Your explanation was very good and easy to understand. Perfectly detailed to get this point solidly anchored. Now why does my Stanton 680 EL work better with the ground wire from the turn table disconnected and dangling to the floor with my Technics SL D2. Never had a problem with my Phillips 212 , but my Dual was finicky . But connected with the Technics the hum is loud and only slightly audible with the volume turned pretty high.

Interesting, have you tried a different cartridge? The Technics design should be quieter with the ground connected.

I hope this one is better I have the X2 not the “b” but with the upgraded sub platter and the power supply and it’s great but I still like better my old thecnics 1700mk2. I also had the thecnics sl1200gr. I’m waiting for the new thecnics sl1200gr2, is taking longer to get it here in the states. Are you guys gonna carry the new thecnics? Pro ject has a Really solid turntables at good prices. The balance option is great.

I just purchased the Pro-Ject X1b and Phono Box DS3B. I would like to upgrade to balanced connections but I do not have an amp or receiver with balanced inputs. I'm running the DS3B outputs into a Anthem receiver pre-out and into a Rotel class AB stereo amp. Is this an okay setup?

You'll first need a balanced phono cartridge, then a cable to go to the DS3B. That is the very important link as the signal level is so low. I was waiting for the Debut Pro to come off pre-order but after reading up and watching this I am going with the X1b. I am moving away from my Rega P3 + TT-PSU due to hum (rega grounding issues) & lack of azimuth/VTA controls (not as friendly for cart exploration). The X1B reads like an excellent starting choice for future balanced out / MC cart options in the future as my budget affords it.

I also ordered the Amethyst stylus upgrade for the base Ranier cart that comes standard on the X1B. I recently ran across a channel here on KZbin that stated the Amethyst stylus (oyster) needs its own body (not the Ranier)...is this true or...? Audio Advice customer support told me the Ranier body can accept the Amethyst oyster, hence why I ordered (it is on backorder so I can modify still if not).@@AudioAdvice

Yes, we were a little puzzled at first as to why they didn't. After speaking with them, we discovered the original X1, which the X1B replaced, was not balanced and was only $100 less than the new X1B. The X1B turntable on its own for its price with the Rainier is just a super good sounding turntable. Had they packaged it with a moving coil, the balanced cable, and the necessary balanced phono preamp, it would have been a lot more expensive and out of range of many people who would appreciate the X1B even without going balanced. It still would have been great to see that as an option!

considering that today youcan find at around 1200/1300 eurothe X2B mounting a 400€ MC cartridge I completely miss the meaning of this turntable, why anyone would buy the X1B when you have a straight up better option at the same price of adding a decent mc cartridge to the X1B?

Yes, we somewhat agree at first glance. This is all about being able to run the MC in fully balanced mode, which this table allows. But you also need a fully balanced phono preamp. You have to experience the real silence this method allows. Unfortunatly, there are not a lot of balanced phono preamps, but Pro-Ject makes a few

@@AudioAdvice for sure but if you buy balanced it is because you want that, and if you want that you need MC... otherwise I do not see why buing for a premium price the X1B and not directly the X1.. and again, if you want balanced why you should go X1B where you need to buy and set up a MC cartridgewhen you have the X2B option that is a straight up better turntable and includes also the MC cartridge... it is more expensive, sure, but probably less or same of upgrading the X1B and for sure less of a pain to set it up...
