The cut is extremely important. The better the cut and the better it's executed, the more light will shine through. The weight is overly focused because it decides how deep the diamond will sit in a ring but the top front of the diamond will usually be roughly the same size.

Is it possible to explain the difference between different trademarked ideal certifications, like True Hearts and Astor Ideal and Super Ideal?

Different companies call their top cut diamonds differently but honestly I have seen that Brilliant Earth’s super ideal is not a true super ideal. Go to Beyond 4Cs to learn about the proportions too. After they meet the general 4Cs and proportions from Beyond 4Cs, only then is it ready to examine with 360 view and ideal / aset scope if necessary. Unfortunately I am in a rush to buy it so I am grateful to know about this brown paper test because I don’t have an ideal scope and jewelry store lighting is very tricky

not sure if this test is accurate. back of your hand is brighter on the right side as well - meaning there was more light on the right side to start with.

I’m dealing with this currently comparing a 1.5 with a 2 carat Both are the same grade but the 1.5 is a much more beautiful stone

which one did you choose in the end? honestly often times the bigger the stone the harder it is to hide flaws (depending on the cut too) radiant cuts are better than hiding flaws while emerald and asscher cuts have a lot of mirrors that shows flaws easily. Radiant cuts (good) can make a diamond bigger than it really is and usually you can get away with half a carat easily :)

If you buy from Tiffany you certainly deserve the ripoff clip joint deals they offer.

This is a common cross road for choosing quality or quantity. If the difference is easily noticeable always take Beauty over Big.
