15:32. The custom shop he’s trying to think of is Joe Despagni.. that is where the first JEM guitar was actually made.

My dad was C-Level for Hoshino from the mid 70s till the early 90s and I have many early memories of that place! My dad was very involved in both the George Benson and Steve Vai years

It would be great to get some interviews with him. That is an amazing part of ibanez history and im sure ibanez fans would be very interested. Especially if he has some photos from the era!

Great video - thanks guys! Ibanez really gave birth to the "superstrat" and popularized more than 6 string guitars with the UV..

His English is way better than the auto - translation, at 9:14 he says "guitarist to be an Ibanez endorser" and it reads "interest to be a hibernative daughter" !

Thanks for such awesome interview. great questions! I just got a 1999 JEM DBK , I am very impressed with the bridge stability , the frets are still level and that thin neck very stable. That rear mounted locking is still rock solid. The trem arm is much lower than the Floyd Rose arm, easy to hold between fingers when doing arpeggios. Well done ibanez team!

What a great video! The Edge vibrato is their claim to fame, it really set their guitars apart, not only does it function better than everything else out there, but it also looks SO much nicer than the Original Floyd and its copies. The Floyds look like they are made out of stamped steel, the Edge looks like a finely casted part with precision knife edges installed IN the baseplate. I can't stand the primitive original floyd design. Also, the RG, Radius, and S series are really some of the best modern guitar designs ever conceived, I would love to get an interview of the people that came up with the Radius and Saber guitars. Those shapes were so ahead of their time, and honestly, to me, just as classic and revolutionary as the Strat or Les Paul. One lament, Ibanez used to have the Wizard, and the slightly thicker, Ultra neck...for some reason they seem to have dropped the Ultra neck on nearly all modern electric guitar models, that neck was fantastic, most people actually prefer that neck, even shredders....but then, the super-thin Wizard was their famous, unparalleled design, so I kind of get why everything shifted towards using that iconic neck shape.

This was awesome. Thank you! So interesting that Vai, Satriani, and Gilbert saved Ibanez. Those three (along with MacAlpine & Malmsteen) were my heroes in the 80s, and the reason I started getting into Ibanez. At the time as a teenager, I just thought Ibanez was this big guitar company with cool shredder endorsed guitars. Had no idea they were struggling. BTW, the custom guitar that Ibanez & Steve based the iconic Jem after must have been similar to the Grover Jackson built Charvel “Green Meanie”. Shown here: d2emr0qhzqfj88.cloudfront.net/s3fs-public/2020-11/TheBirthOfTheGreenMeanie.pdf This history lesson is so cool.

i don't know why this video is titled true history of Ibanez when it doesn't mention a single thing about how Ibanez were originally Spanish made flamenco guitars or even that Ibanez - properly spelled Ibanèz - was the individuals surname who made the guitar
