We have had 4 poodles, a black lab/golden mix (both parents AKC who had an unauthorized date), a chocolate lab/Visla mix, and 2 yellow labs in our 61 years of marriage. We recently adopted a "double-doodle" (father was golden retriever/poodle and mother was Lab/poodle). Our "Ellie" is, as you noted, the calmest, sweetest, most lovable dog we've ever been blessed with. At 81 & 83 (wife & I) years old, she's a blessing to us. She had her first camping trip with us this last week and was perfecty at home in this new environment.

We've had dogs (always 1 boy, 1 girl & both "fixed") for most of our 33 yrs of marriage. Now we have an F1B goldendoodle boy named Chester. We will never have another breed. He's the best dog we've ever had. Super affectionate, absolutely no aggression whatsoever. LOVES kids (we never had kids). Really good with strangers, amazing with any other dog. He's about as close to the perfect dog as we could ever imagine. He's 4 yrs old, we got him as a puppy. He even loves going to the groomers and the vets! Eternally happy boy.

As an owner of a 2 yr old golden doodle Bailey, I enjoyed hearing your discussion of the pros and cons and agree with much of your observations, Bailey is sweet, loving and needs to be close to us and loves to snuggle. One difference is that we have a pool, and Bailey does not want to swim, she'll go down 2 steps and sit in the water, but won't go in the pool. So yes she loves water, try to water your plants with a hose and she'll want to drink from the hose or chase the spray, but won't go in the pool with us. She doesn't know how to swim, and we've tried to teach her by holding her in the pool shallow end and push her towards the stairs, but that doesn't seem to work. We WISH she'd go into the pool with us. Anyways, thought I'd share that. thanx for your video. We LOVE our doodle.

I had one doodle that lived to 10 (cancer) that looked very much like your cream doodle...THE BEST dog in the world! So good that we knew we would never have another like her. Our current doodle is 4 and is crazier than anything...high energy, a barker (for sure) and a bit stubborn but we love her to pieces. She too eats anything and everything.. she doesn't carry toys like a soft-mouthed retriever, but DESTROYS every toy...except Bullymake toys and elk antlers! She has had Himalayan yak sticks but very expensive and she eats within a half hour at best. I don't like to fill her up on what I consider "treats". Bullymake makes toys for pitbulls..I know, I know. Funny. Your video is spot-on...all very true! Thanks! I'm now a subscriber and look forward to more! Take care. Nice family.

I live in Montana and my doodle gets "snow balls" attached when he runs around in the snow. To get the snow off, do not use a hair dryer. "Brush" them with a wire whisk, the same kind you use in the kitchen. It takes the balls of snow right off. Then the wet hair dries quickly with a little toweling.

I’ve had two golden doodles that I rescued one was seven years old and one was nine years old.Both owners passed. Their groomer promised their owner she’d make sure she’d find a good home. I’d lost my 3 dogs in one month due to natural causes years earlier and had taken me years to get over. I decided to try a different breed and came across Gabby. Said she had cancer. And she had a sister. That if I adopted Gabby could I please take Daisy. I was just getting divorced and moving onto 20 acres. Sure. I’ve never regretted adopting those incredible dogs. They went every where with me. I lost Gabby last October at 14 years old and her sister 15 year old on the Friday of the start Pandemic. They do become your best friends. I still cry everyday. I know someday tears will turn to smiles but there’s not 1 day I faint regret getting a GoldenDoodle. And when ready I’m getting second generation to train into a service dog. I have severe osteoarthritis which is disfigured the bones in my hands. I can’t think of a better dog than a golden doodle because they want to please you.

We just got an adorable golden doodle “ “Luna” who is now almost 4 mos old! She is a great dog but bites quite a bit.... out vet said she’s going through the puppy stage and it will stop however she gets to the point where she she really hurts and has made us bleed ...we tried giving her chew toys to deter her, removing ourselves from her, telling her no in a firm voice etc but nothing gets her to stop !
@TheNeuAdventure

We had the same problem with our Maggie! This sounds crazy, but we tried yelping(like one of the litter mates) when she would bite us. Also holding on to her mouth when she would bite us.(carefully not to get bit or to hurt her) eventually she quit! She’s 3 now and she is a great dog. They are just teething at that stage, just like a child. Good luck, I know it’s frustrating!

Mine did the same thing...those baby teeth felt and looked like shark teeth! I remember the day she shed her first tooth...the biting certainly brought blood many times (don't give up). She's 1 year and 4 months old today on the 19 of May. She doesn't bite me anymore because I was strict about that with me...but mouthing (not biting) with her teeth is her way of greeting everyone else! Driving me crazy! My Bella is an inside dog who loves the outside, but she doesn't want me out of her sight! That is also a good thing like you pointed out she's gonna stay close to me! The shedding is something she didn't start until about 10 months old but has slowed down...it's not hard to clean as I carry with me in my vehicle a lint brush which gets it up easy. She';s definitely my 24/7 pet and I'm loving every minute!

My golden doodle Maggie has done this as well since she was a puppy. As soon as she started biting I would put a net muzzle on her nose to wear for at least five minutes from an early age. She doesn’t like this at all, so when she shows signs of this behaviour now( she is almost three now) all I need to show her is the muzzle in my hand and she will run away from me and stop biting. I hope this helps with your problem. Otherwise she is the cutest, but for some reason she bites when she gets excited ,is what we think. They are full of energy these Doodles which is mostly a positive but has a bit of a negative to.

When you showed your dog standing there while you were eating I lOL-ed because Shasta does that. She doesn’t like her dog food and we’re on the third kind which she kinda eats but only a little at a time. She is a beautiful red color, doesn’t shed at all, doesn’t bark except when she’s being bossy, loves cuddles, and is so smart. My Ellie, which is a Goldendoodle (a F1bb, born 5-17-19, and has a wavy coat) she too is a chewer. What I've found that works is a VERY HARD plastic (I think it's plastic) bone that I bought at Fleet Farm store; Ellie really chews hard on it, but she has barely put a dent in it. She has now had this bone for over 6 months and it still is good. I've tried deer horns along with many other chew items. She loves the deer horns and they are VERY hard, but they don't last as long and they are very expensive. Ellie, is attached to my hip most of the time, she does shed but it isn't to bad and for some strange reason her hair is never on my clothes, I only find clumps of dust-bunny hair on the floor.

My only issue with him is he’s teething so he bites, gets on my furniture and jumps up although I don’t mind that he jumps up on me because I want to give h a hug when he does. First generations always shed some. Shedding is a dominant gene so that’s why it takes a couple generations to fully weed it out. Some F1Bs even shed some, still fully hypoallergenic but until they’re an F2B you’re going to have a crap shoot on that shedding happening or not

I bet your F1b takes more after some poodle characteristics! 😊 Most standard poodle don’t get their curls until they are older and half of the time their color lightens. For example, silver poodles are born black.

It funny hearing that your second generation is calmer than your first. We have the total opposite. Our f1 is way more calm and chill than our f1b. The f1b bounces all over the place and is highly excitable and more stubborn than our f1.

Beautiful babies! The bark box subscription for super chewers is great!! My brother has a doberman that chews up other toys really fast but the bark box toys last her for months. Our lab loves the red barn white bones (we find them on amazon) and they last for a year or so. We don’t get the ones filled with anything. (:

I have Aussiedoodle’s and they are chewers as well. I can’t tell you how much money I have spent on ‘indestructible’ chew toys to have them shredded within minutes! How do you get them to stop that puppy biting! She gets so excited all the time and starts to bite to the point that she’s made me bleed a few times and we have tried everything but nothing works! The vet said it’s puppy thing but now I’m getting concerned! She’s going on 4 mos! Also, when she runs she sometimes stops and coughs.... we had her checked and vet said all was ok?! Has your dog ever done that?

@@deniselayer802 I worried about mine when she was young..chewed and ate anything she could behind my back. The biting will slow down when the baby teeth are gone. My Dood learned "NO BITE" early on. Also, don't kid yourself, they are extremely smart, mine even has learned phrases like "spit it out" and obediently she does..although reluctantly with her sad eye expression..got to love them!

@denise layer The training method we used to get our puppies to stop biting quickly was to make a loud “yip” when they bit. That’s how they learn bite inhibition with their siblings. You might want to get a second opinion about the coughing. Have fun with your sweet puppy! 💜

I am looking for a small curly labradoodle or golden doodle. We raised two black labs for Guide Dogs for the Blind. The favorite toy for them is an apple juice bottle that bounces around and make a fun noise. Take the lid and ring off and replace it when it starts to get bitten edges. Basically every day. They played with those so joyfully it was fun to watch

I love your babies; we have a 15 month old Golden Doodle and a 12 year old Golden Retriever. The Golden never chewed up one toy. The doodle is quite the opposite. I had to put the toys away for fear of someone getting really sick so here is my suggestion. We have found one toy to date that is working. After several months it is still in tact. It is called "My Dog Toy". If you google them you will see all the toys available. We have tried the lobster and the toucan. They have held up amazingly but remember we don't have two in for the chew. They are expensive but I had to have something to trip over in the middle of the night and they just love them. Check them out; I have no affiliation they are just great toys. I do recommend that as the company states "cut off any threads as they appear" (only seems to happen at first). Aren't they all wonderful; thanks for sharing your kids. Sara

First let me say, thank you for this great video. We recently lost our beautiful Golden...Brady, and are now going to start looking for another puppy. We have had 2 Goldens, and were blessed. But we are 71 now, and am concerned with the high energy of a Golden, in addition to the shedding issue....sooooo, I am considering a " Doodle"...my husband not so much, because he feels they are in bred too much. Do you think that is true? How can we, when looking for a breeder, determine if this is the case with their puppies? Again, thanks for your info...also, my two Goldens loved, loved, loved those orange and blue rubber balls (the kind that you can use in that throw "thingy wand" and they would chew on them like they were bubble gum..they are pretty indestructible unlike like their 2nd live...the infamous tennis ball......their balls were always at their sides, even if they weren't chewing on them, Bailey, our first handsome boy also enjoyed chewing on marrow bones.,which were recommended by our trainer. Will definitely be following you guys..thanks again
@TheNeuAdventure
@TheNeuAdventure 4 жыл бұрын
So sorry that you lost your Golden, they are such sweet dogs. I would say that the doodles are much less inbred because you are crossing two totally different breeds. They can be hyper, however the second generation dogs seem much better about that. I would recommend taking your time when finding one. Go to visit multiple times with the Breeder and spend time with the pups. If they seem crazy as pups then they will probably be crazy adult dogs... Best of luck!
