Wow. First time I’ve heard an rv dealer talk the truth about the quality or lack of quality with a particular brand. Almost every rv dealer I’ve shopped recently pushes junk on you. I’m now going to ROA’s website. Thank you

They'll talk truth now that they've dropped them, but will still spew BS about any brand they do carry. Any RV made after 2019 is highly suspect of being garbage. And that doesn't even cover the legal crap crap they do to strip a buyer of any rights to address a bad product.

@@jamesperkins5468 Agreed. Truth? Sounds like ROA is just trying to save face, with a hint of background litigation. What would cause you to make a video like this? I own a 2019 HQ19. I am completely happy with it. It tows beautifully, it's very comfortable, it's great off-road, built like a tank, and has no more issues than any of the other brands. Most issues associated with Black Series are industry wide, some are dealer issues, and some are from operator naivety or error. Covid did not help anyone. I am no fan of China either, but it doesn't necessarily mean it will be a bad product, it's more to do with trade inequality. Am I to believe that every other brand they sell has no association with China? This video seems like a cop out, ROA was completely in on Black Series and just bailed on them, will they do the same thing with any of the newer brands they are pushing? They'll never drop Roamer until they do. He thinks Air Streams are perfect? Enough said.

THANKS SO MUCH! I was almost buying a 19 here in Colorado. The front and side diamond plate felt like it was 3D printed. A cabinet in the bathroom had a door broken, washer cabinet was broken. everything felt poorly made. Since they were on sale for 50% off MSRP it was tempting but we passed. THANKS! Really appreciate that you'll still support those who had already gotten one. U ROCK!

Hey Shane! I have to say that my 2021 HQ19 that I bought from ROA has been a real cherry. 44,000 miles in 2 1/2 years. Lots of gnarly off roading. Finally replaced the stock flexible solar panels and batteries. Refer has worked perfectly. Stairs still good. No problems with the stabilizers and none of the wheel studs have sheared off (that would be a deal breaker for me to have a wheel pass me on the road…). If that happened to a car or truck, the NHTSA would be issuing a recall notice! Thanks for keeping us ROAmers in the family despite you moving on from carrying BS trailers.

According to Harvard Business Review, historically, 70 - 90% of mergers and acquisitions fail. It is how once great companies/products die. Usually a smaller company pioneers something great and builds (or taps into) a market for it, then a larger company runs it to the ground because they really did not understand the unique market positioning of the product and/or (many times both) try to squeeze more profit (partly to pay back the acquisition quickly) and ruin the products quality and unique features. Some do survive and go on to thrive, but the odds are against it.

We were seriously going to buy a Black Series after looking at one in 2017 or 2018. The quality of the one we looked at in 2021 combined with the price hikes completely eliminated them from consideration unfortunately.

Hi mate, I got a black series here in Australia back in 2015 and had nothing but issues with it from straight from the showroom floor. The after sales service was infuriating as I was blatantly lied too about parts being in the mail (so I could fix the first issue myself) and then I was avoided like the plague. No returned calls or emails and every time I called the warranty representative was "busy" or "not in at that moment". I ended up having a couple of issues with the trailer that could have been deadly and when i approached the company about these failures they wanted nothing to do with me. By 2018 the camper had literally fallen apart and unroadworthy. I couldnt even sell the thing so off to the scrap yard it went. The fact this company was still operating blew me away with all the fair trading claims and law suits I read about on the black series Facebook pages. Probably a very good choice to drop them mate. They were nothing but a bunch of money grabbing grubs.

Hey Shane, remember me, Jan Sugalski. I bought my HD17 from you in the summer of 2019 (I think?) and I am happy with it. The installation of the skylight was sloppy as well as the stability of the table, but overall the quality seems good. I think I bought mine before the quality went downhill and the prices went way up. My main gripe has always been that no actual manual was provided, no structural diagram was provided so the owner could make modifications and no electrical diagram was provided for tracing problems. Hopefully you now fixed these things. I like your philosophy of marketing in terms of passing the business to your grand children, but by that time I expect to see parking meters at all the parking spots in the national parks. Good luck with the business.

We are in the process to sue Blackseries and willing to expose their deceptive business practices. I will definitely be extremely cautious when dealing with this dishonest company. I bought an HQ12, the very first one ROA sold, and beyond quality issues it had some major design flaws. Driving it home from the ROA, it swayed so badly I couldn't go over 45, I was white knuckled and full of regret. I spent thousands trying to resolve the sway, trying all kinds of different products. The final solution was to remove the dual spare tire rack and mount one tire under the front of the trailer to move weight forward, problem solved, but how did they ship something with such a fundamental and dangerous design flaw? In addition it leaked when it was brand new. ROA was helpful in helping me address the problems, and once it was dialed in it was a pretty fun trailer. Ultimately it was just too heavy to comfortably tow with my midsize truck, and the articulating hitch was a huge hassle. I sold it and it soured me to RVs. I'm back to tent camping and couldn't be happier.

Here in Australia the hybrid caravan (trailer) market is growing strong… chassis and body is manufactured in China with fitout done locally. We are aware of the quality issues with suspension and components used on the electrical 12v systems. Knowing these issues, I’ve still gone ahead and paid a deposit on a new hybrid caravan. Purchased from a local company who seem to have a good service team, and provide a five year warranty. There are full 100% Aussie built units available, but are usually double the price of the Chinese ones.

I have a 2022 HQ19, your hinting at safety issues is nonsense. Either tell everything or say nothing. I suspect that you have found out that selling 500 Black Series per year to a few way overpriced models you currently offer has to hurt the bottom line. Plus, you were charging people thousands of dollars for upgrades etc. I am sorry, but the only thing this "rant" has done has helped me to decide that ROA is not for me. What few "workmanship issues" I have discovered are related entirely to California and not the China portion of assembly. You were honest about one comment, and that is that "they all have issues". Even if it were perfect, drag it on the highways for a few thousand miles and see what you have. Let alone taking anything off-road, that will expose the weaknesses much quicker. I know people who have owned some of the brands you currently sell, be careful because they are not all you claim them to be either. I even had one person tell me that if I give ROA $5,000.00 that I can "be a roamer too". Really? Your that special? At the end of the day margin and volume both count. You can tell everyone that selling RV's isn't important to you. I say "BS".

I think your too offended to be logical. I was in retail sales for years and one thing I learned is manufacturers will come in with great ideas, award winning, head turning products, great warranties and manufacturing outstanding quality control and the product goes off the shelf like a hot new music album. Then suddenly, everything changes and you're left wondering what happened? Typically what happens is the cost overrun of quality gives way to trying to increase profit. This results in cutting costs by lowering quality control standards, substituting cheaper parts, all to speed up production to insure more product for less cost. The outcome: more failures, more down time, more returns and warranty claims and ultimately less customer service. I believe ROA 100% and have no doubt about the situation.
@flashgordon9989
@flashgordon9989 9 ай бұрын
@@troyezell5841Actually, I am not offended at all. I too have worked in sales, service, and manufacturing and understand things to a level way deeper than "sales" - no offense intended. I have a very good understanding of production costs, warranty costs and the rest of expenses involved in manufacturing. I don't claim that Black Series is the perfect camper, such a camper as mentioned more than once has yet to be built. My statement is if there is truly a "safety issue" that ROA is aware of, they should feel obligated to make people aware of it. I personally know Black Series owners who have purchased from ROA, they haven't been notified either. So, if it is a real issue, why would you not at least tell your customers about it to keep them safe? I feel that ROA has great intentions and are trying to do as many things as possible differently from other RV Sales locations but back to your statement about bottom line. This 500 unit per year loss in sales volume has hurt their bottom line. This of course doesn't include the massive profits they made on upgrades they sold. The other brands they have moved to, specifically the Forest River - Palomino Pause give me great reasons for concern. I see the potential for a very real very large safety issue that no one wants to discuss. This is a great example of what will happen when sales volume doesn't meet the expected levels which will create the exact thing that you mentioned, reduce the cost of manufacturing. Face it, 8% plus interest, a very soft economy, and people struggling to survive will certainly dampen the ability to move $138K products built by the consistent top 5 worst RV manufacturing companies in the USA. Yeah, I know "Pause is a complete different division given additional latitude to build something that is different. Time will tell the story about that too. At the end of the day, if you are satisfied with whatever you have and actually use it, that's terrific!

So I also happen to be a business owner and a dealer. I am a dealer in a large metropolitan area for medical equipment. Things like lasers and x-ray machines. My point is as a dealer we take on risks associated with vendors and manufacturers, etc. At the end of the day you have every right to protect your business and your dealership when things start going wrong. These things happen. I think the way you were explaining it is perfect and your customers will understand. In the last 25 years of doing business, there have been several manufacturers that I’ve had to steer away from even after heavily pushing their product For years, for one reason or another over time. I would have to steer away for one reason or another. At the end of the day, if you’re taking care of your customer, that’s really all that matters. If you’re operating in good faith, that’s all that matters because at the end of the day your reputation is all you have. It’s perfectly fine to push a product that you believe in. But once that business transaction no longer make sense i.e., Manufacturer support, poor quality, control, etc. you have to protect yourself and your customers.

I started researching on my own only to find out these are Chinese made blank trailers, which is fine, but they are shipped in and modified by black series. It's the reason they only have 30 gallons of water, their frames are universal and they can only use certain size tanks. I started looking elsewhere and ended up with Northwest manufacturing, they make Arctic Fox, Outdoors RV and Nash. All are exceptionally high-quality trailers but do not have the cool factor of a black series. I've had my outdoors RV 23 DBS since January 2022. It is literally unbelievable how overbuilt my trailer is!

What do you think of this type of trailer and do you have anything similar without a lot of additional cost. I appreciate your integrity and we may get something more serious in the future.

Well. As a long term camper. I can definitely see the quality issues. Over the years the manufacturers have cheapened their quality for profits. My last purchase was a 2014. It's had a few issues but nothing major until just the last couple of years. Roof leak around the dumbest thing. The antenna. Now we're having delam issues. May be time to look into something else or rebuild. Which I like to do

Good luck finding a chassis made here without spending over 100k, lippert chassis are Chinese as well and they build a bunch. A few years ago I seriously considered buying a Black Series from ROA. Quality issues aside, they clearly weren’t designed for the colder climates of much of North America. ROA offered some great mods at the time, but in end, I had to pass. We eventually found a great deal on an Airstream, but these have issues as well. I love the current offerings from ROA. Hopefully when we’re in the market again, we’ll come in and buy something.

@@hfk1001 We’ve had our Airstream for a little over two years now. For the most part it has been a good experience. But recently we noticed a few “soft spots” on our floor. From my brother in law’s experience, I know that this is the floor rotting, likely from water intrusion. In my opinion, this is the Achilles heal of Airstreams. So many potential points of failure as far as leaks go. The fact that an undetected leak can have such a costly result is maddening to me. My understanding is that as of 2022, Airstream stopped using plywood as the subfloor and is now using some sort of composite material. This would make a leak issue like mine not nearly as costly to repair.

So I can only offer my personal view. I used ROA videos a lot for initial decision on Black Series purchase but found my 2021 HQ19 on east coast delivered in Oct of 2020 at $60k USD MSRP which for quality and capability was a FAR better deal than airstreams and the “off road camper” type did not have as many options as now. I have and still am living in my full time on my land in TN and I build a barndo. My main failures or issues that drove me to upgrade/replace have all been with 3rd party parts other than annoyance issues like delaminating things due to humidity. Failure of dometic fridge to keep cool, failure of dometic ac to not freeze up, some minor replaceable parts in the dometic water heater. Failure of the gel batteries to hold a charge. For the dometic parts those were in last 8 months so for living full time, I feel I got the normal consumer use out of a cheap throw in brand. The batteries are purchased by dealers not black series though issue of what caused the batteries to fail may have been cheap solar charger and inverter or wrong settings and happened early on. But replacement of rest of electrical was an upgrade decision with new lithium batteries not because they failed. So IMO yes quality went down from what I got from the postings I have seen once COVID went into full swing which impacted every brand and demand was still climbing. It’s the nature of the beast. It still goes back to anyone should have awareness and min skills to inspect and check out whatever they are purchasing. Would I buy one again? Yes if I checked it out and it’s in same shape as my current one and at same MSRP with some markup for inflation. But I would not for the extra 30k that was being added for shipping costs last year.

I'm glad that you are satisfied with your purchase. That's all that really matters in the end. However, I don't believe that a $60k unit should have anything cheap or throw-away used by the manufacturer. As buyers, we have been conditioned by the RV industry to accept their high prices and subpar quality for years. If you bought a comparably priced car/truck and had the same 'issues', you would be irate and rightfully so. I don't own a BS unit but do have a 28' Grand Design Imagine. The quality for my unit has been okay but several upgrades have been made to give better usage and reliability.

Black Series definitely have their issues, but they are also priced (generally) 30k less than the next comparable trailers. Compare a HQ19 to a Dweller 19. You get what you pay for. That being said, kudos to ROA for sticking to their guns, but unfortunately by doing so they are excluding a large portion of consumers the opportunity to join in their awesome culture. Hopefully Black Series can sort out their manufacturing and quality control standards in the future. If they can do that there's a huge market for their trailers in that price range!

Everyone in Australia always new they weren't built here and they were not anyone's favourite. No wonder they went to the US. There is a reason why the Australian top full offroad trailers & campers are twice the price of a Black Series, the Aussie trailers go the distance in the tough conditions. Buyer beware. I feel sorry for the buyers who bought the Black Series. Check out Aussie brands like ZoneRV, Kedron, AOR (Australian Off Road), Bushtracker, Mountain Trail and watch their KZbins and take note of the build. We see a lot of Aussie component designs like Cruisemaster airbags suspension and composite slowly making it into USA design and build. Look after your local manufacturers and they'll come up with the goods. The above mentioned Aussie brands have been around for a long time because they don't build junk and quality and tech is industry leading.

Majority of the issues that we (owners on the owner's forum) see with anything quality related was usually around the 3rd party products (Fridge, A/C). The trailers are built solid with no fatigue around frames, suspension or shell, which is important to understand when you are blaming a company for quality and the parts that they are directly responsible for are the parts that last. Where we saw Black Series struggle during COVID was also seen in EVERY OTHER manufacture due to supply chain constraints and limited workforce all feeding an increased demand for this product. You sitting here, publically blasting them for clicks is pretty low, but not unexpected from you. The insight we have gained over the years from all of the owners really highlighted poor communication and over promising from dealers. Every RV will have issues and will have maintenance needs. Its a shame you call out Black Series when the Conqueror 19 is a spitting image of the HQ19 and probably made in the same factory (Owned by BS). I am going to stop here before I start telling the side of the story that RVOA is responsible for that you conveniently left out. I believe that this was an unnecessary smear job mean to get you clicks and nothing more. It's an absolute bummer to see because you, deservingly so, brought so many of us to a solid brand with good quality.

Start telling our side of the story? Please do share… You don’t know a fraction of the true story…. This was a simple message that was focused on us saying we won’t work with companies that can’t maintain good quality and you would be insane to work with a company that didn’t treat you good. If a business gives you poor service or treats you bad you have the right to never go back again. This is pretty simple. The other part of the message was even though we drop a manufacturer that doesn’t mean we will drop the customers.

I’ve been in manufacturing for years and this is how China operates. You ask a factory rep if they can make your product. They reply yes. You send them your engineering specs. They make you the exact product with conforming specs. You sign the deal. After a few hundred they start cutting corners with less material and cheaper metallurgy. The products start failing, your customers suffer. Rinse repeat. Only companies that put profit ahead of customers outsource to China. Which, guess what, most companies do and only fools or people with no other choice buy products made in China.

Bought a 2017 HQ19 from Shane in 2018 (he was with RV Steals and Deals) and it was hilarious how he lied over and over about his sale. They were the best and most rigorous RVs you could purchase and I still have all the texts/emails from both he and Rudy the BS manager at that time. I have completely redone mine after an electrical fire (battery short) adding bulked up components and much heavier shocks. After spending $10k on solar panel removal/replacement and finding the leak that caused the electrical fire I’m into mine for $63,000 but own it and it’s now a superior RV trailer. Would advise anyone who buys one that the suspension and frame are bulletproof but like many brands these days, nobody stands behind the products and lies are a common theme.
