It’s really nice seeing somebody say great things about this show. This show somehow doesn’t get as much credit compared to Hebron 2021. As someone who lives in Oklahoma and got to see this show in person, it’s nice getting to see this show more appreciation.

Well, Hebron’s show in 2021 simply can’t be touched, musically. Most bands will do double and triple tonguing at the beginning of a show and that wears out most band’s lips. But they were double & triple tonguing throughout the show and were just as solid at the end of the show as they were at the beginning. The visual package was right on par. I can’t find a weakness anywhere. They played just as well in their 2022 show, wide variety of corps choreography, but the excitement level wasn’t the same as the year before. I am not trying to take anything away from Broken Arrow’s shows. They are solid in what they do! I love them! But I did see some training issues. It’s sort of like all of the band members didn’t buy into the concept of the show and just knew they would be great. And they were! That’s a dangerous time in a programs growth though. “When you know you’re good, you don’t need to try harder.” I think maybe that’s the difference between the two groups. Both are exceptional and should be proud of what they have accomplished! ❤️

@@eddietucker7005 that whole buying into the concept of the show lacking happened to us this year. Especially freshmen and sophomores assuming we’d just be good. We definitely didn’t play as well this year as we did last year. Also once you face the opening hit in person, you’ll realize how we got where we were. In fact I probably have permanent ear damage marching and playing that show😂

To me, the edge of eternity and over the edge explores the ideas of death. Edge of eternity being the euphoria and beauty of heaven. With the hit in the ballad being reunited with a lost loved one. And over the edge being the scary and anxiety you feel about death. These shows show the beauty of eternity and the scary parts of eternity

I was in Indianapolis to see Edge of Eternity for both semis and finals and I was blown away both times. Broken Arrow has always been my favorite and seeing them not only win but achieve the highest score, ESPECIALLY after the year after COVID hit was extremely special.

I personally think, Because of how different the shows are designed, Yet also similar in how amazingly they were performed. We can all agree that they were in a different caliber of their own. Hebron and Broken Arrow last year shared a pedestal that couldn’t be touched. We should praise the talent instead of constantly arguing which one was better.

Your video image looks like 918 which coincidentally is Broken Arrow’s area code. I know they scored 98 and change. I’m just saying the performer resembles a number 1.

People always attack me for liking BA 21 better than Hebron 21. I genuinely think BA's closer was the greatest of all time. And my god, the show design. Everything about it was such a chef's kiss. The thing you said about the mood not changing, I absolutely agree. Most marching band shows are a "album" of songs, but TEoE really just sounded like one really long song with perfect buildup. Yes, this inevitably makes the parts in the middle relatively bland, but that's just what makes the good parts so much better. Analysis of Penstriped next plz?

You have some really nice commentary on the breakdown of these shows. I love listening to that. Are you still in High School? If so, which one? As a former judge for color guard, I keep a look out for vocabulary (is there a variety and depth to the book) and how well they perform what is given to them. I understand what you are saying on the cat rolls in using space, but man, put variety and/or depth to it. “If you do one move twenty times, it still counts as only one.” And then each time it is done, are they doing it exactly the same way from person to person (technical variations in training.) There in lies some vocabulary/training issues. That is something every organization needs to look at. How did you come to the conclusion of this being a COVID show? Interesting thought!! Since I am looking at individual analysis, I don’t get to see what the show concept is. That’s for the upstairs judges! 🤓 I can’t wait to hear more from you. You do such a great and entertaining read on the shows!!

Thank you for the feedback! Yes I am currently in High School, However my directors have asked me not to disclose which one because they don't want their reputation damaged incase I upset anyone.

BA was absolutely deserving to win it all in 2021. But I want to know: how many hours per week did they rehearse??
@eddietucker7005

Good question! In Texas, we have the Eight Hour rule. That means you can practice only eight hours outside of normal class times. You break that rule, you lose your job! In other states, I don’t know. I know that each guard member has to pay like $2,500. Per student, per year (or so I’ve been told by a guard member in the Blue Orchid show.) She says that’s one reason they do not compete in WGI. They would rather put all of their eggs in one basket (field) instead of two. I respect their decisions!

That’s a great question! Keep in mind that this is what I could remember so some of it could be a bit off. During the 2021 season we started in April meaning the freshman were technically still in the eighth grade and so on with the other grades except the graduating class of 2021, obviously (just in case anyone was confused). We had about two mine camps before summer that were three days of 2 hour practices after school. Hitting summer vacation that started in late May we had about four weeks of freedom with not mandatory but heavenly suggested strength and conditioning were we lifted weights and such. From this point up until July we had mini camps sprinkled in that were typically 1-9 on Thursday-Saturday and maybe a Wednesday thrown in for fun with shortened hours. When it hit July 15 our mandatory camp (nicknames hell camp) started until the start of the school year . The triple schedule was Monday-Saturday 1pm-9pm with a hour dinner break at 5. Wednesdays were typically 9am-4pm with a lunch break at noon. When it hit the new school year of 2021-2022 in class we had a normal concert session and out of it was marching band. Where it typically was Monday-Tuesday 3:15 or 3:30-6:00 or 6:30. Wednesday off. Thursday-Friday 5:00-9:00. Then the regular 1-9 on Saturdays up until nats with slight variations in schedule depending on holidays and breaks. Unlike Texas, Oklahoma does not have the 8 hour rule so we have a wider range of freedom with hours. At least in the Broken Arrow school system marching band is not considered a Sport only a fine art so technically we do not operate under any restrictions that the sports do. It’s more considered an after school clubs in system like drama or show choir. You also have to tryout to make hornline/percussion and color Guard. Some tryout and don’t make it. For hornline and profession you have to be in band in order to try out; for color guard you do not. In other words your can be in band and not marching band. You are not forced to do both like I know some schools do. Last year every student in marching band had to pay $3,500 (helps cover uniform, travel, and prop expenses) not including external charges like none uniform gloves and such. There are also many many (I can stress many enough) fundraisers that occur during the season to help pay off student accounts and pay for not only uniform and proper but also none school districts staff and clinicians. Hops this helped answer the question. I apologize for any grammatical errors.

I think why they are so clean with there show, is because they used the extra time of covid to have a plan of exactly what how they want to rehearse. They got so much done, because they focused on nailing the design of the show. They focused more on technique and clarity over show design, because they already spent a year over the design. Or they're just cracked for getting this done in one year.

Idk what the policy is in OK but where I am we weren't even allowed to have full band rehearsals until late into the 2020 season, plus the rising freshman weren't there yet so they wouldn't be able to work on it, I know BA planned on doing it for 2020 before covid, so like no random midseason changes to drill or choreo, but still absolutely crazy to pull off

@@6band I was mainly talking about how they had more time to come up with the drill and themes rather than rehearsing it. But I get your point of how insane it is. Funny enough, our band program stayed during 2020, and they got to perform a show. They had to wear masks during rehearsal, it was a nightmare. Glad I wasn't in that season.
