As a Prince and an Eko Royal Descendant, Thus is the true narrative. Another big fact that will knock the lies that Eko belongs to the Awori is this, if they were the 1st and the original settlers; why were the aworis or yorubas not the Royal household. Why were the paying tributes to Oba of Benin? Eko; the Laos Island was founded and named by the Binis. Period, no controversy.

Ahmodu Tijani, a direct descendant of the founder of Lagos and Oluwa of Lagos. In the 1920's.... He took the British to court to protest the 1861 treaty of the British with Dosumu, arguing the the representative of the Oba of Benin at no time had rights to the Lands of Lagos and it was not his to give away..... A case he won based on historical evidence showing that the Idejo chiefs of Yoruba descent had always been the landowners of Lagos..... There is one reason why Yoruba people don't gloat over lands they held historical stakes in but not their ancestral lands..... This is because we are blessed with expanse of lands that are very fertile and a large sea coast.... Even when some of our lands were taken and annexed into other regions, we were still ok with it..... but if we were to talk historically as is being said about Lagos, then Benin and Onitsha both belong to Yoruba people..... Any documentary or research , which does not make a reference to critical document like this, is a terrible way of twisting the truth. The prince that founded Benin was called Eweka, he was the son of Oranmiyan who once ruled the people of the region. he founded this city because the most important nobility at Igodomigodo was hostile to the new alien dynasty from Ife and refused for him to rule from the main capital. He had to pay them for the right to lease the territory he ruled from. from this new capital, he built a kingdom designed along Yoruba spirituality like Tegbessou of Dahomey did. for many centuries, Benin paid homage to Ife as its source of leadership and spirituality until the arrival of the Birtish. This is known fact of history before the many interesting revisionist stories natives of Benin engage in today to hide a terrible complex that have about how much they owe the Yoruba people for the advancement as a nation starting from the second dynasty..... Before British or portuguese or Benin people ever came to trade in lagos, the original yoruba people have settled and lived in that area as the owner. MOST OF THE HISTORIANS AND DOCUMENT MAKERS OF TODAY WERE NOT YET BORN AS AT THE TIME OF THE JUDGEMENT. IT IS CRAZY LIVING IN A CENTURY ONLY RUNNED BY LIES I am ready to forward a copy of the court judgement to anybody who wants it here. ANYBODY FROM BENIN CLAIMING OWNERSHIP OF LAGOS IS A FRAUDSTER. EVEN, THE LAGOS ISLAND WAS A PIECE OF LAND LEASED TO OBA OF LAGOS BY THE IDEJOS( YORUBAS FROM THE MAINLAND SOUTHWEST), AND THIS WAS THE REASON OBA OF LAGOS WAS SUED IN LONDON FOR UNILATERALLY GIVING OUT A PIECE OF THE LAND OUT TO OUR COLONIAL MASTERS WITHOUT CONSULTING THE LAND OWNERS. THE CASE FOR WHICH OBA OF BENIN DID NOT HAVE ANY VALID DEFENCE BECAUSE ALL EVIDENCES REVEALED HE WAS JUST ALLOWED TO TRADE ON THAT LAND. TILL TODAY; NOBODY HAS CONTESTED THAT JUDGEMENT SINCE 1921 Let anybody who wants to make videos or read the truth click the link below to read the court judgement on the lagos ownership. STOP LIES . GO TO THAT COURT IN LONDON TO VERIFY THIS PAPER OF KEEP QUIET www.researchgate.net/publication/331635176_THE_LONDON_PRIVY_COUNCIL_JUDGEMENT_OF_11_JULY_1921_CONFIRMING_YORUBA_OWNERSHIP_OF_LAGOS_NOT_BENIN_OR_IGBO_OWNERSHIP_AS_BEING_TOUTED/link/5c83f9b4299bf1268d4c6e42/download The link below will lead you all to the statement of Oba of Lagos denying his earlier statement on ownership of lagos linked to benin. This reminds me of the Falklands Islands war between Britain and Argentina. Islands are usually beautiful and attracts visitors for tourism and trade. Foreigners and people from communities around will come and trade which is normal. Also some visitors both foreign and local after some time will decide to settle around the coast to facilitate direct and quicker trade opportunities rather than their usual trips back and forth their local communities and countries. In most cases, they relate very well merging different cultures and traditions, marry themselves and have children born and bred in the merged cultures and traditions. The older generation, having had children who can fend for themselves often return to their people and families back home. If there are no disputes among the settlers, there wont be any reason to document or sign any agreement. However, if there is dispute of any sort, the more powerful group will dominate the others. The new breed cannot go back as they do not really know much of their background unless the parents deliberately informed them. Most Islands are originally occupied by small fishing communities, who would disappear as foreigners and other community start settling amongst them. They have their unique way of life. It is unfortunate that history in Nigeria rather than serve the purpose of educating people about their past, culture and traditions, is being used as a means of claiming & bragging rights. People come up with cock and bull stories and make a few references here and there to back up the fables. In actual fact it is of no significance these days because the consistent history people always believed have been disputed, and concocted for selfish reasons mostly. You believe what you chose to believe. I think the historian here has done well, i cannot say all he presented are accurate as i have read and listened to other versions.

I found it difficult to believe the Aworis were predominantly mainland dwellers. Oral history claimed they were also riverine fishermen who lived and practice their trade (fishing) from the coast of Badagry all the way to Ijebu waterside and eastward beyond. They were the original inhabitant of 'Eko'. The Southward and Westward expansion of Oyo empire may have subjugated and absorbed them into part of Yoruba empire. Given Ife history, it is hard to believe Oduduwa was from Benin despite revisionist attempts to rewrite his story.

@@dr.chrisa.maikarfi5289 you spoke well, i love history too but lets put history aside.... cos spiritually i don't think that land is founded by the benin people in anyway at all. But we are all humans and we are meant to believe anything that we are been told but not all humans are blessed with the same spirituality. Those lands are owned and founded by my fore fathers the yorubas including the Egun, Awories, egba and the badagry people close to the border to benin republic. But anybody can say what they like with their mouth cos its a free world. Just that most Edo's are prone to probably steal or tell lies, its somehow in their blood DNA. Well, I feel the Benin stories are very detailed and that is what the Yoruba stories don’t have, but I will like to point that, you shud misjudge the authenticity of Yoruba stories as around all lies, you will find the real truth... Yes I have heard about the story of Benin being the first to settle in Eko and I don’t think Eko has a meaning in Yoruba... I will need answers to some questions, while Eko was founded by Benin, what happened to the shores of Ondo(which is close to Benin), Epe which is close to Eko, because these two places are coastlines like Eko and are adjacent to Eko, why weren’t this places founded/taken by the Benin’s? What I will like to chip in is, part of the important things that determines history of a place is the LANGUAGE... a related place (is eg Ondo, Oyo and Ijebu) have very related language, infact they are dialects and the these places are far from each other just as Benin is far from these places, why are they not speaking different languages? Why is Eko speaking Yoruba and not partly Benin just the way Awori is speaking partly Yoruba and Benin, atleast as you have said which I don’t believe tho? My point is, Eko might have have been VISITED by Benin before and NOT found it and the reason could be that they met people there who accommodated them and so on... Yorubas are widely known of accommodating strangers , so I feel that’s what played out... In conclusion, Benin and Yoruba have many similarities while Benin has very rich culture... Personally, I will believe, Oduduwa came from Benin to Ile Ife where he met people already dwelling in the land and have their own language(which is still spoken till today(but discrete). Oduduwa left Benin to be celebrated in Ife and in a way regained his rule (now as Ooni Ife) in Benin which made Benin to be part of Yoruba if I must say...I know this truth is bitter but it has to be said...

If the Bini founded Lagos, how come Bini language is not spoken in Lagos? Why is it that it is Yoruba that is spoken in Lagos? The truth is that the Awori led by Ogunfunminire settled at Isheri and from there spread downward to the sea and established Eko. Ogunfunminire was not a king. He simply led the people from Ile-Ife. The influence of Bini was only in the area of Obaship because having found the Awori unorganized when they came, the Bini established the Obaship for them and sent a representative to rule them. Talking about ownership, the land actually belonged to the Awori who were the original settlers since they settled there first. Most of the narratives in the video are false and self-serving. The Binis did not found Lagos (Eko) The Awori are bonafide Yoruba like the Oyo, Osun, Ijesha, Ekiti, etc whose ancestry is traceable to Oduduwa of Ile-Ife. In fact Bini itself was established by one of the sons of Oduduwa, although the Binis cleverly try to excise that fact from their own history. The interviewer never invited a single Awori person for their view but assembled ethnically biased people to change the narratives wholly in favour of Binis. Funny enough they even tried to deny Awori as Yoruba. The video is a mishmash of truth, half-truths and outright falsehood that should never be cited as authentic version of the ownership of Eko. Till today there are still Awori in all the seven islands on the lagoon, not a single hamlet is a Bini settlement.
@ayosogunro1 Жыл бұрын
More questions: Dd the Binis establish it and run away? Were they driven away by the Awori? Does paying a tribute to an Oba elsewhere (if at all) transfer the ownership of the land to the distant King? The influence of the Binis is undeniably present in the area of Eko Obaship. What cultural artefacts (such as food, dress, language, etc) among the Awori (or at Eko) are traceable to the Binis? Admitting without conceding that the Binis established Lagos. If they eventually left (as they actually did), leaving the Awori behind who have continuously occupied the space for centuries hitherto, can the same Bini return to claim ownership? Is it not commonsense to attribute ownership to continuous occupier for centuries and till date? Was Nigeria not colonised by Britain and ruled over it for a hundred years? Does that make Britain the founder and owner of Nigeria? All truths are parallel! Eko (Lagos) was founded by the Awori that spread from Isheri to other parts including Isolo, Otto, Ijanikin, Iba to mention a few ìn Lagos. The land of Awori also extends to Otta and Ado-Odo in Ogun State with numerous villages and settlements everywhere. All these facts firmly support Eko as an Awori indigenous settlement before the arrival of the British.

I can not blame the people in this video ,you people are from Benin so there is nothing wrong if you people tell lies in favour of your peope.How could Benin people jumped into to the middle of Yoruba land to own a small piece of land inside Yoruba land,while leaving Ijebu,Ibadan,Ikeja,Epe,Ikorodu.,Elegushi,Agege and the rest if it is true that they were the first people in that territory because am hundred percent sure that it is not possible because the people who are already in that territory are already in lagos.Before lagos became a mega city it was only the Yoruba people claiming Lagos,so you Benin people can not say they should not be the only one claiming what belongs to them,because I do not know where you Benin people were when the Yoruba people were building Lagos until Lagos developed to this extent,if you people were interested in the development of Lagos.Lagos has always been a Yoruba land and the Benin people have no inheritance in Lagos.The Aworis are the only people who have the right of ownership in Lagos,all the local governments in Lagos has always been Awori local governments for decades,so where are you Benin people all these years.You people better stop your fake stories,it will not changed the fact that the Aworis owned Lagos.It has been in the constitution for decades that Lagos is a Yoruba land because that is the truth and your fake stories can not change the fact so why are people wasting your time by cooking up fake stories to deceive yourselves and continue to waste your time with meaningless stories
