"In 1867, Bullock became a resident of Helena, Montana, where he unsuccessfully ran for the Territorial Legislature. He was subsequently elected as a Republican to the Territorial Senate, served in 1871 and 1872, and helped create Yellowstone National Park."

Having been to Deadwood and The Little Bighorn battlefield, and the graves of Holiday and Earp-they left the hangman’s noose around McCall’s neck when the planted him, and the show portrays Wild Bill as he says to Bullock “I’m flat out tired Montana.” A decade, or maybe even five years earlier, someone would have gotten up to let Bill have the chair with his back to the wall. But he was losing his eyesight, his hands weren’t quite as steady (note the scene where Utter pours his coffee for him because Bill’s hands were so shaky) but he WAS the real deal. Deadly accurate in his prime, and fast with that butt forward, sash for a holster rig for his cap and ball Navy revolvers. He’s rumored to have cleaned them constantly and change percussion caps almost daily. “Keep your powder dry” goes back to flintlock, and probably earlier days, but his pistols were always ready! Semper Fi

Love all your hard work and analysis on the Deadwood's character. I thought viewers might want to know that George Hearst is famous in so many other ways. His only son his son William Randolph Hearst, who became internationally known as a newspaperman and publisher, and was a primary inspiration for Orson Welles' 1941 film Citizen Kane. Also, his great-granddaughter was Patty Hearst. She first became known for the events following her 1974 kidnapping by the Symbionese Liberation Army. She was found and arrested 19 months after being abducted, by which time she was a fugitive wanted for serious crimes committed with members of the group. Thanks again.

The Manuel brothers is NOT Alma Garret. The Manuel brothers are in season 2 of the show. Francis Walcott wants to but their goldmine. One of them wants to sell, the other dosn't. The first one shoots the other to inherit his half and sell it all to Francis (operating on behalf of mr Hearst) Mose Manuel then regrets the whole thing and works as a bodyguard for Joanie Stubbs and later for the school to ease his conscience.

I was never a fan of westerns in any sort. This wasn't a western in any way though. It applies to life in general. Where there is money and industrialized progress, there is drugs, booze, gambling, and prostitution. You could take this story, copy and paste it in 2022 and it would play out the same. I stumbled on it one night laying in bed and it was the only thing on TV, by the time my first episode was over, I was hooked. I have always said a great film is not about the actors/actresses. It's about the directors and this series would clearly demonstrate that my statement holds true. Thanks so much for the clips.

3:36 actually, we do. And it wasn’t anything much. (1st episode, introduction to the 3) Remember, Bill was in there laying down with a hangover. Jane says something like "you want me to reconnoiter up a bottle,Bill" & he says "I’ve seen the way you reconnoiter, Jane." 6:36 Moe’s Manueal and his brother had a big claim. Moe’s killed his brother so as to get sole ownership and get $250K for it from Hurst’s agent, Geologist Francis Wolcott upon sale.
@CrazyHank36
@CrazyHank36 2 жыл бұрын
I found this: George Hearst, did one day become the head the Hearst Publishing empire. He did send agents to Deadwood to inspect the two claims, but there is no evidence that he hired a nasty agent named Francis Wolcott. Hearst was known to have been a very demanding person with regard to his business interests, there is no evidence that he was the ruthless character portrayed on the HBO series. 19th century literature described him as a man of scrupulous integrity, a faithful friend, and without pretense or presumption of any kind. The Homestake Mine was discovered by brothers Moses and Fred Manuel, and Hank Harney, rather than the character of Brom Garrett, who never really existed in Deadwood’s history. This makes it impossible for Alma Garrett to own the mine or Mr. Elsworth’s running it. None of the last three people ever existed in Deadwood’s history.

When you are in the company of The Wire, Breaking Bad, The Sopranos-I, early American History degree holder (twice published in archaeological quarterlies) and I say that ONLY to show I have more than a passing interest in history, I think I am behind you. I was so outraged when it ended. Anyway, “Don’t never say what you won’t do Blasinov, with your feet held to the fire.” (Dan.) I have begged my 87 year old mother-an English professor for nearly 40 years at OSU-to PLEASE WATCH THIS!! I tell her if you could get passed the swearing, which SHE professes is what she can’t tolerate, I think it’s the violence and portrayal of women in the show-it’s writing to rival Shakespeare himself. The ONLY tv show I've watched more than once, as cinematic as tv has ever been, E.B Farnham played to perfection by the criminally underrated William Sanderson, I know we all love Al (greatest anti hero ever to grace a screen) but E.B had me proper cracked up, its a show I find some little detail I missed, nice to get the ending but everyone was at the peak of their abilities back then, Milch sadly mentally diminished but still writes better than most of these hacktivists virtue signalling clown show writers of today, we wouldn't get Deadwood today, some professional victim would be offended as they always are, anyways, blessings from Ireland 🇮🇪🤝🌎 R.I.P Mr Boothe, another criminally underrated character actor.

I loved the poetic dialogue in Deadwood, Even swearing like sailors, the dialogue gave the characters an air of elegance. The real-life Calamity Jane did nurse the miners in the camp through the smallpox epidemic as portrayed in the show. It's interesting however that even Deadwood succumbed to the myth that Jane had lesbian tendencies. She had 2 children (possibly 4) by different men and there is no contemporary record of her displaying a sexual preference for females.

I startd getting so angry having to wait til nx season to know what happns next. That drives me insane. Now l could almost quote every line in all sopranos seasons. Ive watched deadwood series probably 3 or 4 times just to catch everything l missed watchn it the 1st time. And the movie about 3 ti es as well now. Looks like im gna have to buy Tombstone from walmart or something. Anyways. Great video. I was obsessed with the civilwar when l was young. I know its sounds retarted when i tell you i even was a reinactor but the only reason l did that was because l was going with the canon guy. So ive shot the big ass canons on Fort Morgan in Gulf Shores and Fort Gains at Dauphin island. I was 13 or 14 at the time and firing those cannons got me so excited l cant even explain it. I got to play with so much armory stuff it was so awesome sleeping in the forts and l enjoyd the heck out of that. Because i wasnt officially part of any unit besides the canons so i didnt have to sweat balls as bad as all tne infantry men. I felt bad for them because everything l did was super fun and didnt have to do all the extra work involved. For a 13 / 14 year old kid that was amazing. Id go smoke a j walkn on the beach at nites when it was nice n cool cuz its hot as hell and humid as hell here so nite time is the rite time. Lol

Yeah!", nothing but respect regardless if you agree with me or not, best show I've seen recently is Yellowstone, hey there's a great Irish TV show from few years back called 'Love/Hate' and a brilliant movie called 'The General' based on a true story of our own Robin Hood who was murdered by the I.R.A in collusion with Irish police, great nan he was, I'd recommend them to you brother, got the two great actors Jon Voight and Brendan Gleason in it, shot in b&w, also an incredible movie by Steve McQueen called 'Hunger' with a career best performance by Micheal Fassbender, my cousin is in an upcoming movie remake of Roadhouse, not sure if he's famous over there but he is here, Conor McGregor, he's an MMA fighter, or was depending on what mood he's in, he cannot act for ******* though ngl, anyway all the best, if you want me to get our Con to give your channel a shout out let me know, he'll do it for me and he also loves Deadwood, in particular the great Al Swearegen, all the best brother 🇮🇪🤝🇬🇧🤝🇭🇺🤝🇦🇺🤝🇯🇵🤝🇨🇦🤝🇺🇸

Mose sells his claim to Tolliver/Wolcott/Hearst and eventually gets shot by Tolliver’s cappers, but lives. Surprised you don’t remember any of that…

I had to go back and watch it, I think what I was trying to say and didn't, that they made Mrs. Garrett a fictional character have the big strike, just to make her character more interesting, they took liberties with a lot of storylines. I could be wrong about that, it's been 3 years since I recorded it, who knows what my thought process was back than lol
