerleading all the time. What I didn't like: Preety much I got no complaints. Keep doing the good work, budy.

You know, I actually can't remember exactly what happens in the cave, I think it's a very mild attack if it happened. Thank you for the feedback. I am definitely going to include more opinions in my video. I'm glad someone wants to hear them, I wasn't sure.

As someone who's listened through several times and just finished another listen, Shelly did in fact attack Max and Newt, ending with Shelly's worm-engorged stomach bursting when he's on top of Newt and infecting him. Shelly dies there and the boys flee without the spark plugs in fear - Max goes back while Newt is sleeping to get the plugs. The last thing Max sees on his way out is the conqueror worm beginning to exit Shelly's dead body.
