This is my experience of being black at a predominantly white institution or PWI. I will tell you pros, cons and also compare it to attending an HBCU. Hopefully this will help high school seniors who are in between schools, this is definitely something to consider. Hopefully I’m not lien and lots of people can relate but if you disagree or have any questions or comments feel free to comment below and don’t forget to subscribe.

Awesome video! I got accepted into University of Georgia, and I'm really excited, but its a PWI. For me, race isn't an issue. I judge people off by their character. I come from a very diverse High school. I'm friends with Hispanics, blacks, whites, ect. Unfortunately, I am kind of intimidated by the huge amount of really pretty blondes and brunettes with blue eyes that I see on the Facebook page. They all seem nice but that was the first time realization hit me like a truck. I'm more of an introvert like you, so I'm kind of nervous about making connections, but hopefully It won't be so bad if *I decide to actually go there* as oppose to the hbcu that gave a 18000 scholarship making the pwi and hbcu cost to be about at the same level.

Avid Inspiration you will be fine at whichever school you choose. You have a diverse group of friends and that shows you will have no problem making connections with different types of people. A pro to attending a PWI is you will get to experience lots of different races and cultures despite it being predominantly white. Knowing how to interact with different types of people will help you in the long run. It is good to venture out of your comfort zone.

Hey! I go to UGA now and I promise you it’s not as intense as you think! It’s not like you’re going to be the only black person in class (there’s actually much more than us than you think) there are several clubs dedicated to all kinds of black students and their needs, and the school itself is the BOMB. Don’t mind these white boys with their jeeps and these white girls with their Starbucks you’ll find your niche and be cool! If you need any advice or anything feel free to reach out! ✨

You all need to stop blaming yourselves for stereotypes and trying to fix yourself because of said stereotypes. The people in the wrong are the people that are doing the stereotyping because they are closed minded folks who believe that everything that one black person does represents their whole race. When it’s common sense to to think the opposite; that everyone has different personalities. Start blaming the stereotypers and keep on being yourself regardless.

I work in a PWI and they consider me to be "difference" than my counterparts and now they alienate me as a result of favoritism.
