Russell, 6-year old Kelpie, is extremely anxious during wind, rain or stormy weather. By using The Trust Technique he is learning to overcome his condition.
Here's the link to my blog article about fear of thunder and other noise sensitivities I mention in the video: www.thedependablecompanion.co...
The Trust Technique is a method of reducing animal's thinking levels to promote trust, connection, confidence and communication. Another way of saying "thinking levels" is "states of mind". Applying The Trust Technique facilitates a process of letting go so that anxiety, fear, over-excitement, frustration and any other form of overthinking can reduce and dissipate. It's like taking off the overthinking glasses (how the animal perceives the world) and replacing them with calm and peaceful glasses. Behaviour cued by overthinking is different than behaviour cued by calmness. The Trust Technique is easy and simple to learn. Of course, it needs commitment to practicing and applying it. People usually find the practice very enjoyable and rewarding.
A really great and detailed introduction is their mini-course called Messages of Trust. It's 90 minutes worth of videos and costs $ 10. The first part actually is free to watch. If you are interested and decide to purchase the Messages of Trust, please, use my affiliate link to do so:

Oh Mia this is so generous of you to share with us, the journey to peacefulness of gorgeous Russell with the Trust Technique. It is wonderful to see how much he has progressed and how every doggy twitch or movement or breathing pattern etc. is a language to interpret. He was so stressed at the beginning it's amazing to see how far he has already come with your skilled, patient, present, and gentle 'midwifing' of him in real time, during the storm! Thank you, so beautiful, I hope for more TT videos some time.

Though I see the wonderful effects of the Trust Technique every day, to help a dog in such a state to find calmness was a special moment.

Thank you for sharing with us. I love watching you in process with the different animals. What I am curious of is how this work has been for you in your own life..how it has impacted you. No pressure to share if it doesn't feel right! It is maybe quite a personal question.. I have no animals at home, unfortunately.. but a nervous system that is quite in unbalance resulting in much chronic pain. What is so interesting to me, is that I can relate so much to these animals that you have filmed, and actually care for my nervous system and pains like they would be an animal. Being there in a nonreactive way...

Hello Johanne, thank you for your observations and letting me know that you enjoy watching my videos. The Trust Technique has changed my life. It's empowering in the relationships with my own dogs as well as my capacity to help other people and their animals with issue where previously I couldn't because 'training methods' have serious limitations, especially when it comes to helping anxious behaviours. I have become so much more patient - with others and myself. My emotional intelligence has evolved, being a highly sensitive person I used to get very overwhelmed or easily drawn into other's pain or any kind of suffering. Practicing the Trust Technique has lead me to studying Polyvagal Theory (an understanding of how nervous systems work developed by Dr Stephen Porges) and I have come to realise that the Trust Technique teaches humans how to help co-regulate their dysregulated animals until they learn how to self-regulate. It has also offered me additional tools to support people who are so triggered by their animals behaviours that they are in dysregulation (which is a state in which you can not help anyone else). I can highly recommend Kimberly Ann Johnson's book 'Call of the Wild'. Yes, this witnessing presence, this being ok with whatever is ... is very powerful. Eckhart Tolle's book 'The Power of Now' describes that beautifully. I find his insights about 'the pain body' very helpful. It can be difficult to 'just be' with pain of any kind - physical, emotional, mental, spiritual. We humans have such a strong urge to 'want to fix' ... I believe it's an expression of our deep caring, however, it's not effective and often actually creates suffering. Cultivating a witnessing presence brings peace ... even when nothing can be done to fix such at the end of life. When my dog Louie had a stroke I found 'animal hospice care' which is allowing animals to die at their own pace - neither rushing, nor drawing it out. Being ok with his physical deterioration was a valuable teacher. Discerning between discomfort/pain and suffering gave me the capacity to work through my own fears and worries and allow Louie's last gift to me unfold fully. I've written about my experiences and how now I am supporting others at the end of their animal's life in my blog. Here is the link, you can just click on the category 'animal hospice care' to find all my articles on the topic. www.thedependablecompanion.com.au/blog/ I hope this answered your question. Thank you for asking. If I ever can support you in any way feel free to email me: mia@thedependablecompanion.com.au

@@unhurried2023 Thank you so much Mia. So beautiful to hear how it has influenced also your own life.. It was exactly what I was amazed by, how much it relates to what I've been learning about trauma healing, regulation, polyvagal theory. Yes, Echart Tolle also.. i love how I observe there is the same core to all these different entrances to healing. Letting be, not forcing, trusting the process, letting it unfold in every single beings own time... Also so touching to read about your experience with animals at the end of their life. Getting to befriend death and our reactions to it I think is a big learning.. Thank you again for meeting me here! I feel grateful and touched by it ❤️

@@anth115 Thanks for asking. Here is a link to a Facebook post about Russell earlier this year: m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=7032592193482905&id=1125404370868413 He has improved tremendously. Though still not a fan of thunderstorms and rain, his family told me that now he just takes himself to his bed, curls up and stays there for the duration of it. And afterwards, it's just done. He no longer is jumpy and anxious for the following 24 hours.

Can't decide if the person making noise in background washing Dishes is part of the Technique and intentional? i.e. Dog hearing a familiar & normal Activity? A distraction?
@unhurried2023
@unhurried2023 2 жыл бұрын
The washing of the dishes noise in the background was not part of the setup. If this sound would have distracted Russell, I would have asked for it to stop because when working with the Trust Technique the most peaceful space possible will be the most conducive. The rattling of the dishes was not a trigger in any way but just part of the usual soundscape that doesn't even get noticed anymore. I hope that clarifies your questions.

This is my first video/introduction to the technique and to be honest I couldn't carry on watching.. I've seen the promotional videos and there was complete calm & stillness but because the person here in the background was making so much noise clattering around that it took away the sense of calm & stillness. Not sure if the noise matters but sadly this was not for me.

Hi Kat, you might want to check out other videos before you throw out the baby with the bathwater. The calm and stillness Russell reached in the end is transformational. I am sorry the background noise distracted you. The video is capturing a real life moment when a freaked out animal received help to heal. Since thunderstorms come and go as they please, I worked with what the moment presented. In my mind, this is more remarkable than if the environment had been completely serene and quiet. Life is not always serene and quiet. Practicing the Trust Technique in a calm and still environment is beautiful and deepens your relationship. In this video, I built on the practices he had done previously (with me and at home with his family) to help Russell starting to overcome his fears. The clattering of the dishes in the background was nothing compared to the noise of the thunder which was not captured by the microphone. And in spite of all of it, there was healing and more peace.

If the brain of a traumatized animal is simple and using the technique the wonderful animal can be healed, on the other hand a traumatized and conscious human being, with a more complex brain, how could it be healed?
