I'm under contract on a home in Rio Rancho, NM...which has an above ground pool. My parents have had one for the last 10 years and it truly is a labor of love for the grand kiddos....looking through these videos and wondering if I have that same passion. 😬 Looks like I have a lot to learn! Thanks for the videos! Much appreciated for this first timer.

I have a 10x30 and I leveled the ground by myself with a shovel, a board and a level. Needless to say, I didn't do an awesome job. I got it so I had less than an inch difference. But that was after 3 years of trial and error. It was an easy set pool and I turned it each year so the low side was pushing on a different part of the pool. It was fine. Definitely a ground cloth of some sort helps a lot. I find it pretty necessary. The leveling was the hard part but I had only an 11 ft circle to do. I used sand under the pool and it was nice under our feet, but washed out every rain storm. Fill dirt worked much better. Sand is fine for padding, not for leveling!! Did you get someone to show up and level your site?

I have Bestway 20’x12’ 48” deep but it came with a nice sand filter. So far for the past month it stays crystal clear. Brush and use a water jet vacuum on a pole that just squirts debris into a mesh bag but it’s great. I think you might try to pay more attention to the landscape around the pool. If nothing else just some quality weed barrier. Try to keep as much dirt transfer from your feet to the inside of the pool. I haven’t done anything other than weed barrier around my pool and that helps a ton. The rest of my backyard is concrete and landscaped with grass. The area where our pool is located was a playground with bark once I removed all that stuff it was bare dirt so I covered it with barrier with plans to put synthetic grass next year but I’m already eyeballing a bigger Intex 12’x24’x52” 😂

you could probably keep your pool cleaner if you put some kind of boarder around your pool so people are not stepping right from the dirt into your pool.

I had an above ground softsided pool for 15 years was definitely a labor of love ..... It was the Legacy Portable pool that ended up going out of business. I only purchased the pool online and did everything else myself ..... I thought not bad for a women ... but I had a kiddo who I had to keep entertained in the pool. I ended up moving in with my partner and had to remove the pool when I rented my house out >>> Liability with insurance company. Anyways I ended up moving back in my home and although my daughter all grown up and on her own ...... we have water dogs and next thing you know I am out on facebook looking for a used similar pool and found one. Going to be alot of work.....needs a new filter (cracked), new pump this one does look to good, and going to end up replacing the entire skimmer assembly (its a used splash pool that will become an air dog training pool). To say the least needs a lot of work to get back up and running ....... but these liners and pools are good for a lot of years and do take a bit of abuse which will be needed for the dogs. When I did mine I liked using a copper type system to cut back on the chlorine for the kids and the dogs, it worked like a charm I will be looking to do somewhat the same ..... this time though I am thinking of maybe using a floater type where you can put in and out of pool as you get a build up. As far as chlorine use I only used a floater and it was enough until you got to the really hot weather then I would just shock it .... actually using just a concentrated clorine solution you use for your washing machine. The pool was basically easy to keep up chemically ..... filter filter filter mainly to keep it clean. Loved watching your video it is very helpful for getting started back up ....... I am looking at some of your links Thank you.
@hubbabubba5177 Жыл бұрын
Please be careful using a copper system, as it's VERY easy to let it get away from you. Increased copper levels are bad for you, your dogs, your equipment, and your liner

I'd really like to put an ungrounded pool in for my son, and my daughter when she visits but it looks like it's more trouble than it's worth. We did have one at our last place (it's was my wife's project) and that thing was a complete nightmare! We do live close to the beach ⛱️ so trying to figure if it's worth the maintenance. Down side is you can't boogie board in a pool😂
@ArthurV106 ай бұрын
There actually is an automatic pool cleaner that will suck up A LOT of debris from the bottom of the pool. It attached to the filter outlet and runs exactly like a cleaning robot. It has a very fine mesh and traps about 80-90% of the dirt, and it's less then 100$, don't remember the model but it looks like a retro space-car. There is also a more expensive version that has a brush that also climbs side walls, but I have not tried that...

I've had intex pools for over 10 years (they're similar). It really is a struggle. I've been enjoying it less but the kids have been enjoying it more and more every year, so it's really a labor of love. I let it go real bad this year as we got really into camping, so I'm not looking forward to the nightmare ahead of us this spring. We keep saying we want a real above ground pool and I want a salt water system with the price of chlorine, but looking at the budget and we've got big trips planned this spring and summer... I don't think so... Just gonna make it work again. I usually spend an entire weekend with the pool completely drained scrubbing the bottom as well as I can to get rid of the muck. We've not found an affordable cover that works, they all fall in with millions of leaves. I'm sure there's high quality covers that might work, but I'm not a high quality kinda guy, except for our vehicles. Always enjoy your hot takes, I'll keep any eye on your channel!

How much hp does that pump have or how much would you need for that size of pool?
@hubbabubba5177 Жыл бұрын
General rule of thumb is 1hp per 10,000 gallons. So if your pool is 5,000 (most of these are around there) shoot for a .5hp Always better to be a little oversized than a little undersized as well

@jeffreygifford10154 ай бұрын
my brother claims these are $ pits and a lot of work. From alkaline testing to vacuuming and crap stock filters and water pumps. I got a cheap one just to try out because I used to be a swimmer in high school and missed feel of water and smell of chlorine and just seemed like good idea when it gets hot as hell out to turn shit off and head out to pool and chill. Just a 10 by 30 as test pool and seeing it as lot of work right now and debating if want to go further into hobby so looking at vids for info and issues with buildup in bottom starting to see already as an issue and heard rumors about chem burns also so might have to drain thing and rethink it a bit before get too deep as isn't quite level either...definitely seems like lot of work and time and $.
