Back in 2005 I was in Cebu City. A minister on TV gave a sermon about how some families have become dependent on their Filipino relatives abroad. He said many times their relatives working in different countries put up with indignities in order to keep their jobs and help their families back home. He said people should stop being dependent but allow their relatives abroad to save money, and maintain their quality of life where they work.
