I'm 73- retired at 58 and started collecting ss at 62. I down sized my home and every thing I own is paid for. I pay my credit card in full every month . I DON'T regret it for one second . A little planning and budgeting is all it takes.

My biggest fear about retirement was the Money! I waited until I was 62 1/2 when I retired. If I could go back in time, I would retire in my mid-fifties!

At 62 I took my Social security and I retired. Sold my business. Took my little savings and with some odd jobs here and there I am enjoying my life so much more. Less stress, and as this video States more time to take care of myself. And loving retirement. 🥳💕

Not sure of a new word but this phase of life can and maybe should include some form of work even is it’s volunteering. I retired at age 54 with 30 years federal service. I was fortunate enough to be under CSRS (not FERS). I also paid max into TSP. I am fortunate to still be eligible for FEHB health insurance, as is my wife. She took “early retirement” at age 50 with 21 years federal service under FERS. She now works part time as an attorney. If you are financially secure, I highly recommend early retirement. I encourage young people to pay maximum amount into their 401K and IRA. I’m worried that most young folks are not preparing (financially) to retire early.

After we retired, eighteen years ago we took our own bikes to Europe for a few weeks every year and toured a different country each time, Denmark, Holland, Italy, Austria, France, Switzerland. Eventually we decided to move here permanently, sold our house and now live in Switzerland. This morning we went for a great bike ride in the mountains followed by an excellent lunch in a restaurant in a little village, all local produce. So as a very happy 77 year old eighteen years into retirement I can vouch for your advice.

This is such a fabulous story Glen Net. Very inspirational and there is a small part of me that would love to do this. But we have six children and deep connections to where we live so it would be hard right now. But not to say down the road we could at least spend a month or two in Europe. Thank you for sharing. This is great advice. At our M&A firm one of the biggest reasons people are afraid to sell their businesses is fear of retirement and what that life will look like. Retiring to something and allowing yourself to retire when you can really enjoy all your hard work is really important!

@@RetirementTransformed Thank you. Our current life is very simple. We work out at our local gym three days a week while working out the other four days at our home gym (weights, treadmill, stationary bike, etc.). We also have two young adults that keep us busy with things they need help with. We travel when we can but that is rather limited until our younger child graduates from college. Car work (three vehicles) and home repairs take up the remainder of our time. Who knew that retirement is a full-time job? 😁

Those in pension entities are also in decent financial shape as long as their programs are protected. Some of their ideas may or may not be relevant to those who are not as wealthy…boutique physicians comes to mind. You just have to do what’s right for your finances.
