This video is informative, but the “cons” are misleading. I'm a parent of three FSU students. Tallahassee is NOT overcrowded. Just College Town. Stores were “raided” everywhere due to supply chain shortages (i.e. pandemic). There’s PLENTY to do if you dare to venture outside of College Town. And yes, winters are cold. The winter lows range from 40s to 60s with maybe two weeks of 30s. As for the drivers? You guessed it. Only in College Town. My recommendation is if your'e going to be living on or near campus, leave your car at home. Students can ride the Seminole Express and Star Metro buses for FREE and the routes throughout College Town are fairly extensive.

So, is the bus service or the public/university transportation good enough? do you actually need a car at all? thanks for the comments

I got an MPH at FSU long ago in 2008. I was a much older graduate student. I took biochemistry I and II. That 2nd semester gets as hard as a real course in medical school. I knew that because I had taken summer anatomy lab with medical students at Colorado-Denver. The good pre-med students usually study about 15-20 hours per week for just that one biochemistry course. I thought the "party" school reputation was ironic. It was brutally rigorous in STEM. As for social life, I found that those of ages 18-22 were relatively most comfortable at FSU. Older graduate students were generally out-of-place. I did play a lot of IM basketball at Tully Gym when I was there - great times. Other than that, it was all work at FL DOH and then studying at night for FSU's MPH. I gave a presentation on Agent Orange in the Vietnam War. I later did some additional research of that era (1960s) and learned that Jim Morrison of the Doors had attended FSU. Morrison was part of the youth counterculture of the 1960s that rebelled against the establishment of the times. He did "party" a lot but was also a serious student. Jim read many books which is how the name of his band came out - an actual literary scholar at FSU who had gone into 1960s rock music and its lifestyle. That pattern is common at FSU - serious studies during the week and "partying" on weekends with that undergraduate scene. I moved back to my home state of AZ in 2017 but miss FL at times. Best wishes on the Nole journey. Morrison's music is very common in Vietnam war films. This video shows battle footage intermixed with anti-war protests of the era. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWqmZH95gJuhoMk

How did you like the program? I’m an incoming Mph student
@manuelsteele8030
@manuelsteele8030 Жыл бұрын
@@malcolmi.1660 The MPH is very robust at FSU. The program has really matured in recent years. When I was there, the MPH program was still trying to get accredited. But that was long ago in 2007-2008. They have since gotten accreditation. One thing that stands out 15 years later in my FSU education was the study of virology as it relates to biochemistry and genetics. The professor had us study bird flu with an emphasis on how the virus changes with genetic structure and synthesis via cell reproduction. Mutations arise and can make the flu stronger and more infectious. One guy in my study group was an African American who went onto earn an MD at FSU. Another was Muslim and went onto an MD as well. We came to the conclusion a flu virus would someday evolve that leads to a horrible pandemic. That was in 2006 in biochemistry II at FSU. Hence, in 2020 the COVID-19 pandemic broke out which is still ongoing. FSU does have a strong STEM program that includes the MPH research. Others go into biostatistics, epidemiology, public health management, etc. The demand for MPH is high now because of the pandemic. As for student interactions, I generally found the FSU graduate students to be inclusive. I attended some FSU MPH club activities and worked out a lot at the FSU Leach. I played a lot of basketball with undergraduates. Like with any large population, negative incidents can occur. I did experience racism a few times as an Apache (or ageism). But overall, the MPH experience was very positive.

I love the campus now but I could tell some bad parking stories from 30 years ago at FSU. Woodard used to go from Tennessee Street though campus and crossing the road was a challenge. I parked at the stadium and walked to Bellamy because there were no parking spaces on campus. There were no parking garages then, only parking lots with little parking. They will never provide enough parking.

On-campus there isn't too much crime that I have heard about publicly, and it is pretty safe to walk at night, but anything outside of the campus can be a little shady since it's surrounded by not the nicest of neighborhoods. I would definitely say to be safe, walk with friends, and just be cautious of where you walk, especially right outside of campus on Tennessee street.

I literally haven’t made a single friend since being at the school. 100% worsened my mental health, and if I had the choice I would go somewhere else. Can’t wait to transfer!

I have a few friends that are in CS and they say that its pretty great, just challenging, but anywhere you go it will be challenging just because of how difficult the subject is. Overall though it is pretty good from what I hear!

Good video: from someone who has been going to Tally for years and is a former graduate, my thoughts.... PROS: The campus is mostly compact and easy to get from one place to another. You can walk most anywhere in under 15 minutes. The dorms are above average for a college, most have been remodeled in the last ten years People are great, good mix of personalities, not a "stuck up" school like some others Has a party reputation (and yes there is plenty of that) but FSU is also the 19th-rated public university by Forbes Very good sports programs except....see below Massive amount of clubs and campus activities CONS: Agreed Parking always sucks. However, you really don't need a car here. Most kids leave them at home. The closest beach is about 40 minutes away but you do have the res to go to. Yes it can get cold for a month or two but no big deal, need a break from the heat. Small airport. Once a massive football power, we have fallen on hard times, but the Doak still rocks, and hopefully, the NOLES will come back SOON. Food choices near/on campus are ok, but the Union is finally opening again may elevate that.

I totally agree! a lot of the cons are easily avoidable, and FSU WILL BE A POWERHOUSE IN FOOTBALL AGAIN!! GO NOLES!!
