Just came across your video. Coming from a machining back ground as yourself. My family has been in the tool and die, precision machining business for almost 40 years. My grandfather started the business and he had me working since I was 10 now 44. I also run manual and CNC lathes. Also got into gunsmithing because of him. I just wanted to say what you said about feel and how the tolerances of the machine changes was amazing! Only someone with a lot of experience can truly understand. You have my utmost respect and I subscribed to your channel because of how you explained everything in this video. There needs to be more videos like this!

I have built all my guns for some time, but I'm a silly engineer with a single mill. It takes a lot of balls to tool up to this level in today's society. I wish the best for you.

I have a small mill but no lathe. I've been spending time trying to wrap my head around milling a receiver (for context, I'm inclined to mauser 98 and it's varients) and being able to do all operations without a latge. I'd love to see what your doing.

What a new and unique ministry ✝️! God bless! Your Spirit emits from you and shows through your work ethic- as it is written “Col 3:23 - And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;” Also, I have wanted one of your builds for a long time, but due to being out of my financial reach- even considered one from the large manufacturers. But due to your boldness of faith, I think that I should follow another scripture that instructs us to support the brethren . I will continue to save as God blesses and, Lord willing, be one of your satisfied customers in the future. Keep up the good work- both yours and His!

Thank you for that message. I consider myself a Christian and I do tithe but sometimes fall short on offerings. Still God has blessed me and sometimes he sends me messages that I'm not expecting. I hope you had a Merry Christmas and I hope this year is 10 fold over last year for you. Also, I'll be waiting for you to start taking in Begara's again. 🙂 Take care.

You want to make sure to pull the sheet metal off that Doosan periodically. Our old Doosans were air cooled and the cooling channels would get caked with shop dust and schmoo, increasing spindle heat and lowering spindle life. Maybe they've fixed this issue, but it's cheap and easy insurance to give the spindle a good wipe down every once in a while

Not a gunsmith but I’ve spent years on both manual lathe and CNC.. I personally prefer manual lathe. When I was running machines I held myself to lower tolerances than required and took pride in smooth clean cuts. I ran a lot of powder cast aluminum parts and the head tool and die guy that had like 40 years of experience was impressed with not only how clean and accurate my work was, but the speed I could do it in. I worked in another shop that was heavily tooled in CNC. I learned to run and write programs but I honestly don’t care for it. For me I can get tighter tolerances and cleaner cuts on a manual lathe. That company had a manual lathe in excellent condition under a tarp. I asked my foreman if I could run it and he said sure if you know what you are doing because he didn’t know how and didn’t even know if it worked. The head boss seen me running it a couple days later and said he didn’t think anyone in the shop could run it and was super impressed with with the parts I was kicking off of it and gave me a big raise on the spot. Love working in a machine shop, but didn’t want to spend my life standing on concrete all day, every day. If I was to learn gunsmith and start my own business there wouldn’t be a CNC in the place.

Don't use the Q setter so often and you'll improve your tolerance. That machine can hold better than 3 tenths, but you have to work in your tools. Once your tools are there, it'll repeat better than your manual machine until your inserts go. Q setter gets you close but won't account for the handful of other things that affect size in a cut.
@EagleEyeShooting Жыл бұрын
From DN, these machines in controlled climate will hold 0.0002-0.0003. Even with manual touch offs. Going by 70% min cut on all insert RE. That is extremely good in comparison with other turn mills.
