Hi is the salary enough to save a little each month? 200-400USD if you don't eat out a lot, assuming a cell phone bill and a minimal student loan payment, I have heard that it's not enough to cover basic things just trying to get clarification@@MaurieProffit

I worked in Seoul as an English Teacher with Kindergarden back in the early 2000's, it looks like things haven't changed much lol. Those classes can be absolutely exhausting, and very stressful physically as well as emotionally. I am so glad I did it, I have many happy memories of my years there and I met some amazing people. I miss it sometimes even now, but I couldn't deal with those classes and that schedule now! The kids can be really cute but they're still kids. Hope you enjoy your time there, there's so much to see and do, and stay strong, you are not alone 😀

Hi Anne, I will start my first year soon but have a choice between kindergarten, elementary (6th grade) and elementary to middle school (9th grade students). Which of the three do you in you in your opinion believe is least stressful for a first-time teacher?

@@xozobueno9106 oh enjoy! Korea can be challenging just as living in any new country but I loved it. Those age groups are all so different, I taught kindergarten through high school at hagwons (private cram schools) and they were long days, so if you are going into the public school system you will have more normal working hours. The kindergarten kids were really cute, and they learn quickly at that age which is lovely but you need to be prepared with a range of activities for them because around 20 minutes or so on each one is probably enough (you can always fall back on colouring so you can regroup, so there's that!). If you have a Korea co-teacher that will be helpful, at any of the age groups really. You need a lot of energy for that age, but they were usually lovely kids and a lot of fun. When you get to middle school, they've obviously settled down a lot and are used to being in formal education, so that might be a possible option to start with, plus they are likely to be able to speak some English so communication can be easier. I only taught the high school kids right at the end of the day at the hagwon, often they had been to a different hagwon for other subjects before they started school in the mornings and after again, and they came to me about 7 or 8pm for English lessons so frankly, the poor kids were exhausted! Some of them would fall asleep in class and I usually just left them for a bit! As you probably know, education is everything in Korea, very like Japan, China and other countries in the region. The high school kids ALL take the same university entrance exams on the same day, country-wide, and their results decide who can go to the top colleges. They only get to take it twice, I believe (it's possible it's changed since I was there but I don't think so), it's extremely intense, covers all subjects and their whole education leads up to that exam, so they have an incredible amount of pressure. But as education is so valued, and the culture is so different, I certainly encountered less "rebellious teenagers" than I would in the UK! Obviously there are a whole set of issues facing teenagers everywhere, you will pick up as you go along. Other foreign teachers who have gone before you in the system are invaluable - hopefully you will have other teachers in the school that you choose, as I found that incredibly supportive when things made no sense, and for lesson ideas and tips. I hope that gives you a bit of perspective! Sometimes things won't make any sense ("yes" meaning "no" was a big one for me!) but if you can go with it and enjoy the kids and explore as much of your city and the country that you can, you will have a great time!

I appreciate the time you put aside to do that 😊 I think elementary to middle school will be a good option, as Korean students tend to be better behaved than the average British high school student. I went to a public inner city school in the UK so its good to hear that I won't get a repeat of that experience but on the other side. Ah I think I know the exam your referring to - my fiancé's nephew is taking it. I do find your insight very useful and will try and be even more compassionate towards the kids. Also thank you for the tips. I will try and get to know the other teachers well so we can hopefully support one another. I hope you're doing well and thriving in whichever position in life you are in now. And again, thank you from this random Internet stranger :)

Its always a mind game with these students lol I was def stern with some of the students and then I realized they gave me all the trouble maker kids. Some of the best kids to this day. Great video of realistic of what its like to teach in Korea

I was surprised to see you complain about having a rough class because from what I've seen in your videos is that they are all behaving well. I know the struggle...i taught kindy and it was he'll on a daily basis for me 😂 I was so bad with classroom management lol

im not asking this in a rude way but im planning to teach in korea in September and hoping to start my youtube channel. i know here is a law in Korea about the right to peoples faces meaning we cannot film them without their premission.. so im curious how do u video the streets or classrooms ? do you tell the school ur a youtuber or get their premission ??

I try my best to not show faces but sometimes it happens. I try to edit it out when possible. Usually, my video quality isn’t good enough to really tell who people are anyway, especially with masks. Also, the school is aware that I make KZbin videos and has even asked me to make a video for the school before 😃
