The Maccabees were making up for having missed "Tabernacles" which is why it was eight days. I believe it says it had been three years since the last observance. Shalom!

Beautiful teaching. I have been deeply convicted not to celebrate Hanukkah and I have been praying very hard for His truth. This is a wonderful teaching that broke it down in a way that I personally couldn't deny. I think it's important to mention that the middle candle on the hanukkiah is called the shamash candle. shamash is the name of a pagan sun god 😢

Two years ago I discovered the name of the middle candle while playing a Hanukkah game. I couldn’t believe it!!! IT IS NAMED AFTER A PAGAN GOD. And they liked it to Yahshua the light of the world. In my family we haven’t celebrated Hanukkah ever since. Appointed feast and Purim only.

I had taught my family that it was the "helper candle" and represented the Holy Spirit 😭 I had to repent for teaching her all of this! I had to explain that I believed man and didn't do my research. I also felt conviction that if we tell people we are Torah Observant and then celebrate hannukah, birthdays and Purim, then we are giving others license to create their own holidays so we are sticking with Leviticus 23. Now my conscience is clear. We haven't celebrated birthdays in years. We were never drawn to Purim. I understand you and I am so happy that you wrote. Many people hold on to this no matter what. May YHWH bless you and keep you, shine His face upon you, show you His favor and grant you His peace 💕

So that in the day when almost all are destroyed he would have his chosen to create the world a new as it was meant to be from the beginning.
