Both boxers failed eligibility criteria of the IBA on TWO separate occasions (Istanbul 2022, New Delhi 2023). Although IBA cannot disclose the actual test results due to them being protected health information, their criteria for gender definition are quite simple - XX = girl, XY = boy. This does NOT include external genitalia which sometimes, although rarely, does not match up with chromosomal sex. The boxers passports and birth certificates are useless in determining their sex. If they are 46 XY, 47XXY or 47 XYY they should not be allowed to compete with "biological women". They will have dangerous and unfair strength differences regardless of what their external genitalia looks like.

To begin, I am a neonatologist (intensive care for babies) - We routinely send karyotypes along with ultrasounds and other tests to determine sex when it isn't clear by physical exam alone. Although it doesn't happen often, external genitalia can be ambiguous (you can't tell if you have a boy or girl just by looking). Sexual differentiation happens first at chromosomal level (XX or XY). If you have a Y chromosome, undifferentiated gonads during embryologic development WILL become testicles. This is referred to as gonadal sex. Finally, you have phenotypic sex - what you LOOK like on exam. The presence of male or female gonads usually influences what structures develop, however, you can definitely be 46 XY (chromosomal male) with female or ambiguous genitalia.

Firstly the medical executive has stated "The problem is that we have two blood exams with karyotype of male. This is the answer from the laboratory." . Then as a result of the two failed tests the IBA made these rule clarifications to achieve this outcome. You have to be in self denial to pretend they just found "something" in the blood work. "On 12 May 2023, IBA amended its Technical and Competition Rules. After internal discussion, it was decided by the Board of Directors that IBA competitions will be conducted only between male athletes and between female athletes. Participation of DSD athletes (“differences of sexual development”) in boxing competitions were found dangerous for health and security of the boxers. Definition of Men/Male/Boy = individual with chromosome XY. Definition of Women/Female/Girl = individual with chromosome XX Rule 4.2. Eligibility on Gender: 4.2.1.Boxers will compete against boxers of the same gender, meaning Women vs Women and Men vs Men as per the definitions of these Rules."

The results that were brought out were inconsistent, further to which there’s been a number of questions as to why. “We go to the female World Championships that took place between 15 and 26 March [in 2023 in India]. That happened, and on 23 March the results came through, and it demonstrated the chromosomes that we referred to within the competition rules - that make both boxers ineligible" They are not allowed to state directly that someone is XY chromosome as that is sharing private medical records - All they can do is say a person has failed a test looking for such things and people can read into that.

No Chael. Imane did not appeal the IBA's decision in order to get into the Olympics . The appeal to the IBA was dropped by Imane before it was decided. The IBA banned Imane from IBA events, but the IBA does not determine entry to the Olympics. The IOC did an entirely separate test to allow Imane into the Olympics - there was no appeal. Imane is still banned from IBA events. The IOC is not a higher authority than the IBA. If anything, the IOC is smaller, because it only has jurisdiction over the Olympics, which only happens every 4 years, whereas the IBA oversees events all over yhe world all year round. Sure these events may not individually be as prestigious as the Olympics, but the IOCs decisions do not override the IBAs or apply in the same context

I'm personally Algerian and I know this athlete since she was young because I'm a former world champion myself and I know what was that "thing", they just find a higher level of testosterone. It is super important to note that the IBA made it's decision after Imane beat a Russian boxer. The IBA also has very close ties to the Kremlin. The IBA has also not provided any actual proof, just a statement that equates to a "trust me bro" argument. at least IBA is offering up a way to classify Men and Women. IOC doesnt have a definition. A passport should not be used as a way to determine whether someone is truly male or female. IOC is playing God.

Thanks for asking people to be less gullible. For the sake of argument, imagine the test _did_ show XY chromosomes. This is a young woman raised female her whole life and people are flooding on social media using “he” and calling her male. That is psychologically devastating. She has trained her whole life for this and has done nothing wrong. I have every sympathy for her.

My understanding was they gave a copy of the results to both girls and to the ioc. They can't release them publicly. I think its possible the results are fake because you never know but its astounding the ioc did not retest them with a these results if they thought they were fake.
