Another true story. Margaret Mitchell had a relative that lived next door to my great grandparents. She went to visit that relative for the summer when she was in her early teen years. She babysat my grandmother one afternoon. My grandma's name was Katie O'Hara White.

There is a local story in Lusmagh, near Birr, Co. Offaly - her ancestors came from there. I wonder when this branch of the Mitchell family emigrated to USA? The area is close to the EISCIR (an ancient natural high road which crosses the middle of Ireland) - in ancient times - ALL ROADS LEAD TO TARA!

@@cindyjones233 , well, I'll tell you. She was a very short woman who married a very tall man who had lived with his family on the neighboring farm. They had 5 children, my mother was their middle child. When I was born she lived on a small farm on the outskirts of a small town where she raised a huge garden every summer, canned all the veggies using an old wood cook stove, used an old ringer washing machine, had horses, cows, pigs, sheep, and rabbits, and a pear orchard on the farm. A few years later my grandparents bought a store in another small town that was closest to the farms they grew up on. That store was half grocery store, half hardware store and their motto, printed on pencils and matchbooks that they gave away, was. "If you're satisfied tell others, if you're not, tell us." I won't tell you all of her story but I'll end by saying that at her funeral I heard it said by many of our relatives and friends that, "Katy went to the grave with 9 cents out of every dime she and her husband had ever earned."

My mother in-law was 8 years old when the movie was made, she once told me (while we sat on the porch peeling potatoes) that when the movie premiered in her area that it was (her quote) "Such a magical time for me because it was the very first "picture show" that I ever saw". I enjoyed listening to her tell me all about her first time in a movie theater and the peanuts, popcorn and tea that she took with her to eat and drink during the show. She told me a lot more to this story (too much to list here though. lol). We peeled, I listened and she talked and talked all about it, she was 78 years old when she was telling me about all of her adventures during that time and it was fascinating, I could have listened to her talk about (as she put it) The Olden Days. She's gone now but I have those memories of her!! My mom used to tell me stories much the same way as my mother in-law did as well. I dearly love and miss both my mother and my mother in-law tremendously and all the stories that they told, all the history of the south, awesome times!!!! #RIP Mom and #RIPMillie ... Your both Fondly thought of, Tremendously missed and dearly Loved, always! ♥♥♥♥

My Gf works at a nursing home. She gets to talk to some fascinating people. They want to tell there stories. They get to relive the memories and pass on a part of themselves. I wonder if someone has a channel that goes to interview them? That needs to happen. You do know you can volunteer at one of these houses of wisdom. There being pushed out of our society like these old Hollywood homes. It's a damned shame. I'ma see if I can't go and collect some of these lives. I think they would like that. She has a golden glove boxer as a resident, watch for it. Should be good. Might have to zoom cause of covid. Thanks for your story, sparked a great idea.

This is ABSOLUTELY fascinating. I remember reading, a long time ago, that Betty Talmadge was trying to save the facade of Tara. This was EXTREMELY interesting to watch. You would think that the Hollywood Oscar community would be pitching in to help to save this stuff. This is, by far, the most important stuff that still survives from the most important movie ever made!!! Look at how many awards it won!!! And the important people who were involved in it! Hollywood needs to get off of their butts and make sure they save this stuff!!! It ABSOLUTELY needs to be in a museum and taken care of before it disintegrates!!! FANTASTIC VLOG!!!

Has a HUGE collection of old Hollywood that is run by her son and his wife. Jordan did a 3 part series - check it out! There was so much " stuff" I could have spent a week in just one room!

Read the book in 1966 and after I told my mom, “They should make this into a movie.” She told me that they did and that Clark Gable was Rhett Butler. This was before videos or cds. They had a rerelease of the movie on the big screen in 1967. I was in heaven when mom took me to see it. It didn’t disappoint.

While I was servicing a VHS video store back when they first became popular they had tapes of Gone With The Wind for $250. The popularity of the VHS was so big the prices dropped dramatically.

I had my great-grandmother until I was 25 yrs old. Her in-laws lived through the war, and when she was younger she was a companion to an aunt who was a teen during the war. I have real stories. Lots of death, starvation & destruction. In 1973 or 4 GWTW came through our town and the 7th grade classes went from school to see it.

How fortunate that your mom exposed you to such great things for example: music, movies, sports, museums, and I would guess travel. I am sorry that you lost your father at a young age but, you were blessed with a wonderful Grandfather who I enjoy seeing. We all benefit by your knowledge and appreciate it. When I was about 13 or 14 I met Mr. Stephens Mitchell and had the opportunity to tell him that I thoroughly enjoyed GWTW. Although he was an elderly man in his 70s then he still maintained his law office in downtown Atlanta, where I interviewed him.

I went to a barbecue at the Talmadge home when Betty was alive. She actually told me the stories about the house, the columns. One of interesting items in the house was a huge picture of a pig hanging in one room with ham sacks made into throw pillows on the sofa. So cute. It was a lovely event and her stories were fascinating. She told me they also hid valuables, like silver in the columns. So much history. Her grandson had a little pig in a leash with a red bow around its neck. Adorable. My husband and I also worked with Historical Jonesboro back in the 80's. Tara Harvest Ball was amazing. We have so many photos. My husband and I actually hung the shutters on Stately Oaks.

He's the Epitome of a Southerner. A little crazy and funny but will give you the shirt off their back if you need it. Thats how we are raised. He's a great story teller! WOW! This is terrific. I met three people who were in the movie -- Junior Coghlan, Cammie King and Butterfly McQueen. My great-great grandfather fought for the Confederacy and survived. His brother died in the war and kept a diary which was later transcribed. And we are related to Alexander Stephens, the vice=president of the Confederacy. Thanx for posting !

I haven’t taken the time to watch the entire video but I have to tell you once I heard this was the talmadge estate I was so excited! We got to meet Betty Talmadge in the 1990’s! Her home was open for tours and she was selling her autographed cookbooks! On the estate she had a pen with a small coop for her pet turkeys! What a trip. What memories. Thank you, Jordan Lee!

The old mill by a river that is shown for about 4 seconds during the credits of Gone With the Wind is on a branch of the Arkansas River in North Little Rock. My children, who all graduated from high school in Arkansas had their senior pictures taken at the Old Mill.

The old Mill is not on the Arkansas River. It is in the Lakewood subdivision in North Little Rock. Was used for many years for NLR High School Senior pictures, but no more. Still a popular spot for brides and weddings.

As many times as I've been to the TR Pugh Memorial Park and the Old Mill you would think I'd be more aware of the fact that it is north of the Arkansas River and that it is on a lake with rushing water that just feels like a river. I knew the only major river there was the Arkansas so I assumed without looking at a map. My kids graduated in the early 2000's from Bryant High School and their Sr pictures have always been a treasured keepsake.

Jordan, my hats off to you for this video. I am SO jealous! I was actually there in March and tried to get up with him but he couldn't get a tour together so I didn't get to go. Atlanta is my home! GWTW is my FAVORITE movie. He knows this. I even have a movie prop and have visited one museum and plan to visit the other. I am gutted to find out the reason I couldn't go was because as he described it was " family turmoil". I guess the result was selling it. Again, gutted. At least I will get to see it on this video. 🦁 Jordan, WOW!!! This site is just BEAUTIFUL and romantical. WOW! Sending a huge Thank You to the gentleman whom let you vlog. Wow how informative. I have always loved Gone With The Wind and could listen to this man tell about the period it was written in and the making of the movie for hours. He really knows the history and tells it so fascinatingly. To answer his question about the filming process regarding Tara's distressed condition, in film making if a building has to go through nice and distressed periods they will film the nice period parts first and then distress the building for the filming of those parts. It is much simpler and easier to do it that way. This is why Tara is in it's distressed condition, as those were filmed last. This is exactly how they did Hill Valley for Back To The Future when it went from the nice 50's period to the more rundown 80's.

I LOVE GWTW! My family is from the South. My Grandmother and Grandfather moved up North here in the 1950's so he could work at Bethlehem Steel yard in Baltimore MD where I'm of course from. Thanks for this travel to make this video!
