For me, it's the only option. Econet barely works in my area. My kit is arriving next week, and I'm looking forward to testing it out. By the way, I'm a Software Engineer, and I'm looking forward to seeing how Starlink will impact my workflow. I also live in the outskirts of Harare and I can still order meaning my area is not affected by the high demand issue. Hopefully, it'll translate to better speeds.

Thank you for sharing. I have a few questions regarding the use of the Starlink standard kit in relation to solar energy. Is it feasible to connect the Starlink standard kit to a solar power system? If so, what specific equipment would I need in terms of solar panels and batteries to ensure a reliable power supply? The other issue is I will be away from the resident where stralink is connencted and I’m looking for the best and most cost-effective way to maintain my internet connection with the Starlink kit. What setups or configurations have others found effective in such situations? Any insights or experiences you can share would be greatly appreciated!

There are very positive signs that they will soon launch in South Africa. In SA they will be obliged to build ground stations if they want to compete with 5g providers in SA thus meaning that it is likely to help Zim speeds as well.

@ettcha2 ай бұрын
They have GPS for tracking and they are paired to your account. Unless the thieves can log in as you, the hardware becomes useless once you report it as stolen to Starlink. So apart from Tracking and Disabling, everything else is on you the owner (insurance to cover theft or accidental/environmental damage) and whatever assistance you can get from police. You can also install the dish in a way that it's harder to steal, but the solutions I've seen are a bit expensive and are vehicle focused.

It’s so sad, what these giant tech companies are doing - ripping off poor countries. In the USA super speed internet costs $10 (or technically free - like you can just go into a library across the street and run your startup business with free Wi-Fi) starlink could never compete in developed countries at Zim prices. Soon they’ll be coming to dump EVs because the prices are not competitive overseas; using lithium batteries- which they get the raw material for “free - literally “ in your own country 😢 btw I can download 60G in a flash here
@Kingdomgiants38312 ай бұрын
It's not about "competition," it's about filling a void. Starlink is trying to make internet cheap and accessible for everyone by targeting remote areas with no internet so none of us (Zimbabweans) is being "ripped off. " Econet and Net1 have done us great damage already
