"I don't believe in sending people to a place I don't endorse/support"....thank you Michelle for saying something that I have felt for so long but never shared with anyone because.... well many people think that any place out of Africa is better, so we should suck it up and be grateful. Like you, I worked in Dubai for about 5 years in the Oil and Gas industry....and YES, this environment does not support black people. And by the way, I was in HR, so you can imagine the number of people who would ask me about ways to get jobs in the UAE, but I didn't know what to tell them because I didn't like the place myself. My experience in HR...being black but not being allowed... indirectly.... to hire people from Africa, or if you push for diversity you are met with excuses like" if we hire Africans we need to pay them 25% or even less of what other races are earning because you are paid according to the passport you hold. I thank God for the experience, however, if anyone I care about wants to move to the UAE, I would tell them to really think if they are mentally strong enough to face the discrimination that goes on this region. And before anyone else says that it happens everywhere....No, it doesn't.... I have worked in the UK, In Austria, In Kenya and in the UAE...and the UAE was my worst experience. This place can kill your self-esteem and leave you hopeless if you are not mentally strong. Thank you for this Michelle. All the best in this new chapter of your life. I just moved back to Kenya as well.

How absolutely refreshing to finally meet someone who totally gets it...people just want what they want. I guess they’ll have to experience it themselves to know.I’d rather learn from someone else’s experience. Thanks for sharing this as well. I want to share as much as possible to bring awareness to this modern day slavery. Let me know if you’d ever be interested to chime in.

Just a side note, the way other middle easterners and North Africans are treated, who are technically Arab (for the most part) is horrendous, workers in all sectors experience being looked down, mocked, harassed, etc... The horror stories we here back home are just so sad, I know it's not all but anyone I know comes back with a negative experience to tell, some view all other races or countries as below them, and that if you have an Egyptian doctor for example, then he is meant to serve you, not treat you, not just in Dubai but the Arab peninsula overall.

Hi Michelle! I hope you remember me, we joined on the same date! I was so glad to see your video pop up on my recommendations, I'm about to binge watch your whole channel to see what you're up to :) The exhaustion was too real. Either by the amount of flying hours, the rosters with weird east-west combos, the ultra long ranges, the insane workload, I too was completely drained all the time. I left in 2018 because my mind and body couldn't keep up anymore and was getting sick all the time, which of course wasn't very welcomed in the company. It was an incredible experience but the people that want to join should be veeeery aware that things are very, very far from perfect and adjust their expectations accordingly. Hope all is well and keep it up with the great content!

Dear Michelle, I am an ex Greek flight attendant (male) worked for Aegean Airlines the main airline in Greece.I can totally understand what you want to say through your video and let me tell you that only a flight attendant can understand you.New wannabee employees cannot because the dont know the stress of the job the lack of sleep you get and most of all how the company you work for treats you.It has been a year since i made my last flight as an attendant (Greece-Munich).I worked the whole 2019 season which was the highest and most profit year of the company.We are talking about 100-110 block hours per month i dont even remember what the duty hours were.In my humble opinion working for an airline really is an experience worth living because you really grow up on the inside and you learn how to survive and value the genuine WELCOME of your family when you go back home.But its not forever.Its not the job that you can do and be happy and have a family or make plans .You dedicate your lifespan to a brand name and guess what the brand name does not value the lifespan you give in return.In every job you are a number but in airline you are not even a number.You are something less than that. They dont care about you and in some points they treat you like you dont have human rights.Its all about the money they get and thats it.To their eyes we are a replaceable mass of meat which must be made of iron on the inside and the outside.Thats why everyone and i mean everyone in this job is depressed.Because they are taking from you your nature as a human.After leaving Aegean,Emirates offered me to work from them . I didnt go.My wallet said yes but my instict said no man dont do this.And i didnt go . As i said before a year has passed since then and my wallet becomes emptier and emptier because of Covid19 and i think about if made the right choice.I still believe i did.I really hope you can adapt to your old lifestyle and do something creative for your soul so you can heal and claim the back the innocence about everything that is around you that i am sure they stole or manipulated.We are strong and we will endure. Stay Safe

Thank you for sharing your story with me. I wish you all the best..the happiness,the laughter,the joy and peace. God loves you Kensin. Warm hugs ♥️

Oh Michelle, I hear the pain you went through with your experience as an Emirates. All you wanted was to welcomed and accepted as a person, and you didn't get that. That's not a selfish or self-centered request. Rather, it's what everyone wants. It doesn't mean you were expecting a big welcome party or to be treated over and above everyone else. You just wanted to be treated like a human being. I admire you for hanging in there for 5 years. I also admire your faith because ultimately that's what got you through this test of faith. And I admire you for sharing your truth!! You're an amazing woman, Michelle. Any employer should be proud to have you as an employee. God bless you!! I am South African & here we have many many challenges & people often ask me "why did you come back to SA" OR "don't you regret leaving Dubai, you should have stayed" my response is always "the grass isn't greener on the other side" ... Thank you for sharing your experiences. I'd rather the devil I know than to just be an expat number to modern day slavery in another country. God Bless you girl!!! And just by the way, my closest support in Dubai were Kenyans & Zimbabweans. We just clicked. 2 whole years of being homesick, lonely, depressed, over worked & making excuses until my contract was coming to an end of which I knew i was not going to renew. My colleagues were in disbelief because everybody knew how much I loved my job, I was excellent at what I did but I was broken deep down and just couldn't see myself staying a minute longer. I am now a mom to 2 gorgeous boys, living in my home country, getting to see friends and family whenever I want. Love you Mich 🎉😊

I won't say EY is better than EK but I arrived to AUH after midnight, there was a driver who was waiting for me and the 3 other girls with me on the flight. Handed us our Du numbers and a welcome package, and we drove in two cars to our accommodations. I'm still in touch with my accommodation security guys because they were so sweet and kind. We found some snacks, water, and tea in our rooms, and my roommate was also waiting for me. It is true that EY and EK hire more Europeans than other nationalities, but also more North Africans and Indians, a tone of Kenyans and South Africans, IN EY. I'm Moroccan-American but my downfall was when I said I spoke Arabic. so as an Arabic speaker, I did more turnarounds to India and Pakistan lol more than any Arabic destination, when I became an FC I got to enjoy a bit more layovers, as FJ and CS most of my flights were turnarounds while other crew got to see other places and be on layovers. My favorite line to my PM was EY loves to punish me for my hard work I guess!!. I totally get feeling like you're just a staff number, I loved training, yes it was hectic and strict but guess what I was raised by a Moroccan mom so that's nothing lol. I'm glad you're in a better place, all the best to you!

Girl thank you so much for this video. Words can’t describe how valuable the information you shared with us is. Sadly even after listening to the cons, as an african with many responsibilities back home i am still trying to get a job as cabin crew. I was wondering if you could answer this very important question. I assume most Africans join the airline with a goal of saving as much money and one day leaving the company to do something back home. But i always notice how some girls get trapped by the “good life”. I wonder how much they are actually able to save and if they do save at all? I fear that I’ll lose focus of the real goal. Has that happened to you or anyone you know? TIA and i love the support you’re getting from your bf in the background 😅

Dear Michelle, You posted this video a year back and I just came across your video. During the last days and weeks a thought very often about Emirates and their way of choosing flight attendants. There is racism and much more. No diversity at all. Although they pretend to have this diversity on board as the cabin crew is from different countries. But from outside they all look the same. Why is it that ONLY, yes ONLY, extremely - what some people defined to be - attractive and young people get this job? Have I ever seen an Emirates flight attendant size large? Or have I ever seen an Emirates flight attendant above 40? Just imagine a black, above 40, cabin crew who fits into size extra large but physically very strong person. this will not happen with Emirates! This is inhuman. It is not about your performance in case of emergency (the reason why there are flight attendants!). Although I am always impressed about the friendliness they show in their flights and i also feel you are really educated for saving us when it comes to a problem. But Emirates cabin crew all look the same. They look like robots to me. And thats scary. sorry.

Hi Michelle, I wanted to know is it explicitly stated during training of air staff to give preferential treatment to fairer passengers over darker ones? I recently experienced a bit of bias on Etihad and where the air hostess was more warm towards fairer passenger behind me than she was to me.

My cousin is actually a flight attendant for Emirates now. She is a supervisor. I envied the job perks of being able to travel the world. However, I had a feeling that the job is exhausting mentally and physically. I will keep her in my prayers as she honestly needs it working for Emirates. Thank you so much for sharing. I love your transparency. God bless you on your new journey. Btw, are you still flying now or have chosen a different career. I just subscribed to your channel.

My daughter is a wedding photographer. She worked in corporate America & was doing wedding photography on the side. Her photography business became so big that she had to quit her full time job. Now, she’s a business owner and making more money than what she made working for corporate America and has the freedom to make her own hours. God is good.🙂 I’m so happy for you. Keep your faith and He will open doors that are close. God bless you.

God will work it all out.I’m confident 🙏🏾 Thank you for taking time to leave a comment 🤎

I hope you respond. There’s an open call in my city and I want to go to it just for fun and have the experience of being a flight attendant. I have no desire to stay there for more than 3 months 😂 being extremely honest. I just want to wear the uniform and just experience, because a flight attendant. as a kid emirates was my first plane ride and I was mesmerized by their beauty and sense of positive attitude. I’m a trained chef, but I’m on a journey of completing my childhood dreams. My questions are, can I quit at anytime ? Do I get to keep the uniforms ? Is the 7 week training done in Dubai , online or your residing city ? Was the pay good? How many days off? Do I get to work in first class as a newbie ? How many hours did you work in a day? The countries you fly to , have you ever gotten the chance to explore those places while there ? Thankyou in advance if you do see this ! I hope and pray life is treating you beautifully and are flourishing in your endeavours. If I get accepted, I’ll give them a piece of my mind and maybe a slap or two , in honour for how they treated you. I’m not joking about that. Haha Speaking up is differently something I’m not afraid to do.

Level of skills of applicants?What exactly do you mean by this?
@MichelleisMyName3 жыл бұрын
The population/race ratio is exactly the problem!
@krajchek3 жыл бұрын
@@MichelleisMyName means you hit the standards. Which is great. Others don't. But you stating that the population ratio is the problem is a bit steep. 😀. Now I feel discriminated. 😀 Ratio is nature. It is the way it is. There was only 1 (me) from our country in the whole of the company of 500 people. What to do, our country is small. 10 mill people only. Few applicants and even fewer hits the mark. Is it something to complain about and hold it against the company? 🤔
@MichelleisMyName3 жыл бұрын
Yes it is!....I value your opinion but this is mine.Yes it is worth ‘complaining’ about..We shouldn’t normalize this kind of stuff
@krajchek3 жыл бұрын
@@MichelleisMyName It is only logic. 🤷🏽♂️ just tying to make peace of mind. Can't have 50/50 ratio in a company if the planet's ratio also different and not that many applicant from a single country. I am sure plenty of Asian were there since they are 75% domination on Earth not including Japan. It’s nature, beautiful, no need to do anything. We are are all the same, from planet earth. Enjoy it. Those others were equally your race. Human beings. ☺️

First time I hear the truth about EK . I had a similar experience in EY. I thought it was just me that wasn’t as impressed by the experience. It was an experience but far from the glamour that is seen. I am grateful I flew for EY but flying for another carrier was a better experience. When you said “ extra stuff” on flights I laughed.....yes. It was an experience and I learned but it was not forever. Thank you for this video.

Lord knows my brain can only focus for so long. I understand racism will always be a thing. I am so sorry you went through this.
