I was 'only' driving the ball 210 yds with driver and it was making me crazy. I was constantly trying everything to add distance and nothing worked. I just kept hooking and slicing more and more and losing balls constantly. Then I just accepted I'm not going to be able to Boom it like other people do and instead focused on keeping it straight and smooth. Low and behold, my drives started creeping up to 240+... Amazing. The last round I played I tried to be as smooth and confidential as I could whilst being mindful of my setup for hitting up on the ball. Result? Only 1 fairway missed and easily 250+ every drive, even hit one 270. Thrilled. And when I finished the round my arms and back felt better than they ever had before. Less is more boyfriends!

I’m an athletics coach. A regular Joe asking to get faster at the track, would require better technique, coordination then at least a year of regular training. Most people can’t commit to this. Even at elite level, athletes rarely train at 100%. Yet I’m seeing the golf industry think they’re unique by recommending uncoordinated amateurs with poor technique, all sorts of tips and tricks. Get fit, strong, work on technique and you’ll get faster.

@@adrianl6811 timing goes to the root of club head speed which is the moment/instant that the SHAFT releases/unloads through the ball.....the shaft ultimately drives the club head through the ball (similar to a bullwhip action).....no room here to type and type to explain....that is the essence of club head speed(far exceeds speed of hands/arms of course....or turn of hips).....shaft flex,torque,kick-point,grip,etc ALL play a part... Thx Matty Boom-Boom. I used your “way of the playa” today for the first time for an entire 18 holes and had my lowest scores in months, a 94 on a 137 Slope course with the greens running 13.3 on the stimp. Only one lost ball and just two 3-putts. The ⅓ putting, ⅓ chipping, ⅓ range practice philosophy is paying off. No hero shots, a few lessons, and a track man session this week to learn my real distancia (I was one club off from what I thought I was hitting), all added up to a great round for me. Most importantly, you lowered my expectations of what amateurs can do and I feel totally better about my game and myself. Breaking 90 is around the corner!

I have a 48 " length driver I use to calibrate my timing. I use it as a training aid. It forces me to slow down and really feel what I am doing. After a few shots, I can get it going the right height, direction and distance. All of your body parts must function together and in order. I switch then to my 3W on a tee. It seems effortless to hit them straight and I get 225 to 235 IF I remain smooth and like you said not trying to act all overly strong and go as fast as I can. The only thought is smooth and easy. At my advanced age, I will live with that distance I am getting. You are SO RIGHT about penalty drives from the tee. Water, sand, out of bounds, woods, all are terrible. I do not carry a driver. It does not reward me in any way. I do hit 5W or 7W a LOT from the tee and that 3W when I can. I have a 16 handicap. Being a short hitter, I do practice mostly on the shorter clubs and putting. Those are my money shots. All of my irons I know my distances with a half shot. That alone is like having twice the number of irons. I spent 28yrs in the Army, infantry. I have trained a lot of soldiers. We have a saying, smooth is fast. We worked on drills with weapons to put them in action smoothly, zero mistakes. Once smooth is achieved, tiny increases in speed will naturally come. Smooth also allows the potential for accuracy (given all the fundamentals of shooting are correct, much like a golf swing). I love your videos. You motivate me to do better with my golf. My war against poor golf can only be won by winning the mental side of said war. (course management, high percentage shots, eliminating lost balls, etc.). THANKS!

I’ve recently refined my swing and am hitting more accurately off the tee. Incidentally, I also hit my longest in play drive ever (measured on the course, not counting driving range) at 318 yards. Being able to strike the ball more accurately will naturally increase distance for the reasons you said.

Desk jockey here but I also love cycling. I've found that cycling between rounds of golf (especially if you are clipped in to your pedals because you can engage the hamstrings on the up-stroke) is a primo way to stretch out the hamstrings and the quads and the calves. Also flushes out the fatigue build-up in the leg muscles. Just my anecdotal experience FWIW.

Tension in the swing is the real killer. Loose muscles transfer power better and lead to better contact. From what I’ve seen people that do speed training tend to train tension into the swing which is the exact opposite of what your goal should be

Is it worth spending loads of time on trying to add 20 yards or is better to hit hybrids and 6s into better dispersion rates and try and make your short game champion. When I played regularly I used to avg about 210m with driver, I never overswing. I remember my very rare 280+m drives for two things. They were smooth as cheesy easy peasy swings. Flush out of the middle and exquisitely compressed. A completely different feeling and never been able to recapture it, as I don't know what I did different. The second thing was, I didn't get the birdies

This advice is spot on. I drive around 240 on average. I played with a guy today who hit a couple drives over 300. Was consistently driving over 290. He had 247 on his second shot on a par 5, hit 3 wood to 35 ft. He 3 putted for par(I also made par on that hole.) In the end, I shot 82, he shot 87. Hitting longer is great. I would love to hit it longer. But I would never trade accuracy for distance.

Happens similar where I outdrive someone by 50 yards, I hit it on the green in 2 on the par 5 and they wedge it for their 3rd shot and also birdie. It's all about natural distance and supremo accuracy like a BAUS

Just broke 90 for the first time after seeing a pro for better technique with the driver (used to be my worst club hitting OB almost every shot). It’s crazy how much I improved. I did the same swaying as you and hit very down on the driver. But with a pro’s help, and with the rest of my game being solid from watching your videos and practicing, I wasn’t even happy about breaking 90. I had 21 putts on the back 9. I am not a playa with that. So now it’s time to Relisten to Dr Rotella 😂 Because now it’s time to break 80!!! Thanks for the videos playa!

Also funny story hit two 300 yard drives for the first time in my life right down the fairway. The first time I shanked a teethed sandwedge pin high off the green and got up and down for par. The second time I chunked my approach, chipped over the green, had a horrible chip on, and then 3 putted. Short game is king still lol

Yep, I have reeeaaaaallllll slow swing speed (top out at 73mph with an 18 degree hybrid), I hope to bring that up to the hi 70s but my only real chance of gaining significant distance is to bump up my smash factor. Which means just somehow getting super-efficient at squaring the clubface at impact and finding the club-ball combo that will maximize ball speed with an acceptable amount of spin for the short game. Easy peasy, yeah? 😅
